Is it just me, or is STO painfully slow?

So, I haven't played for about 2-3 months, since I've been at school. But now that I have a week off for the holidays, I decided to try to play some STO. I get terrible lag on both Holodeck and Tribble to the point where the game is unplayable, and I just quit and play something else. There are times that I can't even log in because the account server times out.

It's getting really old, honestly, since these problems existed 2-3 months ago as well. I really want to play STO, but I can't because of the lag and server timeouts. Season 3 looks like it's going to be bringing more awesome stuff, too...that I won't be able to enjoy.

I haven't been getting any unusual lag on the the holodeck. Have you checked your proxy?

No problems here either beyond beyond keeping the odd toddler from "helping." The game loads and runs smoothly as far as I can tell.

Can you define "unusual lag"? For me, most of the lag is on populated planets - ESD, Memory Alpha, sometimes DS9 if there are a lot of people. Once I manage to log in and leave the place I am, the game is fine. But it's a struggle for me to get out of <insert populated space here> and to sector space to do missions.

The account server issues appear to be mostly on Tribble. They happened two or three times on Holodeck, but always cleared up when I retry the login.

Unusual for me means any. :) Social areas have a lot more people and tend to use a lot more system memory to hold all that data. Your lags might be memory based rather then server/internet based. How much memory does your system have?

    Definitely something on your end.

To get some help you should:

Repost this in the technical support forum
    Include more info, such as:

    Location
Type of internet and network configuration in your home/room/whatever
    Computer specs.

I'd try switching proxy when you login, that always helps me out.

Failing that do you have any other MMOG's you can compare the lag to or is it just STO?

yup, if this happened to you months ago and is happening again now it sounds like its on your end. thousands of people have played happily in that time. How is your connection, down, up, latency etc?

Go to Start Menu> Accessories> System Tools> System Information.

Select all and copy. Paste the details here and REMOVE YOUR PRIVATE DETAILS! And you can remove some of the irrelevant info.
    Like this:

    Available Physical Memory 5.60 GB
    Total Virtual Memory 16.0 GB
    Available Virtual Memory 13.4 GB
    Page File Space 7.99 GB

Then go to Components > Display and Select the relevant information there.
    Like this:
    Name ATI Radeon HD 5450
Adapter Type ATI display adapter (0x68F9), ATI Technologies Inc. compatible
Adapter RAM 512.00 MB (536,870,912 bytes)

Yes. I've been having lag issues for the past 3-4 weeks. Prior to that I had none.

Today in Infected, there was severe rubber banding and tray item failiures. I believe the entire community is playing on only one server. I'm not sure how common that is. I don't have lag issues in general anyplace else and speed tests don't indicate a problem.

I do know it's become noticeably worse as I said in the last few weeks.
