WHICH Uniform would you like to see as the default for NPCs?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I saw that the majority of people did seem to favor more consistency among NPCs in my other thread, although there were differences as to which uniform they'd prefer.

So assuming all NPCs (again, not player characters, NPCs) had a single, defined uniform for Star Trek Online, what would you pick?

I started a survey to tabulate results at the link below for easy counting. Included are pictures of uniforms A01-05, B01-05, First Contact, Timeless, and All Good Things.

B-01, preferably with division colored stripe and blue-gray shoulders, but the Voyager look you presented is fine, too. Really anything but the rest of the B-set. The A-set is serviceable, but B-01 beats them all.

I thought this would be a more interesting question and more open to dialogue, with visual representations of what we're talking about.

Got four responses already. I'll share the results in a couple of days. Is it handy to have visual references?

I voted for B03, as that's my own personal favorite, though most any of the A- or B- sequence uniforms would be fine with me. Honestly, in this instance I tend to agree with Cavilier's statement -- just leave the NPC uniform system as it is. I really don't see any benefit in changing it -- waste of resources, IMO.

Captians Choice. If I am wearing DS9 uniform - then so should everybody else. If I am wearing 'The Motion Picture' - then so should everybody else. It is all point of view anyways, everybody allready has the various uniforms on their end anyways, so how hard is it for everybody to share the same uniform that I have? 'Cides I got edited clothing and am all alone on my ship with it, would love for my crew to share my wardrobe.

Agreed. It should be the Captain's choice.

Agreed. It should be the Captain's choice.

When he talks about NPCs, he doesnt mean on your ship. He means NPCS on ESD and elsewhere.

Also, I voted B01 as its an obvious step forward from the previous uniforms seen in DS9/VOY and the Last few movies including the TNG cast.

If I could Id vote for A05 second, because I use that as an "Away Team" Uniform...with my own twist...Chest being Red, Shoulders Black, And the stripe under the shoulders is grey.

Its definitely not all right how they are now. Its a mess. They use all 10 types, and I am pretty sure whoever made them just hit random.

Just wander around Memory alpha and look at all the different uniforms. Some wearing kits. That Ferengi officer to the right of Romaine (up the ramp) is wearing a white uniform....why? And Romaine wears her kit in the middle of a planetside base deep in the heart of the federation.

I voted for B1, but I would be fine with officers wearing it in either configuration, either as seen in the survey, or like my main crew does:

Probably not with the AGT badge, though it does look fine. It goes good with a skirt, too.

Could do with an alternate to the leather texture, though.

The only "A" uniform I like is the one the default officers wear - it would be fine for an enlisted uniform maybe.

One of these three without a doubt:

Exactly as seen above, 6th from the left colours for the blue/yellow as well. The goal is to make a uniform look, while being modern and still being Trek-like

Selection is TRIBBLE and there is no "none" option. Bad poll.

I vote skirts and go-go boots. Fits the Miranda all the way to T5 mentality.

Something along these lines would be fine for me.

I could stand to lighten the division color a block or two, I suppose, and my teammate missed a design opportunity in leaving his textured stripe black, but pretty much anything like those and I'd be golden.

The badge is purely a personal choice. I love the look but hate the silver chevron. Gold on brass looks so much better.

Seconded. The NPCs are background clutter, white noise on the radio. And they really don't need to be elevated any measure beyond that.

How much time do you all spend in space dock anyhow? Most of my game, i'm either in my ship on an away mission. Heck with our own officers controlling the sector blocks we see even less of the generic NPCs. This whole thing is really a non-deal and hardly worth all this hand wringing.

I am in the belief that all game NPC's (those seen on ESD, DS9, during missions) should have the same uniform, then players can put their own uniform onto both bridge officers (like now), and set a ship uniform, for all those random crew members.

To begin with, I liked the idea of choice, but slowly as time has gone on I have slowly returned my crew to being Trek like, only using canon races, using B-01 uniforms. Where as I put a little more uniqueness in my own Character, to make him stand out.

B-01, it is certainly the closest to trek, and they could use multiple variations, like the department colour as the primary with the black on top for onboard ships (like TNG), while stations use the opposite way around with black as the main colour and the department colour along the top.

"First Contact" - the TNG: Film/Movie uniforms as also seen in Voyager, similar to DS9. That would be my personal choice.

Agreed. It should be the Captain's choice.

I definitely agree with this as well. Whether it is implemented with just a dropdown box or based on what my character is wearing. I'd like to see the uniforms I want the NPC's wearing, not the mess of inconsistancy that there is.

The only problem with the "Captain's Choice" option is that it may not be possible. The server tells my client how to render each player character I see on my screen. I would think that the NPCs are handled in the same manner. What some of you propose just may not be possible with out a change to the architecture of the game, which could be significant.

I like the one they use now.

Though B-1 (the one closest to the "Countdown" uniform) would be cool too.

I voted for B-1, but I also would have voted for an "Anything but Star Trek: Old Folks Home uniforms" choice as well.

The NPCs should wear whatever costume the Captain (PC) is wearing.
If I switch from my TOS uniform to my WOK threads, the NPCs should automatically switch as well.
Having the crew wander around wearing two different styles of uniform (NG and DS9) in "Star Trek: Generations" made my eyes hurt.
