Terran Empire as faction?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So far two factions exist and what I've heard on STOked, there are plans for more.

What I'd really like to see:
- Romulans (a timeless classic)
- Dominion
- AND THE TERRAN EMPIRE :)

The Terran Empire would be great for me, I am a huge fan of the sleeveless and the goatee. But I'm not sure it would work out so well for everyone. It's like a human version of the Klingon Empire. Maybe way down the road... but not the next faction.

I don't see it offering enough distinctive content to justify splitting player-time on it.

Romulans are an easy choice; they're part of the trio of powers that have been established in all three shows. The Dominion makes sense as a mulit-racial Empire whose location in the Gamma Quadrant opens up a lot of sector space for all factions to explore...

The Terran Empire? Too similar to the Federation. To be honest I'd rather they weren't roaming around the Alpha Quadrant either.

I'd really love to see more of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. We get one glimpse of them in a mission.

I'd love to know what happened to Regent Worf. A part of me would dig it if he ditched the Alliance after the power balance shifted and joined the Terran Empire, as an opposite to our Worf who sided with the Klingons..

No thanks. What would be the difference between Federation and Terran Empire? The only difference would be theme. No thanks.

Not really. Since they are more warrior-based, their ships would be stronger, more heavily armed, the objectives, of course are different, meaning they should have traits to reflect that (something like "Stubborn" vs "Teamwork" as an initial trait.)

But Romulans and Cardassians 1st before the T.E.

While I am not against the idea of being able to have a race/mission group as the Mirror Universe, there are a few issues I have with it. The first most being that I would rather see more of the factions in the 'prime' universe get fleshed out and playable before something like the MU is explored. Additionally there is the thorny issue of the MU costumes. I suppose the easiest way to get around this would be to make the MU a 'pay to play' set. The question then becomes do you set it so that if you have already purchased the MU outfits can you have a discounted access to the race, or do you have to pay again? There are a number of other issues that I can forsee involving interaction with MU player chars and all. Sufise to say for the time being I think we should get the races of the Alpha quadrant, then the Beta going. Then we can consider Gamma/Delta/MU :)

Terran Empire would probably be the easiest faction to include, because all the ships etc. would be recycled Federation shiips. However, I think they would rank pretty low when it comes to new factions. I personally would like to see the Dominion, but I think every poll pretty much shows the Romulans as the most desired with the Cardassians second behind them. The Hirogen could probably be lumped with the Romulans just as the Gorn, etc. were with the Klingons.

I think Cryptic has also said that they've thrown around ideas involving the Delta Quadrant, though I don't know if they've ever confirmed that there will ever be content that takes the player there or not. If there is, then that might open up potential for the Borg and Kazon as factions. Though I think a lot of people have been against the idea of playable Borg, and the Kazon probably wouldn't be too popular.

At any rate, if more factions are included I think we'll definitely see Romulans and Cardassians. Anything beyond that I'm not sure. After those, should Cryptic decide to go as far as to add a fifth faction, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for the Dominion. :)

I'm not too interested in seeing the Mirror Universe as others have pointed out that all of their assets are pretty much recycled Federation assets. I mean they could do PvP in Federation zones similar to house battles by having Federation vs. Terran Empire battles. Such that if a Federation player wanted to PvP against other Federation players, he could enter an instance where four players would automatically be assigned to the Federation while the other four would be assigned to the Terran Empire - their ships might get an altered decal scheme to denote the Terran affiliation or something - and the two would fight. Then once the Terran players left the instance they would simply revert back to being their Federation character.

But as far as a full blown faction with its own starting area, etc. I think the Terran Empire would make for a boring faction.

I made a thread with a new idea for a Human Rebel Faction, like the Bounty Hunters of Star wars. This idea is based on an alignment system, If you do too many bad deeds, or not enough good ones you can get kicked out of star fleet, and join the Rebel Faction. The Rebel Faction has its own sector of space, and can use any ships or weapons of all other factions.

    Check it out.

People are forgetting we don't have the Terran Empire in the game at the moment, it's the Terran Federation. I'd rather Cryptic just redid the whole thing so that it's not Feds with purple warp nacelles but a faction with their own ships etc. It was bad enough when somehow they stole the plans for the Defiant in DS9 (had the Federation not heard of even the most basic security?) but now they fly around with ALL Starfleet's ships, as if Starfleet didn't learn from their terrible security procedures the first time.

Romulans are an easy choice, with playable races: Romulan, Reman, Hirogen, Alien, anything else?
The True way could be a playable faction, with the Terran Empire races as choosables, alongside Cardassians, Jem' Hadar, Son'a (It makes sense, after all, where are the Jemmies getting their "white"?), and Alien.
The Dominion itself (not the renegades) with: Founders, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, Losi, Those other wierd looking guys (I forget their names), Wadi, and alien.
The Borg, with any of the assimilated races.

Eventually, I would also like to see the Vidians as a Federation ally (they're cured by the think tank now, so why not put their medical technology to humanitarian uses?), and the Kazon as a Klingon Ally (or subjigates). We got the Hirogen, so why not these other two Delta Quadrant Races? After all, the feddies have Transwarp power now, right? Getting to Delta wouldn't be too hard.
