Wait, Captain Data?

Now correct me if I am wrong but Data was destroyed on the Scimitar during Nemesis. How can he be captain of the Enterprise-E? I think I am missing something or somebody really screwed up on the time-line logs.

you need to read the comic countdown.

they did some upgrades to B4 and data's memories that he downloaded began to resurface.

The soft canon from the Countdown comic for the last ST movie has been incorporated into STO's soft canon timeline. If you read the Path to 2409 on the main website you'll probably find many interesting tidbits about a lot of things. :)

Data's "memories", personality, subroutines, whatever you want to call them took over B4, so he essentially became Data.

2385: "Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge requests a long-term leave of absence from Starfleet to work on personal projects, including a plan to build and test his own starship designs. But his first project is to assist the team at the Soong Foundation studying the Soong-type android B-4. With his help, on Stardate 62762.91 the team unlocks what it calls the “Data matrix,” successfully accessing the personality, knowledge and memories of Data, who had downloaded this information into B-4 before his destruction in the Battle of Bassen Rift.

The Data persona asserts itself over B-4’s more primitive programming, and the android is able to assist the Soong Foundation team to upgrade the positronic brain and recreate the emotion chip invented by Dr. Noonien Soong. The team is confident that their work will be completed in months."

2386: "A surprise guest at the wedding of Worf and Grilka is Data. With his upgrades at the Soong Foundation complete, Data requests that his commission in Starfleet be reactivated. While there are some initial questions because the Data persona is in the body once used by B-4, after Jean-Luc Picard, William T. Riker and several other current and former members of the Enterprise crew testify on Data's behalf, Starfleet Command agrees to reinstate Data. He is promoted to captain and assigned to supervise the completion of the Enterprise-E's refit.

On Stardate 63894.06, the refit of the Enterprise-E is completed and the ship, helmed by Captain Data, leaves the Utopia Planitia shipyards. "We are introducing a new era of exploration and peace," said Starfleet Command spokesperson Commander Marie Durant."

you need to read the comic countdown.

they did some upgrades to B4 and data's memories that he downloaded began to resurface.

They removed B4 entirely from that body and placed his program in storage on a holodeck, then took the backup Data made of himself before dying in Nemesis and overwrote B4's brain with it.

Little more complicated than that and a moral dilemma story in there but basically B4 is now a hologram somewhere and a backup of Data, made just pre-death, is running around in B4's body.

He came back to fight the Undine and then fought Nero just before Nero and Spock disappeared. He's been commanding the Enterprise for a bit over 20 years.

A little of topic... but with the holographic technology in the 25th century, would Captain Data have a Photonic Spot?

Even further off topic, speaking of B-4's hologram being stored in a holodeck somewhere, would it be maybe possible that in STO there would be a mission involving the "Self-aware" Moriarty getting loose, or is/has he had any part in Star Trek canon since Captain Picard trapped him?

I actually did an outline for a Foundry mission involving the PCs having to deal with the Moriarty program taking over a ship while being moved - after Moriarty learned he was memory module.

B4 is kinda like Mccoy at the end of Wrath of Khan, holding the 'spirit' of Spock. Cept in this case...its more like a clone of Spock holding..um..the spirit of Spock, which returns to being Spock.

    Oh nevermind.

Thank god they didn't follow up Star Trek: Nemesis with Star Trek: The Search For Data

    You *are* wrong.

Before Star Trek (2009) came out the prequel comic series Star Trek Countdown was distributed for 4 months. Within this series, it was first revealed that Geordi was able to unlock Data's memories inside B4, and B4 became Data within this process. Although this body is more simplistic, it is still Data.

And if you pay attention to The Path to 2409 or just the load screens it talks about how Data was reborn, and allowed to continue to work for Starfleet.

After Ambassador Picard left the Enterprise E, Data was his replacement.

Oh and if you read Countdown, you'll know understand and notice the hint of STO (uniforms, bridge, etc) within the comic.

The STO tie-in novel is where they established that B-4's program was relocated to a holodeck to make room for Data's restored program in the body.

This is also mentioned in the STO tie-in novel 'The Needs of the Few'

One of the interludes between chapters was about "the holographic entity" Moriarity being denied by a Federation court for his petition to be released. And several of the chapters in the book are about "synthetic lifeforms" rights and how they will change in the upcoming century.

It wasn't quite a relocation. They have a sub-quantum scan of B4 so they would make a hologram copy of him.

    NOVEL SPOILERS

B-4 removed himself from him body in order for his brother Data to live. Data was wriing a program to remove himself from B-4 so B-4 could exists w/o Data's programming crowding out B-4's.
