I'm very disappointed that there are so many cool things they are adding to the C-store in spite of the fact that this is a subscription based game. I won't be buying anything from the C-store because I feel we should have access to at least some of this stuff being a subscribing member.
Tell me, am I totally out of line here? Does everyone think it's okay to charge more money for extra ships and costumes?
Generally, my position is that anything that is basically cosmetic and does not have a significant impact on gameplay is fair game for the CStore. Obviously, there are some grey areas.
Keep in mind that a lot of new content also gets added for free, like the new shiny TOS phaser pistol and rifle.
The C-Store brings in additional revenue which would not be possible with subscriptions alone. This extra revenue is used in part to create more items for the C-Store so it can be a seperate, but self-sustaining, division. Some of the money generated by the C-Store is used for more dev staff and other non-C-Store projects which are added "free" (STFs, Diff Slider/Punishment System, Diplomacy, etc...).
STO could do away with the C-Store and the game would not go under.. But Cryptic would have to severely cut the number of staff to survive on subscriptions alone. This means less bug fixes, less new content, and all of it less frequent.
The C-store allows Cryptic to have more staff which means more bug fixes, more new content, and all of it more frequent.
Nobody is forcing anyone to purchase the items in the C-Store.. But know that each item you do purchase helps the game get better in multiple ways for everyone.
The only thing I will be strongly opposed to is when people complain that in game achievements will be available in the C-Store. I don't like the "Its to hard to get that item, can I please buy it". I don't think I have seen anything like that yet though
I wish they would put as much into the game it self as the c-store we'd see alot of improvements
Like sector space?
Wait I can't find it in the c-store.....
Oh well, time to buy a pet to follow me, and a sexy new outfit.
Yeah!!! It's Saturday!!!! Time to play the weekly mission..... WTH????? Some one help I can't find the new missions in the c-store!!!!!!!
Need I go on?
You pay for a game, you get updates and missions etc. There's a c-store, unlike some games, no healing packs or xp bonuses to buy there just fluff. (Stop now. You don't want to buy a ship in c-store you have a way of getting it).

I'd say you haven't been paying much attention to the game if you believe that. Where do you think the Difficulty Slider came from? The new Sector Space? The Diplomacy System? The Refit ships for Feds and Klinks? all the new zones? The new dailies? The weeklies? There's no fluff in the c-store that amounts to even the smallest fraction of what's been put into this game for free since launch.
-groans- dude, the c-store helps PAY for the amazing new features we've been getting - the team of designers in charge of the c-store and the team that works on the coding/modeling/implementation of new designs aren't even attached/connected to each other save for what the Dev's give them to work on.
Each team get their allotted portion of the budget and they each are expected to deliver their own product. Of course the C-store stuff is more noticeable - it's got a price tag on it - but considering the frequent and regular updates we get - for free- I don't think we're suffering from 'content' withdrawal
I think the C-Store has its place for additional services, toons, and fluff, but I do not agree with the items earned in-game being offered later in the C-Store.
