sector space 'things'

quote from dstahl in the release notes
When you fly close to a major star system, you will notice it get slowly larger as you approach and planets will become visible. An information panel can also be toggled on or off to display some data about the location.
See something interesting in the distance? Fly up to it and see what's there! We think you'll find some nice surprises out there.

has anyone found any of these interesting things while flying around? if so what?

would be nice if space was far and vast and you could point your ship in any direction and just fly and get to somewhere unknown, be the first to see it/explore and also be intrigued or filled with suspense as you encounter stuff.

The "interesting things" in the distance? Are star systems. Stahl is discussing the new star system animations here. I think you're misreading the quote.

Not to mention briar patch / badlands effect.

i believe they mean general nebula effects (badlands is amazing when you fly into it) and other things like there is an actual terrordome in gamma orionis, the starfleet symbol over wolf 359 etc etc.

i dont think they have added anything that was not already there, just made it look all shiny.

    cant be

he said directly when you fly to a system that you will notice it get larger and planets become visible.

    then he says

"see something interesting in the distance?"

"Fly up to it and see what's there! We think you'll find some nice surprises out there."

there cant be anything interesting about flying up to planets which get bigger, he already mentioned that they do up front, so no "surprise" there.

also it seems you can see them like maybe an anomaly in the distance,, and fly up to it to investigate.
which is where the surprise is. I don't think he means graphic effects as surprises, he means some stuff they must have placed on it.

some clarification from him would be nice.

Or reading too much into it, to be more precise.

Cryptic would have us destroy 4 squadrons of space ponies as an "exploration" mission. :)

    it'd be 5.

    its always 5...

Personally i think its the nebula effects/trading ships deal.. there's a fair bit happening in sector space all the time, and now it scales and reacts to your location within it all the better..

i hope they do throw in some crazy anomalies at some point, random events happening in sector space etc.. but i've not seen anything like that yet and I have been looking.
