you stated get another 30 day free time. correct me i am wrong but i do not believe it is possible to use the 30 day free on an existing account that you already had your free 30 day when you originally bought your game.

that, and the 30 days of free time only applies if you buy a subscription. you basically get two months for the price of one.

No, you don't have to buy a sub to get the 30 free days... You don't basically get two months for the price of one. Every copy of the game comes with 30 free days without subbing. You just can't stack free days into one account.

i had to buy one with mine. it was even explicitly stated on the page i was on while trying to activate.

Well I didn't have to pay for TRIBBLE until my 30 free days were practically over. I'm guessing you misunderstood. It's literally 30 free days. Not buy 1 get 1 free.

You have to plug in your card number but you could cancel the sub before the first month is over and you wouldn't pay anything.

You don't have to buy a subscription. You simply need to have a credit card on file to activate it. You can cancel during your 30 free days at any time and never spend a dime on a subscription. Many people cancel many games within the first 30 free days.

I have extended a friend's account by 30 days by giving him the key I from a copy I bought on sale. I'm pretty sure you can stack another 30 days on for each copy of the game you buy, but I'm not positive from first-hand experience because I'm a lifer so additional days don't affect me.

Can someone with firsthand experience confirm/deny this?

i honestly thought so too, until i saw the box that said i had to buy one. maybe it was my edition of the game or something, i don't know.

i'm not sorry for buying it or anything (i do love the game), i just wish i'd known beforehand.

oh, ok. that's what i did then.

i actually did consider cancelling it if the game sucked, but... it didn't, etc.

Finally STO is getting cheaper. I remember when CO was 99p at one point - a very cheap way to sub for 30 days :)

Bought my CE from take2/Amazon. We didn't get the CE in South Africa. Didn't use any keys yet as I'm a lifer and only wanted it for the commbadge.

Yeah, I bought several copies, too (Steam DDE, CE, and Amazon. then another for the EMH console) and was pretty irritated when most of the stuff I'd paid hundreds for showed up for a few bucks in the C-store.

I actually feel the opposite. Anything that brings in more players is a great thing...more players means more subscriptions which means more dev time which means more content. I am loving where the game is going and I am glad that the low box price makes it "accessible" to more people.

Can you link to it? I don't see it at that price.

I did, notice that the Collector's Edition is still 55% off ( $8.99 USD ) though.

I hope the Christmas season brings in some new faces to the game. I love STO and want to see it keep growing.
