Order of the Bat'leth

I made this thread because I have a simple question, but I also want to give klingons the opportunity to discuss melee weapons. Isn't it time for customized Bat'leths? Time for Mekleths, Painsticks and D'ktahgs? Correct me if I'm wrong but these are not available to klingon characters yet, while NPC's use them all the time. What about a sword of Kahless replica as a KDF reward?
This is all coming from someone who only plays the fed side.

Klingon Melee Weapons 1
Klingon Melee Weapons 2

Now to my question. I've noticed that the 2 klingon vendors on DS9 no longer sell Bat'leths. Why is that? I'm sure I'll find one on the exchange, I just loved that little klingon shop.

I agree with everything except the Sword of Kahless repilca. That's already in game and the best bat'leth around even though the animations aren't optimal.

Well the Kahless sword is already ingame.

I would like to see though, is the both Romulan honor daggers and Andorian dueling picks (the ones from Enterprise). A type of unfoldable katana or sword for fed players, like what Sulu had in the last movie would be pretty awesome.

I'm all up for customizable Batleths and would love to see that. However there should be some really different stuff in there, and they would also have to be able to show up visibly in battle.

No thanks, besides that's Paramount's property not CBS.

I am all for the Katana, it is easily one of the most recognizable swords of our time (and can be argued the best), however I am just as open to rapiers, broadswords, claymores, Jians etc.

I would really like to see a mix in melee weapons, however until the work out their Ground game improvements, I don't see that they will add something that could be changed in a couple of months.

I posted this is a previous thread thread about targs. My proposal includes bat'leths as well as targs.

I feel the best way to implement this is by adding Targ handling and bat'leth mastery to the skills tree on Klingon side. By placing 9 points in one you unlock the ability to use a Targ handler or bat'leth kit. As well as unlocking a sword master or targ handler title. These kits would come with special attacks specially desinged for either attacking with a targ or our bat'leth. Adding this in the skills tree would ensure that you will really wana concider your choice in what direction you prefer.

The bat'leth and targ are major areas in Klingon lore and culture. Fighting with nothing but a bat'leth is something to make any Klingon's eye widen and I feel would add a lot of depth to the Klingon side.

A few things that you could add to this as well is allow players who have 9 points in targ handling to be able to breed a special targ only targ handlers can use. And for 9 points in bat'leth mastery. Would open up a special craftable bat'leth that only bat'leth masters can use.

Also once you unlock these areas it could open up a solo only quest that delves into the history of each of these areas.

I don't include the Feds on this as adding something similar doesn't seem to fit them very well.. I don't ever see them using attack pets. Perhaps sword mastery could work for the Feds but not on the same level it would for the Klingons. Attack pets and bat'leths are part if thier culture and history. If anyone has an idea for the Feds please share.

Well I meant a large variety of swords like that, that can flip open. It doesn't have to be exactly like the one from the new one but it could be similar. Sort of like the wreckage that mysteriously looks like the JJprise.

I'm all for improved Bat'leth action because I very much enjoy using it with my Klingon.

However, I really urge caution when applying melee in a setting where guns are prevalent. The saying goes you don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Otherwise, it looks this hilarious.

I have been thinking about this as well. Where are the player-usable mekleths and d'k tahg? We were told we would get them a long time ago.

Also, in keeping with the lore and canon, both the mek'leth and the d'k tahg should come in both the single-wield and dual-wield variety (like the disruptor pistols) -- even if the dual-wield would do basically the same damage as a single-wield. Or give us a single-handed d'k tahg and dual-wield "generic daggers". At least give us the option, if only for cosmetics.

There's a lot of variety when it comes to Klingon bladed weapons, including the Klingon long sword seen on the shows (in Worf's quarters on the Enterprise-D, iirc) and included with one of the old-school Worf action figures.

As for the "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" argument, well, that's always true. What could address that is to give an option to have a melee-only match for the Klingon-vs-Klingon ground arenas.

Maybe give a variation of a "Back stab" that is only usable (or just better if used) during Stealth, as part of a tactical kit. In that case, if it's going to be a "skill" then just make a Daqtagh appear in the hand (like the Tricorder) when you use the "back stab" or "Front stab" skill. At least then I would at least feel like I had a Daqtagh, instead of feeling the absence of one -- the way a Fed player can "feel" like they have a tricorder (by pressing V) even though they really don't have to equip it, etc.

Great post Deyvid, thank you. More melee weapons will make for distinctive klingon ground combat, wich makes ground combat apealing in a new way. And yes dual wield should be introduced as well.

With good melee weapons you can easily overpower a phasering fed, but it can also be more challenging. I wonder how the gameplay will be I you get into a fight with a full melee away team

Here is a link to a KDF weapons guild. Really good examples of the different cultural weapons.

As to the discussion of folding blade technology. I doubt that CBS owns the exclusive rights to the concept and Cryptic should be free to design thier own version.
