Game Time Pricetags.... wtf x 2

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
i'll give you 3 links here:

( german Amazon, just look at the pricetags )

STO Game Time Card (60 days) = 21,98€

Champions Online Game Time Card (60 days) = 4,99€

Star Trek Online - Silver Edition (incl. 30 free days) = 7,96€

i am a little confused....

why is it cheaper to buy the full game 2 times then one game time card?
and why can i get 8 Months CO for the price of 2 Months STO?

For that price... why even make CO "freemium" (F2P + Premium = Freemium ;P )?

I'd imagine the store is trying to unload their CO timecards before the game goes F2P next month.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. I've posted many times in the CO going F2P thread. I'm quite familiar with it and also a supporter of the idea. That has no bearing on my answer here. The fact that I know CO is using a Hybrid F2P model doesn't mean the person at Amazon.de does, nor has any real clue about MMOs in general. For all they might know F2P simply means F2P and that would make their timecards useless in Jan.

Just a note for STO players, you get 400 Cryptic points for every month you sub to Champions after it goes Free to Play. It might be a bargain worth considering if you run across cheap Champions timecards.

Shoot, go to Amazon, I read the game proper (with a 30 day license) was only $4 USD. Buy about ten copies and profit for nearly a year.

5 Euroes for 800 Cryptic points is a good deal cheaper than just buying them. About 50% off, as amazon most likely already included VAT in the price. Might be worth considering.

    Just a quick note:

The C-points you get for being a subscriber to Champions will not be usable outside Champions. Points you purchase yourself can be used in either game however.

This is the cheapest way to sub. When I saw CO could be bought for 99p at one point on Amazon, I felt a little gutted that I had bought a lifetime sub.

Ah. Well, I'm glad that you clarified that, at least, before we all rushed off and spent a fortune on it. Honestly, I like Champions but that does diminish my chances of going out and grabbing a lifetime next year, which was something I'd have considered had the C-Points been usable in both games.

In any case, for people who plan to play Champions, there are still plenty of good reasons to subscribe. I'll probably piddle around as a "Silver", Free to Play member over there myself and spend the occasional odd C-Points left over on my account there. If you plan to play Champs, a good deal on time cards is a good deal. The added features from subbing are exciting and the C-Point allowance would give you just about unlimited access to the cosmetic perks over there if you're serious about it.

So I wouldn't discount the idea of buying up cheap timecards. Free to Play doesn't make gametime over there completely worthless IF you plan to play Champions seriously. (And, honestly, I do think C-Points over there spend farther than C-Points in STO. You can get some really dramatic, really stylized, very original designs that totally make over your character for the same price as a much less dramatic uniform or race here. And they stack in more interesting ways; I can see some cool costumes you could make there that mix and match 5-6 different costume packs whereas STO's uniforms and races don't mix and match as easily since we have fewer customizable slots per costume at once.)

Pity that restriction is on there but I'm glad Stormshade clarified that promptly at least.

Awwww... and here I thought my double STO+CO LTS was going to be an added blessing in disguise, after losing my MU exclusivity.

Shame that, might have actually sold more CO LTSs! :D

Eh, maybe they'll make a "Cryptic LTS" when NWNO hits, and some cross-game bonuses can be had.

I have 5 people lined up to buy the LT because of Stipend love for STo use...I'll just pretend you never said anything...

Because really... how many people have LT subs to both and is it worth losing hundreds of people's LT sub money for Champs to limit that?

That kinda sucks for those who have an LTS in both games. And, no, I don't have one in CO. I was actually kinda hoping that they would be interchangeable, too.

Cereal? I bought a LTS for CO *flail* Hell I was an advocate for the return of the LTS sale on the CO boards. There was never anything mentioned about the points being CO C-store only. I buy C-store points in CO or STO I can use them in either game O.o

It's the same process in DDO and LotRO. And it's not like people are really lined up to buy a $300.00 LTS to a F2P game just to get what amounts to $5.00 worth of free CPs each month. :)

Serious cereal. We're talking like Fiber One here, not Trix silly rabbit. :p (Note: This is merely a joke and is not meant to say that you or your concerns are silly Capulet, though you most likely understand that. Clarification is in case anyone else missed it.)

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this before in that gigantic thread up top. However, I wanted to say so again. The games are separate, and we feel that CO customers needed, and deserve that stipend of points for their loyalty to Champions continuing past the free to play conversion. However, we also think that the reward for subscribing to CO should be spent enjoying CO to your fullest.

I still think the LTS sub for CO is an incredible deal. There's going to be more stuff in the C-store there once the conversion goes live, and the team there is planning a very aggressive roll out of new content in the form of new Adventure Packs. I maintain that being a LTS for CO will save you quite a bit of money in the future.

However, we don't want you to buy a LTS for CO just so you can have Cryptic Points in this game. If you're going to put down that kind of investment, we want you to do so because you enjoy Champions, and hope to continue to play it for years to come. Not so you can have perks in another game we also make.

    Thanks,

    Stormshade

Very well said doggie. No animosity from me on this, just a popped balloon. The idea of having a bit of an influx of C-store points was the last bit of a push to get me to scrap for extra cash quicker. I do enjoy CO very much.

*eyes STO community* But I so <3 STO too. :D Both are great games, and yes the LTS sale right before the launch of FTP was a very smart move.

Ok, i;m spent. *jumps on a paint*

    HOME JEEVES!

But I played CO. It doesn't measure up to the quality and quantity of content in this game. I don't enjoy playing Co anymore, I haven't since STO beta launched.

But I invested in it in faith of the Company of Cryptic not that one game in particular...so this stipend will sit and accumulate with no use in some random Champions vault until the end of time because I'm never on there because I wanna play this game.

it's frustrating because I bought the game that is the red-headed stepchild of Cryptic. The game (god bless the devs over there) isn't anywhere near where it should be a year after launch especially compared to the massive strides made by STO. Either because a lack of money or manpower or both directed at it.

I mean they're making adventure packs that are just the same thing with new skins...Goto UNTIL Goto this place Goto 5 different linear dungeons and defeat the boss and activate or deactivate item... then beat big boss in final linear dungeon.

It's, seriously, literally the same design with different skins...why would I wanna play that when I have sto innovating and improving month after month? Just because I have unused points there doesn't mean I'll play.

As for that last part, does this mean STO is going F2P and that all STO C-Store items are gonna be handed out to everyone? Because if you have people willing to give you lots of money for a game they may never touch...that seems like just good business and doesn't really hurt anyone. So unless you're gonna start giving everything away I don't understand why you'd not want people's money.

They get their C-Points, you get there money, everyone's happy. It's just buying C-Points on a different transaction scale really...especially since they can play the game for free...they might as well just buy C-Points every months and a half or so that can be used for both games rather than bother subbing to CO...

If someone told me a year+ ago that the LTers would get a stipend that wouldn't be any good for STO but they could play the game for free (and pretty much exactly how they're playing it now) I'd have not bought the LT knowing what I know now and instead bought non-segregated C-Points with that 300 bucks.

I am in exactly the same position as you and agree with all of the points you made. Wish I had skipped CO (which still is lacking content and is a complete joke compared to STO) and bought a LTS for STO instead.
