We have some. I'm actually against this idea because you'd end up with this:

    1) Either all the planets strangely have the same animals.

    or

    2) Making so many animals makes the devs not do as much work with what actually matters (hint, it's not animals).

Boy I hope so!!! This is another thing that has been sorely lacking in the game!!! And I really hope they are agressive so when you are doing the mindless scan 5 rocks, there is a chance they will attack you!

Strange because this idea was meant to be completed, I thought.

Doesn't have to be *every* planet. Still, I'd rather have the same animals on every planet than no animals on any planet. Right now it kinda feels like everywhere you go has recently undergone some cataclysmic biome collapse leaving only plant life (and those weird floating octopus things that you see sometimes).

I still really want some way to research or document information about the animal species that we encounter. I think it'd be one of those big steps towards fulfilling the "Seek out new life" part of Trek that's missing right now.

about the animals Aggression: I think they should be ambivalent to your presence unless you make sudden moves or attack them. Run up to it and scare it? It defends its' territory. carefully sneak up and take a DNA sample? Boom, some info for your wildlife database.

AMEN!!!!! Perhaps get bonus points if you can scan/document them VS just killing them! (and vice a versa for Klingons! :D)

It's about priorities. Animals just wouldn't add more than a slight diversion. The kind of few seconds every week you'd spend mindlessly slaughtering a squirrel in WoW or other MMOs.

STO needs work done that is much more important.

Also, I wonder if some existing animals might be usable in the foundry....

Surveys were taken months ago, so time has already been invested in this project, popping a few critters on the planets would be a nice welcome addition as well as other improvements.

where did you see the critters?

if they're just wandering around as part of the scenery then yeah, probably. That's why I'm saying there should be more to it than that. Scan them and gather information, kill them and use their parts as food ingredients. Maybe certain animals would, say, produce a chemical that needs to be harvested for medicine as part of a diplomacy mission. You could kill them to get it, or capture them and release them later. Think of how the Breen/Deferi slave mission plays out - lots of possible paths to get to, essentially, the same end. Gives you options as far as how you want your character to play. Preferably there would be accolades, titles, trophies, etc. dealing with handling the animal species in different ways. Klingons could have a kill accolade and mount a Targ head on the wall. For a Federation officer, you're probably not gonna get away with a dead animal in your office, so maybe a hologram of the creature.

It can be more than that, even. Got a mission with complicated terrain? (I'm thinking of The Cure as an example)
follow a herd of animals to find an efficient sidepath around an enemy patrol. Seriously, the possibilities for something like this are endless and, given the imaginative tactics we've seen so far with the newer diplomacy and weekly episodes, I have faith that the dev team could really pull off something amazing with it.

I hope the devs are listening, this would be a sure way of bringing some excitement to this game.
