I think some of the development team (at least whomever is responsible for making ship parts and such) is/are looking forward to the new "Tron: Legacy" movie quite a bit. C:

Personally i'd rather we got light cycle turn rates
Forgive my ignorance, can someone school me on what this is? I'm not familiar with "Aegis" in Star Trek. Are these new ships coming or a new technology add on for ships? Thanks.

there's no canon basis that i can think of, aside from the borg tech additions in voyager, but not aegis specifically.
Basically all these aegis and borg additions are is impulse engines/shields/deflector dishes/universal consoles that, unlike all the rest, grant visual additions on top of their stats.

They're a new add-on for ships. Gear from crafting and STFs will modify your ship's look. The appearance change is more intense for each piece you add and can be disabled piece by piece.
The Aegis are the name of an alien race that employed Gary Seven from The Original Series but I don't believe there's a connection between them and this gear, which is just supposed to be a new, experimental crafted set of gear for STO. The word "aegis" basically just means "armor".
Tried the sets on Tribble and they are amazing , i hope they add many more differant sets as well , maybe even add a new ship texture (maybe mirror ships finish) if you complete every single fleet action twice, that sort of thing.

I was thinking of the various things they could do.
I'd love it if they did a dreadnaught set that recycles your chosen nacelle as a third nacelle. It would save them from having to redo every class as a dreadnaught (and one glance at the Enterprise contest and the forums suggests there are people who'd want dreadnaught variants for almost every class).
It would also rock if they did an "Ablative" or "Endgame" set to make any ship into one with passive ablative armor ala Voyager in "Endgame".
Would also a dig a "Miracle Worker" set that replaces your nacelles with TOS Connie style nacelles, tacks a TOS deflector on your ship and has blue phasers as part of it.
Awhile back, Gozer was talking about Klingons capturing Starfleet vessels as a counterpart to Feds getting KDF exchange BOs. People were saying they'd rather cannibalize Fed tech onto their BoP than fly a Fed ship. I kinda think Klingons should get to raid Utopia Planetia for stolen fed designs and these should be level independent, scaling sets that give them kitbashed Intrepid, Defiant, Nebula, and Excelsior parts for their BoP, y'know, obviously lifted nacelles, Fed parts tacked onto Klingon ships as trophies, with Ablative Armor, Cloak, Tachyon Detection, and Transwarp powers as the set bonus.
Maybe have the counterpart be Feds getting to raid Mirror ships for the same basic abilities. Only instead of cobbled on trophy parts, we'd get Terran Empire recolors.

Excellent! That makes sense, thanks for the detailed explanation.

It'd be really cool if they added more sets like the ones being tested, or even further parts to existing sets. Anyone ever been curious what a ship would look like with Undine tech, for example?
Also, I bet the ships with the Aegis set have light cycle racing in the holodeck. XD
One thing I've found handy with the new sets is that, like personal armor and kits, you can disable the visuals by right clicking on them. Say you have the Aegis set with the borg console. Those borg parts take away from the sharp and clean look of the Aegis set and can be hidden.

Always taught they were bugged warp nacelles shields.
EDIT: I somehow missed that Chat said tron up there... I redact my humorous quip....

The borg sci console w/ aegis gear looks kinda cool

What's even better is that the Federation ships display blue glow while the KDF ships display red. It made my day. XD

I didn't notice that at first. It is somewhat silly looking.
