Because TOS was before my time (born 1968) and when the TNG came out I was a freshman offensive lineman at a JUCO (or 13th grade for the clones out there) so I missed a lot of TNG and continued the trend with VOY and DS9.....I was just a little lacking on the back stories for the Trek universe.
When I started playing STO I borrowed my brothers dvd set of the TOS.....and while the stories held up, the general hokieness of late 60's tv sets and tech, left me wanting. If your a Treker/Trekie whatever, dont feel bad, as a kid I picked apart movies because they tried to substitute things that dont really exist anymore (like war movies using modern, at the time, tanks and trying to pass off as WW2 armor). Anyway, what I am saying is I really enjoyed the stories more than I thought I would, even with the 60's limitations.
So.... this led to me again borrowing/confiscating/invoking big brother privileges and got my bro's dvd sets of Enterprise, TNG, VOY, DS9, and watching them more or less in order.
I really enjoyed Enterprise because it was shot in digital so it looked wonderful in full HD, and yes the whole time travel thing was way over done but I really thought they were getting into gear in season 4, too bad they scrapped it.
But here is why I wanted to make this post. I have had to take about a month off gaming to assist my father who is now in the middle of a 3rd round of chemo and radiation so my gaming time has been limited of late, but I have been logging in for the weekly series. I enjoyed the 1st one and the 2nd has been outstanding..... even though I have been a little behind the release curve.
On Sunday, I was watching the TNG episode "Times Arrow" and when "Trollic Waves" (sp?) popped up I was like "Hey.....I know what those are......" and then Riker mentioned "Devidia II". So a lot of the things we see in the mission sets is taken directly from this 2 part episode, like the Blue flashes and the Trolic Wave Patern thingy we got after the 3rd mission (which the TNG crew set up in the cave to actually see the Dividians) and the snake head cane thing. Pretty cool huh?
If the Dev Crew can keep this up, then STO will thrive in the future. I continue to catch little references to this and that from the shows, and I am looking forward to watching the VOY and DS9 sets.
I'm in Season 3 of DS9 right now, and absolutely loving it. The DS9 missions in STO were so much fun I decided to watch the series start to finish (for the first time). I've seen all of Voyager and can't wait for them to release the delta quadrant.
Fortunately, i grew up on TNG. Trek is my religion as far as things go. When i notice little details the devs put into the game it really makes me enjoy it even more. It threw me right back to watching Times Arrow 1 & 2 with my family back when i was a kid. Good memories. Having this game stir them up is one of the reasons why i play it.
I pretty much grew up on TOS, though I spent my teenage years watching and loving TNG, with DS9 eventually becoming my favourite series of Trek. I adore how many references to all the shows can be found in game. Cryptic have definitely shown a passion for the show and their work. I can't wait to see where the game will go next.
Regarding Enterprise season 4... I completely agree. The writing team got some "new" blood, they learned some good lessons from the Xindi season arc, and FINALLY dropped the trash that was the temporal cold war. The series was so much better for it. Season 4 felt like actual Trek, and if most of Enterprise had been like it, I think we'd have had all 7 seasons. It's just a shame that those changes were brought in when it was pretty much too late to save the show Would have loved to have seen the Earth/Romulan war, the refit Enterprise and Shran become a member of Archer's crew...
I grew up on TNG and reruns of TOS and TAS. I love each of the shows, even ENT. TNG and DS9 are tied for favorite. One of the things I love is that I'll be doing a mission and go, "hey, I remember that!"
It makes for some fun times, and has even inspired me sometimes to watch a movie or an episode while I'm playing, so yeah great job Devs. I enjoy it immensely

Now ya know how Old Trek Dogs like me feel with every new tidbit the Dev's put in the game.
Star Trek was the first TV show my mom let me stay up past 8pm on a school night to watch (after begging and whining for hours before hand, I was only 7 at the time) and it's been a love/hate relationship ever since. (with both Mom & Star Trek)
watching the last few minutes of the devidian ep now.
I thought STNG was good when it first aired, but now, years later, there's not enuff "gunboat diplomacy". in fact, all post TOS eps are a little too touchiefeelie. there're no risks to be taken the way Kirk would have
