Alright, so I played this game for a few weeks at launch. Sadly I was dissapointed at how rushed and unfinished it was and I quit playing. However, I did keep tabs on the game, waiting for it to grow into something playable. Now, I'm looking to get back into it.
Currently I am downloading 3,025MB of update data, while browsing the site for all the new stuff. One thing I noticed though, under "My Characters" it says that I have none. Do characters get deleted after a certain time of inactivity? Because I had a Federation Human Male and a KDF Cardassian Male. The human I can remake easy, but it was tough to get all the little details right on the Cardassian.

The Captain's Database is not a very accurate tool, honestly.
If you find your characters are missing, I will make you a Cardassian template and e-mail the file to you if you want. Put it in your screenshots folder and you'll be able to load it as a saved costume.
Play the episodes, they are amazingly fun. When done, cancel and wait a month. Reactivate for a day, play the new episodes, realize there's nothing left to do because there's zero socialization, cancel, reactivate in a month, repeat.
...realize there's nothing left to do because there's zero socialization...
Yeah, I've noticed that. Everyone just does their own thing 99% of the time. The few times I have tried talking to people during encounters or at Earth Spacedock, I get no response. The only time I've ever had a true conversation with anyone is in Zone chat. But that is no different from a chatroom.
I'm sure joining a fleet would help with that, but the last thing I want is some RA following me around making everything easy mode.

Joining a fleet does not mean you are forced to play with them, especially if you want to enjoy the game content. Any fleet that forces you to play the regular game content with them is well worth quiting! There are plenty of missions (STF's come to mind) that you cannot do on your own so fleet friends are the best for grouping with.
It is true that you can play this game on your own but the real fun is when you group up with a few good fleet members. MMO's are meant to be played with others. But its your game and your character so you can do whatever you wish. Most of all have fun!
Welcome back to STO! Yes, the new sector space is lightyears (heh) beyond the old representation, and we do have many different things to do in the game since launch.
The Foundry is right around the corner, which will provide a HUGE boost in enjoyable episodes and missions. Also, exploration redesign, a new crew system, and a big ground combat makeover are all in the works to be a part of Season 4. Lots of exciting new features on the horizon.

QFT. No fleet should ever force you to team up all the time, and if they do, you're in the wrong fleet.

P.S.
"What Lies Beneath" is the greatest of all STO.
Ya know, your avatar is misleading....your cheery in that picture......but your words confuse me.........
And I would like to play more with other players. Doing everything solo makes it get boring quick. The thing is, is that I would rather strike up a mild RP convo randomly, than fly around and shoot stuff with someone. The combat is already too easy (yes I know about the difficulty settings, but until they fix ground that isn't really an option) and adding more than one ship = breezing through enemies like they aren't even there.

Agreed, you will likely love this mission! Enjoy!
