That just drives me nuts how my ship does a stand still turn about before warping out. I find myself trying to find my own clear path before warp just to prevent it, yet sometimes it happens anyway. Looks completely unreal and I know it shouldn't, but it drives me insane.
It drives me nuts to, if I want to warp into an empty space...ill point it that way...others dont care...so let them do whatever//but it does drive me nuts that im forced to stop and auto point...even when I was originally pointing my ship at empty space.
I wondered how long it would take for this thread to pop up. The only reason your ship turns is because too many people whined that they didn't like their ship warping thru planets.
I guess you cant please everyone. As one of those who asked for this feature, i still prefer this animation than none at all.
I expect it will be improved in the future. Given how some maps have a thousand and one random rocks floating about, you cant expect the animation pathing to work perfectly.
I'd rather see this than the new Sprint animation for males, but I agree, this needs to be looked at. If our path is clear it shouldn't be turning us at all.
I'm not saying that they should turn this feature off, just that it needs some fine tuning.
I used to like to warp through holes in asteroids and narrow divides between structures. I've chosen a clear path. My helmsman shouldn't decide that his path is better and ignore my orders.
It is TRULY amazing what things people will find to complain about.
The auto turn was created in response to those people too lazy to direct a clear path for themselves, but simultaniously wanted to NOT look as though they just warped straight into a planet... NOW we have to appeal to those that actually take the time to define a clear path themselves and can't abide the AI deciding for them.
Just as I am certain that the 'slingshot' part of "Night of the Comet" mission that they are going to create an auto-pilot feature for... will have those people who will complain incessantly that this feature is dumb as well. It seems to me that it is human nature to find the bad in absolutely EVERYTHING no matter how trivial.
I log on every day, I pick one of my 5 alts and play that character for a few hours. As I do, I enjoy all the aspects of the game I can, as much as I can. Why can't people just behave this way in general? Instead of praising that which we already have, we must SUXXOR the fun out of it and point out all the TRIBBLE we DON'T have.
I agree that without the 'squeeky wheels', the developers wouldn't feel inclined to make improvements to the game... but my point is why must the 'squeeks' be about silly things like this, and not more important things? Can we just let this stuff go, so the developers can allocate their time to more important issues?
Yes, I remember the threads about warping thru planets. I remember the kat who was showing the game to his brother who said he would never play this game because a ship left a system by warping thru a planet. I also remember the discussion about stargate physics allowing for this but star trek physics were a different story.
I guess people want they want, sometimes without good reason. I want this game to have a lot of things but for now I just want to say thanks Cryptic, I am enjoying your video game.
I have trouble seeing why this is a big deal? Is this such a glaring error that it needs immediate allocation of resources? If you think it does, then I think something is wrong with your priorities.
/agreed. The stupid run animation, I understand because you stare at that all day. But a 2 second turn? Let it go.
I wish the people who complained about warping through planets (when they were never forced to) would have let it go. If they had, I would not have to sit here and explain to you why I am not up for the task of letting it go.

The former part of your statement is actually the problem. The latter is about people getting annoyed because they lost something in the process of the developers helping out players who were too lazy to solve their own problem.
"I don't like warping through planets."
"Ok, so don't warp through planets."
Pretty much how that conversation should have gone.

Honestly I don't care either way what the warp sequence does...but I do have to comment on this. If this is why they added the turning before warp...they failed miserably. My ship still does that quite often, sometimes even turns to point itself straight at the planet on its own.

I sign only to this...
If I were a Dev I would be getting a massive headache right now reading this.

Sure, I will just sit back and keep my mouth shut about every single little thing anyone cries about that causes the Devs to create things such as the "About Face!" action of the ship, right before warp. This way I will not have to sit here and read rants such as yours. Hell, how about they just make the game to play itself for me? That way I can just sit back and watch the game play itself? Pretty much what's happening anyway, one change at a time...
would it bother you if you hit the warp sequence once you thought you were clear and a npc or player ship crossed your path, causing you to warp through that? the auto sequence does a good enough job to prevent that in most cases. before, it used to happen to me all the time, esp in ESD and other social zones. im the captain anyways, not the pilot, leave the navigating to the helmsmen.

I agree, this is awful and unrealistic. A slow movement turn could solve this, and negate the planet warp through issue.

This is what I do not understand. If you do not like warping through planets, then why did you point your ship at one before hitting the warp button?
That's like saying, "I refuse to stop jumping in fires. I demand you put up a gate so I can't jump in the fire even if I want to."
I have a difficult time understanding that logic.

Cry Havok... And Let Loose the Dogs of War...!!!
Really ... move on... it ain't gonna happen...

I think Troi snuck her way onto my ship

By the way, you misspelled squeaky and squeaks.
Well, no one MADE you read my 'rant'.
Thanks, I sure did... now I feel really stupid, taking spelling lessons from someone in Kentucky...
I LOLed very hard at that one.
