Gift of a lifetime

Is it possible to purchase a lifetime subscription for someone else? I cannot find the option but freely admit I can be dense and over look things a bit.

Thanks.

I dont think so, because you have to be logged on to the account to do it. The only way I could think of doing it would be to create an account, buy a LT sub, and then give that account to the person you want. Of course, if they already have an account and character they might not want to start over. I would recommend contacting Cryptic about the issue. I'm sure they would be more than happy to take your money :p

You could just ask for the person to log in and you could buy it for them. Of course that would spoil the surprise (if you want it to be a real surprise that is :P). Otherwise you might have to see if a dev posts here with a possible fix.

I wouldn't do the above myself but if you do, be sure to replace the card on file to his/her card once the transaction for the sub goes through. Otherwise, you may end up buying the entire C-Store as well. Not that the OPs recipient would do this, but there are probably plenty of posterior headwear types who would.

You could always get yourself a keylogger and snake their info like that. Once you have it, log in and buy the lifetime. Though, that could technically be illegal and you would have to inform them that they need to change their info after you remove the keylogger.

Have you tried contacting Cryptic about it? Companies generally aren't against taking your money. :D Say "Here's $300.00, make account @xxxxxx a lifetime sub, please."

You definitely should contact billing about it. They will very likely take your money and help you out. :)

I do want it to be somewhat of a surprise, so some of the ideas wont work. I will contact Cryptic customer service and see what they can do for me.

Thanks to everyone for taking a moment to help me out. :)

I have actually done something similar and only ran into one road block; just make sure the person registers the gift card in their name (online or over the phone) because it will automatically decline because the billing name/ address will not match up. :)

Cryptic Won't Accept Gift Cards (Visa/MC) but you can add these to a Pay-Pal account and then use them to buy whatever on the Cryptic Site. Of course it would need to be a few bucks over, because exact amount transfers don't seem to work.

I know this, because I went through the issue with support, who suggested the add Credit Card to Pay_Pal option.

Hmm. The Cards I use (Vanilla Visa) don't register to a Name. I've registered each one I have used and they never give the option to enter your name.

I bought a Lifetime Membership for my father's 60th B-Day back in February. I bought it the weekend it was on-sale, just before the game started. He already had a STO account (I had bought him the Collector's Ed. of the game for Christmas and he'd played in Beta).

I made up a Word document that looked like a fancy Certificate (think Diploma) that said something like "This Entitles Dad to ST LTS - Happy B-Day" - and wrapped that in a box. He got it two weeks before his B-Day so he could start playing on Day One.

He logged on his account, I put in my CC on his account and made the purchase, then removed the card. The "Surprise" came when we handed him the box and he got to unwrap that. Needless to say he was very happy :D

Granted, I know and trust my Dad, and wasn't worried that he saw my CC info.

I think the card I tried to use was amex. not sure if visa gift cards are available in canada, on account of some obscure idiotic law that is endemic to canuckistan. also, there was a thing with expirey dates, and some other necessary data that wasn't on the card. as for paypal, tried that with the same card aand same result. wouldn't work. emailed paypal about it but never heard back

I know Canadian credit gift cards don't work but have no clue why and I wouldn't be surprised if this also applies to all other countries other than the United States. Even the subscription cards here in Canada have become hard to find. Most GameStop's don't carry them anymore. The ability to gift subscriptions and C-Points (or specific C-Store items) really does need to be added.

just looked at EBs site and no STO time cards. I hope that's not the case with the stores themselves cuz as of 28.12.10 my current card expires, and after that no more sStar Trek and then i'll really be :mad::mad::mad:/4

EB is owned by GameStop so unfortunately, that is the case. A few friends of mine have had trouble getting time cards and basically were forced to use their credit cards for subscriptions instead.

Cryptic does accept gift cards, I recently gave a gift to a friend that way. However the card did not work for him until he went online and registered the card to his name under the option "register card so it works with online transactions" :p (Ok, so the option isn't called that, it's only called register card, but you get the idea :))
