Cloaked Mines:

Where are my cloaked mines? They'd deploy, then cloak right away. You could lure people into them.
Heck, I want self replicating cloaked mines. If any of the mines miss and some are destroyed they'll, at a medium pace, spawn more of them.

P.S. mines suck so buff them too. ;)

And there are canon references to those being cross-faction...

    Yes, the Klingons used them.

Nope. The Federation used them. I highly doubt the powers that use cloak a LOT more wouldn't know how to make them too.

No, the Klingons used them too. Chronologically, they used them before the Feds.

Now THIS idea I like... you could have an officer ability to cloak them, so you don't have to create a whole new series of weapons. Just like a dispersal pattern, it works for one cluster of mines...

With the exception of Tricobalts of course... that would get a bit overpowered. LOL

Sorry, but self replicating mines where a really bad idea from DS9. Cool in theory, but practice ...

    But cloaked mines would work....

Indeed, the Klingon cloaked mines were just plain cloaked mines, no self-replication.

But then of course there is the concern of "balance".
Before anything like this is implemented, cloak countermeasures need to be improved significantly.

Oh, you could get rid of their "chase" ability. You'd make it so you'd have to actually run into them.

That's a bad idea. Keep the chase. Maybe slow them down. Lower the DPS a bit.

I think if they're exposed by a anti-cloak move they're damage would be reduced significantly. If they hit you without you using an anti-cloak move on them and your shields are down or you're at full impulse they'll automatically crit.

    I like this idea.

I support this, but I think running into them is better than the chase. So, I support that, not the chasing. And no self replication.

They'd better do a lot more damage if they don't chase. You could easily fly through a cluster and not hit anything, especially if you're a small ship. There more space in mines to miss them than hit them.

Agreed. Cloaked mines are a great idea, but they should be Detonate On Contact, not chasers. Keep the standard non-cloaked mines as chasers.

Again, the problem with that is that you'd almost never actually run into one. Mines are spread out too thinly. Plus it doesn't make sense at all tech wise since space is so big there's no way you'd ever physically hit one. :P

Yeah... so how about cloaked mines that do basically nothing damage-wise, but can be deployed at a much faster rate? I think it would be a good way to set up an alert perimeter in PvP --especially if/when the open PvP zones open up and you're trying to hold down a claimed fort.
