:)

ok so checking up on whats coming for STO. drum roll.. we have

  • Exploration revamp
  • Ground Combat revamp
  • Ship/crew revamp
  • Open PVP sectors

Exploration and open PVP are going to be a bit further into 2011, but I bet we'll see both hit tribble before 2011 is out. We'll get lots of time to test and give feedback on both. This makes me very excited for Star Trek online for 2011.

Closer and coming soon dare I say we have the ship/crew revamp to involve more the redshirts on your ship and what they are doing and how they contribute to the running of your ship or lack there of if you don't feed them properly :)

And ground combat revamp, the dictionary tells me that revamp - to patch up or renovate; repair or restore.
I guess by this, if the devs really mean to revamp we will see some significant changes, all the bad stuff gone, the good stuff better and more good stuff added. Like, currently my main beef with ground combat is the fact that enemies run up to you point blank with ranged weapons to fire in your face, and in the end its like a boxing match, trading laser punches.

Ground combat is kinda good, it just needs that special revamp to make it truly fun.

Open PVP sectors, again STO has good and safe areas from gankers and great pve content already. Adding a sector way off from the normal space routes where people have the CHOICE to go or not to go, does not affect the perceived carebears and does not intefere or diminish their game. The pvpers can have their play ground. While I enjoy PVP and hardcore, I also enjoy being able to PVE, and not be ganked as well. So just because I like hardcore territory PVP doesn't mean I want to be able to gank people, because that's just TRIBBLE, no fun in griefing people. Thats why it seems eve online is a anti socialite paradise, I could never find fun in randomly ganking people and destroying their hard work.

In the pvp end game on the other hand, where you choose to enter that dangerous sector, that's where the fun is and Ill be facing other hard core pvpers.

So I hope cryptic develop a meaningful open sector pvp and not just random pvp encounters in space, because really that is there already with Queues.

So to sum it up STO 2.0!

Exploration
gound combat
pvp end game
ship crew revamp

awesome stuff go cryptic go stahl.

Also a free trial extended to certain other areas of the game might be helpful guys. When those features are done let's have a welcome back weekend and rope in old players, and get new players alike.

I don't think the demo shows off enough about the game, you need to let people get hooked, let them play for one week see how far they get, only a 24 hour daily grinder could do admiral in one week, most won't get so far, but you will hook way more people than a limited demo.

thanks for reading! I know I am cryptics most vocal critic on these forums, alot of you know me for my infractions eheheh( but they know I mean well) but I really want this game to succeed, and I have faith in the direction the team is taking the game! Long live Dstahl and his team! Don't forget the team!

We also have an expected Romulan Faction coming out sometime in 2011. Dstahl said it would probably be released in "waves" rather then all at one time. Based on his "with a year" comment we can probably expect to see the first wave start to roll out around Season 6 (late fall/early winter) of next year.

finishing the klingons would be faction specific, the features listed in the OP are for everyone in the game, and for all future factions.

These are features in the game currently in a less then stellar state and need addressing. Before faction specific content. Plus the Foundry is coming, you know the star trek community will create excellent stuff. I am a mission writer myself and have partnered with a technical Foundry writer to help me realize these missions. I promise to do some klingon ones.

Open pvp please please don't do this please dont make pvp the main focus in the game i beg you, leave it as something to do in the game but not one of the main parts of it, Pvp adds nothing to the story or and does not give anything new to the game, I know people like it but to be completely honest PVP will not save this game and wasting time on it now when there are far more deserving things. play with pvp when everything is working better.

also how can the romulans be coming out the fed and klingons are not even close to being finished yet.

Bring out another faction now would only confuse cryptic on where they should fouces there efforts. and the effort need to be some more stuff for fed and lots, lots and lots more for the klingons.

Feds are mostly there but there needs to be enought missions to level klingons all the way like feds. They need to address the issues like bugs and content along with a lot more stuff to do at highier levels/ end game.

You worry too much. :) The concept of Open PvP in general has nothing to do with focus (I am quite sure that Cryptic would keep a firm barrier between PvP/PvPvE-players and PvE-only players - if anything, Open PvP would just add an alternate way of playing the game). And depending on how it would be implemented I do believe it would add to the story.

1- Who said anything about PVP being the main focus lol? An open pvp sector (or revamping Eta Eridani to make it an Open PVP zone) is NOT going to make the game into a PVP priority game. Its just a special zone for those of us who like to team up and play together against others, or to do something else besides redoing dailies when reaching VA.

2- Romulans would be added very late into 2011, or probably (and more likely, given how the Foundry has been in testing for a while before rolling out) some beta that would launch with season 6, and later be added to the main server in early 2012.

So they still have season 4,5 and probably 6 to finish adding content for Klingons (not to mention the fact that the Foundry will add infinite amounts of missions you could do to lvl your Klingon up, and that there will be many more Weekly series to come -which are for both factions-).

If people bother, enough of them get reviewed quickly and fairly enough (lol), and if the devs toss the singularly stupid daily diminishing returns, then maybe.

And I'm not holding my breath on the revamps.

uh how would PVP in a far off sector affect you doing missions in your common mission places? One doesn't affect the other, its not wild wild west, shoot anyone anywhere in the game you know. It's certain places, where you DONT have to go, unless you want to engage in pvp.

It could even be the same Sector, just "split off" as its own instance. This is one area where Cryptic's extreme instancing would come in handy, in essentially allowing "PvP copies" of all existing maps to exist simultaneously with the current PvE versions.

Just a thought, of course. I have no idea what plans they have. Personally, I'm hoping for some sort of "neutral warzone sector".
