Just wanted to see what other people were going to build when they get their hands on the Foundry. No other reason to make this topic then to just sate my curiosity.
I'm actually planing on working with a ton of Klink based UGC since there is very little officially there, I should have free rain with my stories. A few ideas of mine include a Klingon Civil War where the player has the option of trying to stop the war (which will ultimately fail, but the option is still there.) or join in the merriment of bloodshed that is sure to come. (they are Klingons after all, war is something they enjoy) I'm hoping I'm allowed to have options available to me so that I can allow the player to pick a side, and branch off two distinct but different parallel story arcs. Thus, allowing the player to be able to only play one side of the content.
It's not tricky, I've done something similar story and programing wise with RM2K with a few of my stories, but the Foundry, will in fact be different, and I know it's just a baseline system... still... here's hoping.
Give me your ideas, be it programing or storywise.
I'll be developing missions that tell the origin story of my toons for starters. This will give me an opportunity to learn the toolset. After that ... the galaxy is a very big place.
I have a good story arc idea that i'm going to attempt. I'll start with the first, and see how the foundry works and depending on the ease and speed of use will depend on how in depth they go.
I have a well fleshed out story, and plan to have more tradition star trek element - while there will certainly be battles, I plan to focus largely on investigative, diplomatic and engineering puzzles to a larger degree than what the devs episodes really deal with... and instead of going into maps and being told to destroy 20 ships on my own, I think I will try to balance the combat so that at any time, the player ship will encounter only one or two ships on a map rather than killing three, having another three spawn kill them, have another three spawn in etc etc.
Truth be told, as a RL writer I'm pretty excited to see how I can tell my stories via the Foundry.
Some storylines for the Foundry that I hope to create:
A Vulcan Separatist movement wants to split from the Federation after allegations that the many skirmishes they've waged were based on faulty intelligence and manipulation by the Undine - you must convince they of your intentions as a representative of Starfleet.
A respected warrior in your House is getting married. You must gather resources to make the Var'Hama candles necessary for the ceremony - as well as slaughter a targ worthy of the nuptials.
Allegations of misconduct have disrupted Starfleet Security Training at the Starfleet School of Security on Andoria. Investigate the claims of cheating and racial bias against some of the students.
This is going to sound a little strange.... but, I plan to have missions based on episodes and Characters of the popular American version of The Office.... Yah... I know....

Just be careful - infringing on copyrighted works is a big no-no (unless it's the Star Trek CBS owns rights to).
I cannot confirm or deny that I've recreated the entire cast of Futurama though.

Meh... So long as you can try to make it in the ball park of cannon I'll vote for it, otherwise, you lost me there. Can you get more in-depth with what your trying to do?
I'm hoping to be able to create a "Court Martial" style mission, where your job is to sit on the Senior Officer panel, listen to the evidence, and make a determination in the case. Depending on what you can do with the tools, you might be going into a Holodeck, to put yourself in the accused officer's position and see what brought about the Court Martial yourself.
Back when I first heard about the foundry, I assumed that the arrival of the sehlat pet would also mean that wild sehlat critters would also be added to the game, so my initial story idea was "The Science of Sehlats", and it was going to involve a research facility looking into breeding sehlats for the purpose of making them effective counter-weapons against war-targs. Of course, as per typical fashion, something on the facility has gone horribly wrong.
However, can't exactly persue that because I don't think wild sehlat NPCs will be in the Foundry toolset any time soon, so I've come up with a new plot idea. I've noticed that most of the ideas that are coming to me all focus on advancing the Federation-Klingon War plot line, which I guess I think Cryptic hasn't persued enough.
Without giving too much away, my next plot idea will revolve around a thought I had about doubts over Klingon political sustainability in a wartime effort -- what are the effects of a war effort constantly undermined by Klingon culture's own excessive desire for internal house warfare, bloodshed, and loss of resources? And what kind of message does that send to the enemies of the Empire?
Stay on the lookout for my episodes when the Foundry beta rolls about!
It was just a joke. In DS9 a lot of Quarks holodeck programs were TRIBBLE. I will be making a lot of Romulan Tal shir and section 31 spy quest. Some Cardassians Federation war quest where you have to fix the time line.

