In reference to the Erikson and Transport Raid Optional Objectives, is this even possible solo?
The damn Freighters seem to spontaneously heal and keep moving to their objective. So, you can't just disable them and hope to come back and get the cargo and half the time you accidentally blow them up if you're not careful. And you can't beam the cargo off the ships while you are being fired on by what seems like a dozen friggin Starfleet ships. What the heck are you supposed to do? Is there a pattern I am not divining?
This is not as fun as it is frustrating. Is this meant to "encourage" teaming?
What's the deal?
Same experience here, I went in with two friends and we were up against at least 12 fed ships. Needless to say we didn't manage to raid enough freighters.
I found a way to do it with a team. While two or three team members keep the attackers busy, the other team members (or a solo ship, I did it with a team of 3) uses stealth and sensor jamming skills to get clear and take out the Freighters. It worked quite nicely, but you have to have the skills Mask Energy Signature and Jam Sensors at the very least to do it. Other confusing and lock down skills would help as well.
"Gozerism" is only encouraging me to leave this game...
Implementing WoW sensibilities is really starting to turn me off from STO.
Oh boo hoo. As others have pointed out its still soloable.
People have been asking for more content that encourages teaming. KDF faction players have been asking for PvE content that is uniquely different from Fed and not a copy and paste. Sounds like Gozer hit two birds with one stone.
The sorties are only two patrol missions. There is still eight additional patrols introduced from the weeklies that the KDF has access to. They don't require any teaming. And with future feature series, I can only assume there will be more.
I soloed all but two of the submissions and that was on my first try (I didn't get the jam sensor minigame right off the bat)
As for the freighters, keep in mind your angle of approach. Instead of aggroing the center, try flying around taking them out in a clear run. On a team, I could imagine that a few cloaked BoP could get the freighters while the less agile Carriers could provide a distraction.

Did Cryptic make it harder? I played it on Tribble and didn't have any problem solo.

I was unable to complete the optional objectives in any of the sorties because I could never kill the Typhoon battleship in the end fast enough before they broke through my jamming signal and contacted startfleet, failing the optional objective.

Either they did made it a lot harder or a lot more bugged in the transfer to holo.
They are definitely changed from the version on tribble, which was soloable in a cruiser if you worked hard, but now its just plain ridiculous.

Whatever you say. In my opinion, forced grouping is a terrible mechanic to begin with. Scalable content is the way to go since it can appeal to everyone's taste; solo or group. Cryptic needs to stick with that philosophy to avoid complaints.

Try finding some other abilities with different BOs and and weapons you can keep on hand that are more affective. You can then swap these BOs and weapons when approaching the typhoon.
What makes the typhoon unique is that it constantly redistributes it's shields. Once you get past that though, it's hull is like butter and easy to cut through. Try using some abilities like tsss, tachyon beam, energy siphon, etc to help take down the shields faster.

But you're not forced. Others have done it solo, I have done it solo. Sure it's more challenging to do it that way. But we are warriors, not complainers.
Now go get some glory for the empire.
And just an fyi, scalable content doesn't make mission more complex. It just gives more health and dps to the NPCs. NPCs are still just as dumb and the missions are still just as simple.

Hmmm, I played it in BoP as an Engineer at Captain Level where i had my Power Transfer plus APO3+CRF2+HY1 followed by CRF1 if the ship managed to survive (I miss timed the HY).
I could see how being lower level in a different ship could pose a problem.
they get complaints when they dont have teamed content. one of the largest complaints is that this feels like a solo game. they try to fix it and people complain. so what are they meant to do?
the fact is this is optional content. you dont have to do it to complete the patrol. it just gives you something extra. no other mission in the game gives you optimal extras for teaming or nailing it just right.
you can complete the normal mission and get the skill points, you can then redo the misison like every 30 minutes, and have the path of the warrior running in the background for if and when you do complete the optional bit.
you dont even need to team because it is possible to do it solo. (i will admit on normal difficulty, have not tried higher) but if the difficulty is too high drop it down for these missions, get your rewards then move it back up.
Did Cryptic make it harder? I played it on Tribble and didn't have any problem solo.
From what I can see they made two changes.
In the Eriksson system raid. There are now a few civilian patrol ships. They arn't as much of a problem as much as they are a distraction. Their soul point seems to be to hit you interrupting any looting you might be doing. And if you try to fight them they just provide a delay.
For the Transport Attack. They added in Fed battleships. Before it was simply a race to disable to loot the required number of transports. Now you gota do it while being harassed by Federation big boys.
The problem here, is if this was done to encourage grouping it failed. The problem here isn't some hard to beat boss, or intelligent adversary, that effects everyone regardless of class and ship equally. Its time. So fast DPS ships will find this less of a problem them slower less bursty builds. So while it might be soloable for a BOP or Raptor driver. They can be all but impossible for support cruisers and carriers who need time to build up to their full DPS.
So the support ships are left out on their own and the DPS builds have little incentive to join in simply because they can solo it.

really, what is there to complain about?
It's almost as if the people who complain about no team content and the people who complain about too much team content are in fact 2 separate groups...
But back on topic, I read in another thread that there was supposed to be different objectives for tacs, engs and scis, but all we have so far are tac ones, which is why all the optional objectives boil down to "kill stuff really fast".

The DPS ships are having a hard time too. My Raptor is being interrupted by the harrasing civilian ships at Erickson and the little fleeters with the cargo ships are doing the same.
I even bypassed them all and went to the front of the line and stopped them all, but by the time it was time to loot them, the little escorts interrupted me and a couple cargo ships restarted and I was left just killing everything I could from frustration.
Nobody forces teaming. For one, these objectives are entirely optional, meaning you do not have to complete them. If you want to, teaming is encouraged. If you dislike teaming and find it too hard to do these objectives ... don't do the optional mission?
I for one applaud Gozer for this idea of encouraging and rewarding KDF teamplay and my group had a load of fun with this new challenge. It was really cool to split up the group into different sub-teams, each with their own task to aid in completing the objective. Very tactical.

The "Optional" part of the game is needed to complete the "Path of the Warrior". You still get credit for completing the prime missions, but the Path of the Warrior still remains at the top of the accolades until the "optional" parts are completed.
Yes Gozer is wonderful and this is hard. Gamestopper? No. Like the Infected and Terradome. It just stays packed away until.....someday.
The "Optional" part of the game is needed to complete the "Path of the Warrior".
Which is how it should be. What I meant is that "Path of the Warrior" should be seen as optional - if you can't do it, focus on the normal missions. It's like with the STFs, which are not meant to be solo'd either. Not everything has to be doable by everyone alone.*
Frankly, it's the only way. If you make PotW any easier, people will loose the incentive to group. Which in turn makes it less enjoyable, as the missions are really a lot more fun when done in a group. I really do not want to miss the experience I had in the "Blood Pi Canis" event, and I can't wait until next time.
*: Actually, I think the game as a whole needs a few more missions like that. STO isn't a single player game. Single player should always remain an option, but right now, there are few incentives to make proper teams. Aside from PvP.
Sometimes you just have to force people to their fun.
There is more than enough content in this game that can be completed solo - we need MORE team based action, not less. Mother of Artemis, this is an MMO!

Haha teaming didn't seem to help at all today for me....just made things more complicated.
Instead of trying to fully complete this mission with 2 fed ships attackin me, I had what seemed like an entire fleet attacking my team.....
