Foundry question

Does anyone know how long the Foundry is going to just remain on the test server and when it'll be transferred over to the main server?

Cryptic hasn't said yet. I'm sure when they're ready to move it to live there will be a big announcement. :)

There is no scheduled date. According to the Devs, it will remain on Tribble until its "ready". From my personal testing experience, I think the current mechanics are pretty good and really wont be improved that much. The only thing most people are wanting at this point is more options, more abilities to do this and that. But as far as it actually working like its supposed to, I havent encountered any major bugs since the most recent update.

I hope it's soon, what I like is how it was mentioned in the Genesis update, and yet, much like the Gorn customization stuff, it's not actually there.

What most people dont seem to "get" is that Season 3(aka Genesis) lasts UNTIL Season 4. The Devs never said the Foundry would go live on the first day of Season 3, they just said it would go live IN Season 3.

That's just great, for all we know, it could take the rest of the year for that stuff to get added in.

"The rest of the year" is only 16 days.

Have the Devs indicated what is being worked on exactly to allow The Foundry to go live? Are there specific issues with it?

In fact they said there was all the likelihood that the Foundry wouldn't drop until a month or so after the initial drop of Season 3. I would say this is born out by the feedback that is coming down the Foundry forum. I still have crash bugs when I'm using it, lemme tell you deleting a map then deleting objects that were on that map,
the editor don't like that so much :)

Okay, it could take all of next year. Happy?

No, it couldnt. Season 4 will come out around the 2Q of next year, and the Foundry will be on holodeck before that.

No, they havent. I can only assume they want to make sure the basic mechanics work well. Although as I said, I personally dont think theres much more that can be done than polish at this point.

Yeah, we'll see, cause quite frankly, I've reached the end of my main Federation deal, and unless they plan on adding some more weekly missions in, I'm at a loss of what to do.

They do. They have stated that we'll see the next 2 featured series before Season 4. And if I were you, I would copy my character over to Tribble and start testing the Foundry. There are nearly 200 missions already made, and its pretty fun seeing what you can make yourself too.

I thought the Tribble server was only for testing stuff, is it just open to anybody?

It is for testing, but it is also open to anyone that wants to test. Just sign up and then copy your character over:

    http://www.startrekonline.com/test-shard-signup

    http://www.startrekonline.com/test-shard/character-transfer

PS: And although it says that your character will be available within the next 2 hours after you do the copy, I have always found that mine were available instantly.

Also, even though more people are using Tribble (due to the Foundry) - the Tribble server has NOWHERE NEAR the player load of Holodeck/Live. My point? Even when the Foundry IS actiivated on Holodeck (and it will still be in a 'beta' state on Holodeck for some time); expect to see some 'settling in' issues and tweaks to get it functional on Holodeck under the larger processing load.

We still have a ways to go before the Foundry will be available and working well on the Holodeck/Live server.

While that is true, that is no different than any other update that is tested on Tribble first.

Interesting, I'm going to finish Assimilation and then try to log onto the deal. I copied my main Fed character over....I think and well once I'm done with this mission, I'll give it a try.

True, we haven't even really seen a stress test on any major scale, I wonder if they % of players that participate on the test servers is like the % of players who participate in the forums.

I think you'll be impressed with what you see. However, just as a heads up, I would recommend watching these vids to familiarize yourself with the Foundry:

But if you just want to play some missions, here is the big list:

Yeah, I just want to give the custom missions a go. I sure hope there's Klingon centric missions as well due to the fact that they haven't added anything new to the KDF side yet with the Genesis update.

Probably even less. The reason is because unless you read the forums, you really have no idea whats going on on the test server. And everyone who reads the forums doesnt even use Tribble, so there you go.

There are. In fact, only your faction's missions will show up on the character your playing. But here is a thread dedicated to just KDF missions:

Wrong. While there was very little new mission content in season 3. But what was added ALL went to the KDF. The Sortie missions are for KDF only, and the feds have no equal. Meaning the KDF side has a slight advantage in acquirable emblems per day.

The ONLY fed mission is the new Deferi ground mission, and its a mission that the KDF can also do.

So can we please FINALLY stop with all the KDF whining. They are gaining parody with each publish and the cries of unfair are starting to sound more and more hollow.

No, I will not stop until there are more KDF PvE missions, it's just ridiculous how bare the KDF side is compared to the Federation side.

Though I agree the content disparity is still sad, nothing is accomplished by continuing to cry about it as this point. The cause of the problem was decisions made pre-launch. HOwever, the Devs have shown they are working on it, and have made good progress. As long as they continue to do so, thats really the best we can ask for.

    No doubt.

Lets take a tally of the things the KDF are lacking.

More uniform and casual options...Check. We can all agree it is seriously lacking here.

More ship types and customization...Check. While the new ship types helped, this is one area in need of equality.

Klingon version of Diplomacy...Check. This is a no brainer. If the feds have side branch of advancement the KDF should as well.

And finally. PVE mission equality.....???? With the foundry on our doorsteps, this is a major issue? The feds have about 30 more PVE missions then the KDF. Thats it. Its not like the feds have a massive overwhelming number of missions that they can pick and choose. The feds still have to grind a few levels in the clusters or DSE's. Even they don't have enough missions to play them souly from start to VA.

And when you compare missions, it gets even better. While the KDF has fewer, its nearly universally agreed they are much more entertaining and well done then even some of the best of the fed missions. And lets be fair, a large number of fed mission are garbage. Hunting the hunters anyone? The long night? the one with Rikers clone?

So the feds have more PVE missions. A hand full more if we only count the quality ones. And we have the foundry knocking on the door. With more missions on test right now then all the Fed and KDF missions put together. And the sticking point that has the OP blue in the face is PVE mission parody? Please

The KDF still needs some work. Ships, clothing, and customization options being the biggies. PVE mission equality is one thing that going to be solved very soon for everyone Klink and fed. Its the smallest thing to be upset about.

I'm sorry, but I think you have the wrong strategy. First of all, the Foundry isnt a replacement for official content. But even if it was, belittling the issue isnt contstructive. That said, neither is continuing to complain about that is in the process of being fixed. People simply need to realize that while there is a content disparity, the Devs are working on it. Good progress has been made, and will continue to be made. Thats really all there is to it.

True, the foundry is not a replacement. It has limits, XP rewards are set by mission design and not adjustable. With much tuning still to go, its yet to be seen if leveling on foundry missions alone is viable. And foundry missions lack loot rewards, adding to this complication.

However, I dont see the devs adding much in the way of new general PVE missions anytime soon. For either side. Sure we will still get the "weeklies" and there is talk of new STFs. And im sure there will be a few more klingon type Pi Canis raid missions as new sectors are opened to them. But beyond those 3 areas I dont see much for the future, for either side, on new mission content.

So I dont see how its strictly a KDF issue. Its the foundry or nothing or wait for the weeklies.
