Okay, a little bit of a rant here, but I fly around doing patrol missions to get those SP to make the next rank when what do I see, moving out to intercept a far out contact a blue marker shows up on my minimap, another player just orbiting the instance while I do the hard work.
So I did an experiment, I took a patrol mission, entered a DSE, flew way out, waited and then watched as a number of enemy squadrons was destroyed. This really peeves me off, shouldn't there be a different way of doing DSE's so leeches can't level without doing the work?
A semi solution the devs can make is that you have to score a hit on an enemy for it to count.
But oh the complaints that will follow that.
Yeah. No changing the size of letters there.
Aye, that is pretty much all they can do is just to do the no points unless you hit something mechanic, but even that can be abused by simply doing one shot on something then sitting after you have moved out of range.
They would have to get into things such as how much dmg should one do and are all ships at that level with crappy gear able to even do that much and so forth.
I get what is going on in the OP, but it may be a lot more trouble to fix than meets the aye so to speak.
BTW I noticed the thread title was edited, sorry if it was a little OTT:o
Can't they just use a kill counter instead, how many ships make a squadron - kill that amount and mission done.
And yes I am abit dense when it comes to making games, I'm just a critic cus I can't do much else:rolleyes: lol
And if in a team then a team kill count could be used, at least that way if it's just power leveling a noob or lower down rank and not a third party leech.
I don't see what the big deal with leechers are anyway.
Because really, they do not impact your own gameplay that much.
1.) If there are too many leechers in an instance more ofthen than not you can switch instance.
2.) They are not helping, but 9 times out of 10 the people who leech often cannot be arsed to do anything in the first place, as such they would not even bother being there if they actually had to do something.
Which means you would not get the benefit of their presence anyway.

At first I was thinking vote to kick, then I thought about well what if you are in a situation where it is just you and the other person, that wouldn't work.
Then I thought about how blizzard has a way to flag a player afk in battleground matches and after so many minutes if that person does not engage in combat they get booted.
Suppose after 5 stacks of a afk debuff flag the other person just gets removed from the mission area.
It is not a complete answer to leeching, even Blizzard has not been able to completely remove that from their game either, but it may be effective in this game just the same, but who knows.
You would still constantly have to monitor the other person just the same anyways for the same reason just dealing dmg to an enemy would not fix the issue entirely.
If most lower level players weren't so afraid to come across +22 level enemies in their low level DSEs there would be a lot less leeches. As long as the Admirals keep coming to the lower level DSEs to show off you are going to have to just deal with it.

OP I feel your pain.
They exist in PvP too, where they most certainly do impact gameplay. Apparently this is getting addressed later this season.
They also exist in Fleet Actions. but hey, it just makes it more likely I'll get first.
They are annoying in getting a free ride. Remember after STO launched, I confronted some moochers and they started saying things were well worthy of rule violations.
Hopefully the planned DSE changes will get rid of them once and for all.

So because I'm VA I"m not allowed to get the defend Sirius accolades?
That's actually kind'a a sore point for me right now. I was quite rudely asked to leave an instance the other day because I entered the game solo as VA.
guess what, me leaving won't reset the current level mobs
Personally I don't mind a VA showing up, gets the mission done quicker.... which is almost ironic considering who the OP is:rolleyes:
That's very refreshing to read Dane. It makes me feel better about the community anyways. I just hope you keep that in mind when you unwittingly enter a DSE instance with VA level mobs.

I hit light speed and make a hasty exit lol.
Also, A VA or higher rank showing up is good in a way, gives me a glimpse of my future ship in action and shows me abilities that otherwise I would not have known about at that point, one example would be a VA who warped in and hit me with a... I can't remember the name.... argh. A blue beam that healed my hull up really quickly... this is embarrassing
Anyhoo I have had my ship saved a few times by the higher ups.

Me too and vice versa.
When my main was a Lt. Cdr. I remember getting surprised warped into a DSE where I believe it was a Captain was having trouble with a Gorn Flagship flotilla. I of course ended up in the middle of it and was able to draw fire, and heal the other player's ship while he helped me pick them off.
We both got pretty close to destruction a few times, but we got every single one of them. We wound up staying in the DSE and he helped me finish the mission objectives. Twas a fun day
I generally don't mind higher ranking players in the DSEs as they help me get through the mission quicker, or can make it fun by teaming with me, or helping me out if I get into trouble.
When Im working on accolades or feel a particular race needs my vegeance, I generally try to group up with whoever is in the DSE and set my level to them, and pass on all the loot. I'm just there to have fun, and help out if possible.
But yeah, to the OP, it happens everywhere, INCLUDING pug groups for the STFs of all places...
Try to look at it this way, odds are you went into the DSE not expecting help anyways, try to pretend they arent there. At least they can't steal your loot if they don't shoot stuff.
The Devs are aware of it, and are looking at solutions. Not too sure if the DSE's still do it, but move away from the zone in point, The DSE's will spawn Flagship groups that gravitate towards the entry point then blow up whoever is sitting there. Just fly to the farside of the DSE and fight the NPC's away from the entrance.

Not fare though. I get blown up after being gang ***** and someone just watched, components down the drain lol.

It's sad but a gamewide reality.
Lol, I like doing a DSE when a VA shows up, it causes the NPC's to level up and then the VA "saves the day"

No need to get all indignant about it.

theys till around huh? A well leechers there are troublesome, but od not prevent you from completing it, leacher in pvp on the other hand...

When in a DSE, the other people are usually just blips on the scanners to me. If they want to participate, fine. If they don't, fine.
