What happened to all the little updates and additions that were talked about before? Such as, Poker, Wildlife, Ship interior functionality, "more minigames", Gorn updates, and things like that? All the updates we hear about coming are HUGE grandiose plans for changing big aspects of the game. And it seems everything else has been put on hold... I am far more excited about Poker (When ever it get's here) than Ground combat overhaul.
I mean really, they were talking about poker since before season two. It was in the "If not in Season two, than soon after" category, and it's past season three. And the Gorn Updates? AWESOME, more excited about that too... I would love to know what the "More minigames" encompassed, in that engineering report. (Klin zha!!:D)
While we are on the subject of "What happen to..." What ever happened to seasons X.1 and X.2? Are we still going to get those?
whilst all the update they have done have been great, it is a little annoying when they say something is coming 'soon' then gets put on the back burner because of another idea. i feel this is one of the drawbacks of them telling us their plans and ideas a little too soon.
although that seems to be changing. things like the big memory alpha update and the borg and crafting loot almost came out of nowhere, so i think they have learnt their lesson but that still does not tell us when all these other things the had planned are due.
there was meant to be a ship interior mini games that was almost ready, and some other diplomatic missions types (like first contact) and other bits and pieces that seem to have been pushed back and and have gone into an unknown time frame.
im hoping that they will add bits here and there throughout season 3 and the start of 4. hopefully the new engineering report should give us a much better idea.
i think the problem here is similar to the "chair sitting" tech..
most of the things mentioned were "hey, we're gonna look at making this happen!" comments, like the mini-games and stuff... but if there's an issue with making it work with the engine then it'll get pushed to one side while someone crunches the numbers to work out how to do it..
on a personal note, i take what DStahl says in forum posts as "this is what the boss would like" and take whats listed in the engineering reports as "this is what the devs are working on", as there's often quite a difference in the two!
I suspect they'll all make their way in eventually..

bear in mind the "sitting tech" was in "discussion" for like 6 months XD
Gorn and Poker were in "Season 2.X" in the july 16th one. "More Minigames" and Animal life on planets was in Sep 15ths. And "More minigames" was again stated in Oct 19ths. Animal life was also again stated in April and Mays. As for the Ship interior thing, I believe I was mistaken. So everything EXCEPT that one was mentioned.

Not to sound flippant, but what happened can be summed up in two words:
The Foundry
Way back when it was just the 'Secret Project they couldn't talk about" the Devs said some things currently on the schedule would need to be rearranged; and once the plans for the Foundry were revealed, everything you're talking about was on the list of on hold until The Foundry is up and running (and hay, I too was looking forward to Antropology Missions - which was what the other tier prior to the current First Contact missions that are in); as the Devs working on those things were put on the STO Foundry project.
If you haven't tried it (as it's still only availble on Tribble as it continues to be tested and tweaked), the first iteration of the Foundry is a fairly robust player mission creation tool - and they plan to add a lot more functionality to it. So, it's not that they forgot, or just sat around - they went to work on The Foundry.
Not to whine but whilst the craftable sets and Foundry are not even on Holodeck, sitting in chairs tech being half completed, no clue as to when the Gorn updates are coming out and the crafting update being nothing what i imagined (from a purely personal perspective)...
I am kind of disappointed with Season 3.
That said i have no doubt a huge amount of work has been put into all of this but it's left me miffed.
Oh yes. I particularly WTFed at Mission Replay, since it had been delayed due to sidekicking and leveling issues...
But then it turns out it's just a list to invoke the mission as a Secondary without getting shared from someone else. Big deal. They simply gave up on making them scale to provide anything but a dull curbstomp.

I kind of liked the mission replay and how they implemented it. Gives me a chance to visit some of the pretty planets.
I'd like to know what happen to Dstahl. He usually posts several times a day but I haven't seen a post from in since the 11th. I think Craig offed him because of the joke Dstahl made last week.

My beef is that they pushed it back at least a whole season and when it finally came out it the only thing it added was the ability to grab already-played missions solo instead of from another player. There was talk of replay missions level-scaling and such, and supposedly the reason it was pushed back at least once was sidekicking issues with that. So apparently they chose to delay and give up instead of just give up on schedule. *shrug*
As far as I know, Poker, Ship interior functionality, more minigames and Gorn asthetic updates are all still in the works. In fact, the Gorn updates are supposed to arrive shortly into season 3, which is the last I heard...
I know that ship interiors were put on hold, because they want to allow us customization of our own interiors via the Foundry, as well as fleet starbases etc. Poker has something to do with fully implementing the chair sitting mechanic we see in our Captain's chair, so thats a ways off..
As for ship interior functionality, I have a feeling we'll see a boost in that dept. with the new crew system slated for S4. And I can't wait for that
although that seems to be changing. things like the big memory alpha update and the borg and crafting loot almost came out of nowhere, so i think they have learnt their lesson but that still does not tell us when all these other things the had planned are due.
Out of nowhere? Not really... We were informed that physical appearance altering equipment sets were in the works immediately after Season 2 launched, and the Memory Alpha update has been promised since early Season 1. In fact, I remember the disappointment when S2 finally arrived - with zero new items for R&D.

So, he's still around. I have a feeling that everyone's nose is to the gindstone as (aside from Stormshade the STO CR); general Dev posts are down across the board meaning they are all busy with other tasks and aren't getting a lot of breaks to post on the Forums (although given teh above DStahl is reading here and there.
With people wanting The Foundry on Holodeck, and the "Server Not Responding" issue on map transfers; it's likely a lot of coding is being done. As for DStahl - It could mean they're getting the prelim schedule for season 4 worked out; and a new Engeneering Report might be on the horizon.
In response to the earlier questions about more mini-games coming, Cryptic hired ThomastheCat who did the layout as a community member for the scanning mini-game. He had a ton of other layouts and ideas for mini-games which is stickyed in the discussion thread I think. So I am thinking now that he is on the West Coast working for Cryptic, this will happen very soon

What?? They HIRED him?? Awesome! He had great ideas.
Yeah, that's what I thought too. Check it out about half way down the page where he mocks his own ideas haha. He has a couple more posts later on in the thread I think also, but no spoilers...

Personally I think the ability to beam down and visit planets should not bet tied to a mission.
The same goes for just entering a system period.

More mini-games are something we'll get to eventually, and the Gorn Customization shouldn't be too far off. Hang in there!
Thanks,
Stormshade
Aye aye Stormy... Hang in there I shall... o7

I think that was a great move on Cryptic's part. It also says to me that they are serious about adding mini-games in a quality way.
Except they didn't actually hire him to work on STO, they hired him in marketing, so that says to me... well, exactly the opposite.
As far as 'hanging in there', I really don't have much of a choice...
They did mention (not sure where) something about him and the UI. I think it may have been in the latest Ask Cryptic.
Around? Oh really? A mere hour after your post, he says this:
Stormshade lies!
...But only through his teeth and only when necessary.....
