Ok, so Im new, first real month that I have been playing the game. im only a Lieutenant 6, so I have a ways to go of course. Im just wondering will things get better? Will I have more options for a ship, without having to spend actual money in the C store? I read about "episodes", yet I am still doing these simple missions like when I started. i know I may be just doing things out of lack of knowledge. but Im wondering if I should continue to play the game or if it stays the same as when i started.
thanks

Go to the Sirius Sector Block, head "south" to Eta Eridani. There, you should see the option in the bottom right hand corner of your screen to contact the guy who gives you the missions for the Devidian series episodes.

Once you get to Lt.Com.1, head "west" from Eta Eridani into the Orrellias Sector Block, there, you can contact Ambassador Surah for the Deferi series episodes.

If you need any help actually doing a mission, send me a PM through the mail system @Katic

And yes, once you get to Lt.Com1, you'll have a choice of one of three ships, an Escort (good for Tactical Officers), a Cruiser (good for Engineers), or a Science Vessel (good for science Officers).

    Yes, it gets better.

You get your first starship commission when you reach Lieutenant Commander (level 11). You get another one for each rank up after that. You will only ever have to spend EC on ships if you want extras or you want a special starship (like the Nebula or the Excelsior).

At Lieutenant 6 you are already eligible to start the new Devidian series. You can find it in the Eta Eridani sector block.

Keep going. The ships get more powerful. You gain more skills and the enemies get even more challenging.

    Welcome and good luck.
If you ever have a question feel free to ask. We're all very glad to help.

At level 6 you can start the Devidian Feature Episodes by travelling to the Eta Eridani sector and talking to Drake (a button on the lower right side of the hud).

You get new ships at level 11, 21, 31, 41

If you left click on your experience bar at the top of the screen it will bring up a list of all the things you get at which levels.

    Hope that helps!

It's all going to depend on what sort of game play you like.

For me I realy enjoyed the Story Missions, intermixed with some repeatable Explore Missions.

What I did was print out the List Of Missions at stowiki (link here) and work my way through them.
Its a great way to level up and have some fun with. One day I looked up and I hit cap.

The game does improve considerably as you progress, as more abilities & options are within your reach. Things get more interesting at Lieutenant Commander, when you are presented your first real choice in ship type. Escort (DPS) Cruiser (Tank/Heals) & Science (Debuffs/Heals) starships all offer a differing gameplay experience. You get more usable bridge officer abilities, and class abilities as well.

In my opinion, Commander 1 (21) is when the game really starts to shine.

Actually, you can access the Deferi episodes at LT 10. ;)

And to echo everyone else who has posted, it does improve once you hit Lieutenant Commander.

    It defiantly gets better !

Wait till Season 3 hits and sector space revamp hits. Also the way the new mission contacts are set up are SO much better and less confusing.

If you need any help, PM me in game and ill assist.

Oh..and avoid Hobus at all costs!

    1. There are allot of ships in the game you don't have to pay for.
    2. You will get the opportunity to get a new ship at every new rank.
    3. And finally things do get much better.
