Mini Game Request : Slingshot Rings

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I've read a few posts complaning about the Slingshot Rings in the mission "Night of the Comet"

I personally didn't find it difficult and got it first go ;).

What about a minigame of this? Add more rings please :D
We would have some accolaides assocated to number of rings passed?

It's probobaly not very Star Trek, but its more fun and 'skill based' than Dabo.

It would certainly be cool to open this up for the foundry... I'm sure a few players would find some sort of use for it.

Hmm... It would be cool to see those graphics used in races, especially if the tech was available to keep checkpoints, without speeding players up...

Anyone remember Lucasarts first game called X-Wing?

Had an obstacle course where you pilot your X-Wing through rings but the rings were all over and not just a circle.

I think Sonic the Hedgehog had it too.

If I remember correctly, some ST themed console games from the early 90s had such an element of gameplay:
You would steer your ship by passing such LCARS trajectory indicator (aka our rings), to follow a plasma trail or maneuver that trace through a asteroid belt, or etc.
I think with those "rings" it would work plenty well as another type of exploration mission, where you would be given a mission to follow a trail through space, some maps with obstacles maybe, and you would have to do it over if you missed a "checkpoint" or such.

I forget which thread it was, but there was a lengthy discussion brought up before about a racing-type minigame. With these rings in place now, that could very well be made a reality, and we could see more than a few racing maps. Obviously, escorts would have the advantage in maneuverability, though I seem to recall a suggestion that if the races are multiplayer, everyone races in a shuttle so it's more even and more skill-based.

Reminds me of the Voyager episode "Drive." I'm definitely a fan of this idea.

It would also be nice if they were semi-strategically placed throughout Sector Space to allow for boosts while travelling.

Could be used as a docking mini-game as well. Accolade for X number of successful dockings.

And before someone cries, "Press-F" just docks and skips the game.

    @OP Excellent idea!

PvP type racing would be great, it could even bring some non PvPers into it. The more rings you go through the faster you fly and if you miss some you slowdown. I'm all for it.
