Questions about dealing with Borg... and stuff.

I've been doing a lot of Borg encounters lately and I've had some questions I thought I would pose here. On a separate note did everyone in the game forget that the keyboard can be used for communication in addition to ship functions?

Question 1... & 2 & 3 really
When dealing with Borg Spheres they seem to hit me with something that puts all my abilities on a cool down timer. What is this ability? Is it SNB? A while ago SNB was a real problem in PVP with scenarios where a player could be chain disabled for 16 seconds at a time, did they ever add any counter this ability?

Question 4
Borg Cubes like to tractor beam me and then pretty much insta-kill my shields. I know there are several ways to counter a tractor beam such Attack Pattern Omega & Polarize Hull etc. Is there ANYTHING that will help to counter the instant shield drain or anything that helps restore the shields once disabled? I have tried Science Teams 1, Emergency Power to Shields etc to no avail.

Question 5
Sometimes the Borg hit me with something that disables my engines. Emergency Power to Engines seems pretty hit or miss for fixing it. Hazard Emitters also SOMETIMES appears to clear it. Any other advice?

Question 6
In the past if your ship was cloaked you could use abilities that repaired your hull but not your shields. It seems now that most Hull repair abilities appear unavailable when cloaked as well. Hazard Emitters were not available but someone told me that Engineering Teams were. When I picked up the skill however I found it was not available during cloak either. So far the only thing I have found is Miracle Worker. Is there anything else that works while cloaked?

I've tried asking these questions casually in game but lately it feels like getting people to even say hello is like pulling teeth. I'm not blaming anyone and I am willing to admit that it might just be isolated to my experiences but the feel of the game since I have returned. It could just be nostalgia on my part but I always liked the perceived camaraderie of trekkies.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

For your points 1,2,and 3. Its not an SNB attack. So it cant be countered by Science Team. Its a special Borg attack that works similar to engineer boarding shuttles. The Borg just beam into your ship and mess with your systems causing all the odd cool down timers.

There really isn't much of a defense. But folks seem to agree Tac Team and points spent in that skill seem to help..a bit.

If you ever say hello to me, I will be happy to say hello back and discuss experiences etc. I have found that finding people to talk to can be a little difficult too - it does happen occasionally though.

With regards to fighting cubes, it just seems you have to wait it out. There seems to be very little in the way of effective counters to what they dish out. I fine evasive maneuvers can be very useful when they start ganging up.

Borg boarding party. It's a pain. Supposedly tac team is the counter, but it doesn't really work in my experience. The shield drain can be countered by hazard emitters a bit.

not sure about the attack that stops your engines. The only thing I've encountered that does that is tractor beam.

You own heals don't work while cloaked. However, other on your team can heal your hull if you are cloaked.

My first thought was to apply things from canon so I thought perhaps rotate shield frequencies would at least buy you some time. Its just weird though because after they drain your shields it seems like there is nothing you can do to bring them back up. Emergency Power to Shields usually does nothing at all or gives me a tiny red sliver in each shield and Science Teams appear to have affect at all. Sometimes if I use RSP and have some shielding it will give it a small boost but its iffy.

I would say we are affected with some kind of debuff but nothing shows up and no abilities seem to clear it. I guess if I were to venture a suggestion it would be that we are to fall under this "magic effect" it would be nice to have some indicator to at least know we are screwed while were being screwed.

In general I don't mind the Borg encounters. The offer a nice story line that both sides can participate in. That being said I sometimes can't help but to feel like it comes down to a simple matter of brute force against brute force with winner being decided by who brought the most shields / hull to the fight. Sometimes I feel like the developers intended the Cubes to be a team fight, but other times it seems like they appear as a more one on one encounter. I don't personally mind the idea of the Cubes not being solo'able, I would just like some consistency.

RSP for the shield strip. It was better with the old 15 second timer but it's still better than nothing. Just don't pop it until the shields have drained.

Polarize is good since it frees you from the tractor and gives the hull an extra dab of resistance. If you stay tractored they pound you with big plasma torps.

Any of the hull heals and resists ofcourse.

There currently is no counter to the borg boarding party. Tac team does not clear it, at best it only mitigates some of the affect, and it is debatable if it does anything at all. The only preventative is kill them, before they kill you.

Borg shield neutralizer is going to take your shields, save your shield powers for when they are fully drained. RSP and spamming balance shields helps if you are under direct fire. If you aren't solo, try to manage your aggro, don't get too close the borg as part of their aggro is distance based. If you are pulling too much aggro, put some distance between you and them to let team mates take some heat.

The spheres and cubes like the tractor beam, so keep an attack pattern omega, or polarize hull ready. Their tractors are pretty strong, so don't expect to over power them with evasive or engine batteries.

Cloaked skills are pretty limited to buffing your next attack, and even some of those are not available in cloak. If you play klingon there is the new enhanced battle cloak on LG level B'rel that would let you fire those skills off and become briefly visible. Otherwise, just stay cloaked and enjoy the crew based hull repair, or pop your hull skills as soon as you uncloak and alpha strike.

Most areas of the game don't lend themselves well to communication. Players usually have too much going on piloting their ship to type out a lot of stuff. Social areas like ESD seem full of people with nothing better to do than stand around talking though. With fleet chat, team chat, and a serverwide channel my klingon fleet uses, I tend to miss most zone chat traffic.

The borg shield neutralizer can easily be countered by using hazard emitters right after they put it on you.

for the tractor, I just sit there and pound torps into their hulls. But use pol hull, or attack pattern omega if you don't wanna do that.

For the boarding party, your're sol. Op crappy move.

In my experience Tactical Team does not help, that's just my experience, others may vary.

For the engines, I know it's not a perfect solution, but find yourself an engine with thrusters, 25% is better than 0% if you need to turn, and with Evasive, you could get lucky and get out of range.
