I am tired of seeing retrofit after retrofit, STO is supposed to be in the 25th century.
I can understand that people are crying after old ships, they looked certainly better than cryptics designs (except for the Star Cruisers ), but digging up old designs is no sollution. Cryptic designers should finally learn how to design good looking balanced starfleet ships.
AND NO ONE WANTS GAPS AND HOLES IN THEIR SHIPS!!!!*a subtle hint to cryptics designers
Ignoring for a moment the fact that the Dauntless wasn't a Starfleet ship at all, the ship was very under equipped. Mostly it was just a vehicle for the Quantum Slipstream Drive. Tores described it as a lean ship. This implies that it was good at going fast and not much else. I could however see Starfleet taking the design for the Dauntless and using it as inspiration for a new class, but they would probably need to rework some things.
Personally, given all the paces we've been running CaptLogan through adjusting the details to the cannon ships, I'm curious to see what he would come up with if opened to his own machinations.
weird cruiser thing... i'd prefere the typhoon and Vesta.
Do you have any idea how big the Achilles Class is supposed to be?
Whatever... these ships i posted, where just examples (you can add the vesta class if you like) for Cryptics designers, in what direction 25th century starfleets ships should be designed IMHO.
Well did i say how much i hate holes and gaps on ships (especially pylons)?

Instead of digging up old designs and modernize them, Cryptic should finally give us ships, that look like they where made 30 AFTER the sovereign.
I think what the OP was getting at was take the basic idea behind the Apollo, and create a version using newer parts. For example using the Sovereign or the Excalibur Saucer, with a single warp nacelle above and below, perhaps based on Sovereign or Excalibur or Vesper nacelles.
And honestly, when Cryptic talked about giving players ship customization back before the game launched, that is the sort of thing I expected to see, basically some mid-level kitbash tools that would allow players to create some new Saladins, Apollos, Ptolmeys and the like, but using modern parts.

Welll ...
The first one looks like someone stepped on a Soveriegn.
The second one looks like someone stepped on an Intrepid.
The third one just looks plain ugly.
Sleek? ... As sleek as a triangular mushroom.
The problem with those pictures is not that they are bad designs, but that the pictures do not do them justice. 3D objects are best viewed at angles not direct points.
I thought the One with the 4 Nacelle's looked very nice (think it was the 2nd ship the OP linked). As for mid-level tools to design our own ships, that would never happen. I agree it would be nice, and wish it would be something we could have, but lets be honest, this is an MMO. If you can't read between the lines there, to simply put it, an MMO is a business, cryptic is here to make money. As much as everyone balks at cryptic posting ship designs on the c-store for players to buy, I see tons of players buying the ship classes. So in other words this is one avenue for cryptic to make extra revenue. Adding ship customization tools would negate that revenue stream, so don't look for it to happen.
Instead you'll have to be happy with the "mid-level" tools you have now at the ship customization vendor. Honestly I'm pretty happy with the ships that have been released thus far (as far as the classes, excluding the skin issues and as a previous poster said the "holes" issue). I think your seeing retrofits now because cryptic is saving the newer designs for season 4 when they raise the cap, however thats just speculation on my part, but as spock would say a logical conclusion.

I have a theory that cryptic does intentionally design ugly ships so they can design more bad looking ships and sell them in the c-store.
These new ships are going to have 1 or maybe 2 nearly good looking parts, so everyone is going to jump at them, and Cryptics money bags are going fuller.
They can repeat selling those ships for eterinity.

Agreed. To hell with retrofits, come on Cryptic! Let's start makin' ships that belong at the front of the fleet, and not ones that have no other use than collecting survivors after the skirmish is over (The NX-01? Really? That thing still flies?)

dauntless... meh another escort

BTW, the excalibur class you showed earlier (2nd poster) is ENORMOUS. It dwarfs a sovereign.

i want the nacelles lol.. they look so cool

You could use the nacelles of the Vesta.:D

I believe that is the Typhoon.
