Borg enhancements: They will impact PVP, we are forced to do those bloody STF?!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Err.... so.... someone had the brilliant idea to make these stupid additions, enhancing ships.
And other options of obtaining them are conspicuously absent from that Season 3 preview post.

Now i am forced to do those bloody bad missions over and over again to not get out equipped?
What.

They said that they are working to improve the stf missions, too.

Other than that? Welcome to an mmo.

You don't need the new gear to play the game. So just don't do the STF's.

Also, The STF's aren't that hard.

I'm sure the enhancements will be similar to the current STF Antiproton rewards - ie, most beneficial when doing other STF/PvE content.

    a) i was under the impression they were cosmetic.
    b) the are improving them in the future to be able to solo.
    c) its not shocking to find rewards for harder group missions in games, especially mmos.
    d) even if they add bonuses you wont need them to be able to play the game.

its a matter of pvp balance, where every advantage counts.

STFS are BAD in that they aren't FUN, not in that they are "hard". Learn the difference.

So far cryptic has done a good job of not bothering the... more pvp inclined population with much forced pve, why the paradigm shift?

it's not a paradigm shift. For all you know you could buy them at the exchange because they're bind on equip, and fill a devoce slot. Your going crazy and assuming to much.

Personally i don't like the look of them and seriously hope they are not game changing enough to have to get them to compete well in PvP.

Can we please first wait until we see the actual stats of those items before crying doom?

there also will be a set for crafting... you complain about having to scan anomalies next?

you know what? i don't care anyway... gotten sick of PvP after doing the same 2 maps for over 6 Months... let it die or bring on some serious updates to it.

I certainly hope not, this game already has way too much stuff you can do "solo".

This community never ceases to disappoint me...

So for putting in the "hard" work of doing stf's you expect nobody to get any kind of bonus or slight advantage?

MMO's used to be fun because you had to dig a little and work for a real reward. I'm glad STF's are difficult. This population seems to just want rewards all the time for doing barely anything. There isn't one mission in this game (save for the STF's) that you cant walk through solo, occasionally using a hypo and constantly pressing 1 or 2 to fire your weapon and "F" to complete some menial task.

    Make STF's harder.

Make the rewards give advantages in pvp!

    I'm all for this.

In order to compete maybe some of you might have to put a little thought and effort into this game for once.

It is not the "difficulty factor" that people have a problem with, but the mindless zergfest design of them.

From what I saw, the best gear in the game still comes primarily form the Marks of Honor vendor on K-7 - them from emblem vendors.

What if they made you have to run the STF 10x as much solo to get the same reward as by grouping? Surely someone doing it that much is putting in as much work as someone grouping.

I can only answer this kind of awe inspiring BS with a flat:

    What.
I am not asking that there be no rewards, i am asking for EQUAL rewards i can get as a pvper.

Yes this is an mmo, and i enjoy playing with friends - doing PVP.

Where does this thought come from that gear should only be given to people who spend their time flooring the same npcs over and over again?! (or fly around and gather stuff all day to then sit somewhere and click the same button a hundred times.

    ???

Like it or not, its been said time and time again, by Devs and players alike, that STO leans heavily towards the PVE players. PVP will ALWAYS be a lower priority for the DEVs. That, however, does not mean the DEVs do not care or will not add any more rewards for PVP. I'm sure they will... but EQUAL? never. Sorry.

Yeh its a pretty bad idea if it comes only from STFs.The current loot model is 1 of the big advantages of STO,you can get the gear what you want with doing the part of the game you like without being forced to do something what you dont want to do.Lets not change that.

For the record I want to do all the STFs in the (far)future but just once.I am not interested in doing the same thing twice because I am not a big fan of dungeons/raids/5 man instances,I want do it just to see what its all about(and I dont know that they are drops or vendor items but I hate loot RNG too).

If you want a pvp only game go play one this is star trek. that's what it said on the box when i bought the game. and stf's should have better rewards that you can not get any other way .

The STF's should give better rewards, then I would have a reason to play them beyond the first time for the story.

I like to do weekly episodes, patrol missions, normal missions(just to read the story and see the place) but doing the same PvE mission more than once or twice is not something what I want to do because its boring(I do the weeklies on more than one char and the second time I read nothing just pewpew with my gun until it ends just to get the reward).

+you cant say that Star Trek is just PvE because if I fight a Galaxy class ship with my Bird of Prey that looks like Star Trek to me too

+show me in which episode of Star Trek capt. Picard farmed the same planet 24 times just to get leet gear set for his ship(like it or not but STFs are not more Trek than PvP)

+if I want to be rude I can tell you that you should play a single player game if you want PvE because those games are all about PvE and nothing else(but I dont want to be rude so I wont say that:))

I'm sry Jin. Maybe as the game becomes better and more popular, the suffering of the klingons will diminish. I think in about a year they should allow klingons from the beginning. that should help a little.

This is a pretty broad assumption since we have very little information on how these will work.

All I want is that PvP and PvE should offer equal endgame gear(as it is currently). The current system is perfect,I can get my gear for doing something what I find fun,you can get the same gear for doing what you want to do I cant see the problem and I dont understand why you think that you deserve better rewards for doing a scripted encounter over and over again(for me PvP is more interesting because its never the same, different opponents and they can surprise me every day and PvE feels like a book the second/third etc. time).

edit:I dont like the my way or the highway developer mentality(wow),there I had 2 options: farm the boring and brainless content what I dont want to do to get the best gear for PvP or leave.I left. The STO system is just perfect and the majority of the players are casuals and I dont understand why it should change. If something is not broken dont fix it.This is a game and I play games to have fun, lots of players dont need a second job.If the best gear in the game will be available just from STFs I will try to farm them(though this will be hard if not impossible for the klingons) but the time will come when I will say that I had enough of this.

edit2:I understand that there is a need for team based PvE content for such players as yourself but handing out the the best gear in them is not the only way to make them more popular.
-cryptic can make them easier(it shouldnt be to easy but the current difficulty level is bit to much)
-a global LFG channel for STFs(who wants to sit in gamma orionis doing nothing just to get a group?)
    -cosmetic items(pets,BOs etc.)

I haven't run an STF yet, so I can't comment on the gameplay thereof, but I can say that I like WoW's current itemization/gearing goal - namely, you do PvE content and get rewards that are good for PvE or you do PvP content and get rewards that are good for PvP. You can see hints of this in the STF weapons with bonus damage/procs vs Borg, and this is what I expect will be the case for the "borg set items", while the future crafting set will probably be more generic. The alternative that Cryptic uses in the Emblems system is interesting, but it has the downside of forcing the players to eat a large opportunity cost in emblems/day for opting out of content types they do not enjoy.

To bad that the best PvP gear is the PvE gear in that game.
-weapons:highest item level weapons come from PvE(and the PvP weapons have no procs and they suffer from bad itemization too:attack power instead of strength on melee weapons)
-set bonuses:the best set bonuses for PvP are usually on PvE sets
-trinkets:the best trinket what you can get from PvP is outdated since more than a year(if you want a good trinket you need to raid)
-the best ring comes from PvE(ICC rep)
-neck and cloak:the melee necks and cloaks were really bad compared to the PvE alternatives when I played(they had attack power instead of strength)

and the new tier of PvE gear always comes out months before the new arena season begins so if you dont raid you start the new season with a big a disadvantage(half my server server had heroic bryntroll before season 8 which is better than the t2 weapon what needs 2200 rating)

This is why I said design goal, and not implementation. One could further argue some of your complaints about itemization, but that is far off the topic for this thread.