I was joking too but decided not to put a (raspberry face) to see if anyone got it.
Not sure what is possibles with the tools yet, but I want to create a mission where you temporarily serve as first officer on another ship for an important secret mission. Story involves tension with captain and crew and mutiny and all that jazz.

I am going to start with one star system and really flesh it out. I already have some ideas on how to make the system far more interactive. The current ground missions are far too limited and don't really give one the sense of exploring a planet with lots of quests. I believe I can remedy that and demonstrate to Cryptic that more fleshed out planets are not difficult, can be done with the current software limitations, and hopefully will be fun for the players to play through.
I have already been working on the back story in anticipation of the foundry feature, but I have a lot of work to do there, and I won't reveal it because its not finished by any means. I will most likely change things up as I am working on my first star system due to unforseen factors and such.
My first major task will be to design a ship interior. I haven't yet determined if we'll be able to "make rooms" using wall sections, or if we'll choose from a library of pre-made rooms.
For example, I think the room that currently serves as the "Captain's Quarters" would make a very nice conference room, or officer's lounge. But what I'll do will depend a lot on how flexible the system is. for example, if the room comes pre-furnished, then that idea is right out. If I can actually build rooms using wall pieces like legos, then I'll be able to be far more creative in the design. Based on some of the comments I've seen, we may not be able to arrange rooms at all, and may be stuck with the maps that exist.
It all really depends on how much we CAN do. and until I know that, there's not a lot of point in making plans. I'll check out the options, and then formulate a plan from there.
My eventual goal would be to make a ship interior upon which to build several different missions... (alien intruder, shipwide disaster, etc).. an interior that eventually would also serve as my own ship's interior.

Well, My main thing, is I want the kind of interaction that happens on that show. Changing names enough so there would be no legal episodes, yet, keeping them similar enough to recognized by fans of the show. Same with how the characters act, and maybe the Plots.
I may looks for plots in the show that could work, and change them to be Star Trek, or just have the premise the same the create my own plots.
Dont worry about me going out of canon.;)
But I will make sure everything is very... um.... trekky,,,,
A hilarious take on the Vulcan Love Slave holodeck program.
The player enters the Holodeck intent on some sweet Vulcan lovin'. But as he/she initiates conversation with the Slave, the ship is attacked.
*fight trio of Frigates, one Escort here*
Captain returns to the Holodeck to resume their breaktime activities only to find a second Slave present. Confused the Captain contacts the bridge and requests a detailed damage report. Report comes back with nothing major, but a hit near the Holodeck may have jarred things a bit.
The second Slave then talks to you, promising vague erotic things if you'll do her a few (non-sexual) favors first. These include fetching a few mundane objects from around the Holodeck environment:
1) A key from a Bolian (you can attack and knock him out (Tac allows you to knock him out without a gunfight), or Diplomacy him into handing it over)
2) An Idol from an Orion (Diplomacy her into handing it over, Science her into thinking she's allergic to the wood, or just attack her and take it)
3) And the power source from your/a tricorder (Diplomacy her into sending the original slave after one instead, Engineering allows you to pop it right out, or you can make a quick jog to a storage area and pick up a loose one)
At this point the strange second Slave starts laughing maniacally. She calls you a fool and inserts the key into the Idol, which then seems to draw power from the cell. She continues to explain her evil plot to you about taking over the world, but killing you with her vague new power first.
At this point you are given three dialog options that all lead to the same result;
So this means no threesome?
What's going on!?
How did I not see this coming...?
Do glorious combat with her.
After victory, the bridge contacts you, warning you that they've pinpointed exactly what about the Holodeck was damaged; your Love Slave program has been scrambled irrevocably with a Super-Spy program, and the mortality failsafe was inactive. You reply with something along the lines of "Naw, ya think?".
I'll be developing missions that tell the origin story of my toons for starters. This will give me an opportunity to learn the toolset. After that ... the galaxy is a very big place.
Ditto. All those bio stories I made aren't going to waste. Also, I'm looking forward to fleshing out the home worlds of all my alien bo's.
The Forum folk seemed to like Romulans. Maybe a couple of Romulan themed ones.

Lol, Don't worry, I have changed everything up enough in my write ups to be legally distinct.
Careful - anything more than two layers deep and your dead wife will railroad through your storyline.
Darn, I will have to think of new names then, darn!

I am eagerly looking forward to Foundry!
