Plenty of people have been complaining about Night of the Comet being too difficult, so I have decided to post a short guide on how to complete it without wanting to smash your keyboard by the end of it. (Note: All keys mentioned in this guide are the default options. Adjust for whatever keys you've bound them to.)
First up: The Slingshot.
Really well thought-out, and fun... but also very frustrating if you're not used to high-speed flying.
So, here's a tip to make life lots easier: Open your map by pressing 'M' and move it to the center of your screen. You will be navigating entirely by the mini-map, just like the helm officer of the ship would be. Drag the map around until the planet is in the middle, but there's still room all the way around it for you to see the rings.
Now, head for the first one. Try to avoid mouse-steering if you can, because you may end up too high or too low, resulting in 'missing' the ring even though you went right through it.
As soon as you get through the first ring press 'Q' once to slow to 3/4 impulse. Your ship will still be going fast enough to hit the rings in time to not fail this step, but slow enough that you can steer easier and not overshoot a ring completely.
Try not to over-compensate on your turns, as you may find yourself in a poor position for the ring following the one you're trying to hit.
The rest of the mission is pretty simple and doesn't really require any help or guide, until it's time to destroy the comet.
Night of the Klingo-- err Night of the Comet is really easy if you pay attention to what spawns klingon ships; blowing up the comet! So, what you do on this step is pretty simple..
The Comet (Option 1): Disable B'vat's ship, and take out the D7s that are with him. Attack the comet.. now, you see more Klingons spawning? sTOP attacking the comet and take out the ships that warped in. Now, return to the comet... stop and take out the ships that warp in, return to the comet, repeat until no more comet!
The Comet (Option 2): Ignore the Klingons and go straight for the comet, get blown up, respawn, attack comet, get blown up, respawn, attack comet, repeat until no more comet. Not advised above normal difficulty unless you're going for the ship injury accolades.
I hope all the folks out there that found this episode more frustrating than fun have the chance to play through it again using the above methods, as they will actually be able to enjoy it as it was intended. It's really a fantastic episode if you can play it without getting so frustrated that you want to give up!
Nice, but for most people, it may be easier to hit the rings by just zooming into their ship as much as possible and mouse-flying, without using the minimap.
Let me just say, having 5 different Alts, all at different levels and with different ship types...
Those rings suck donkey balls. So my solution is to start out at the first ring and a little over HALF full impulse. In case you don't know how this is done:
Hit 'Full impulse'... you speed up and so does your engine power. Just take your mouse and click near the middle of your accelarator and even though it SAYS your in full impulse, your actually traveling half the speed. Just don't attempt the rings at any LOWER than half, because it registers as you having missed a ring and you have to start over.

Having successfully done the slingshot on five or six characters, and having experimented with various entry speeds I can say this: It does not matter whether you're at full impulse or not when you hit the first ring. Once you go through the first ring, you're always going to be moving at the same speed, regardless of full impulse being on or off, . The only difference it makes is psychological.
The Comet (Option 2): Ignore the Klingons and go straight for the comet, get blown up, respawn, attack comet, get blown up, respawn, attack comet, repeat until no more comet. Not advised above normal difficulty unless you're going for the ship injury accolades.
Comet option 3: Attack run to wipe a couple of pieces, zoom off away from D7s, re-prep, repeat.
I never shot at any of them after the initial two (on the assumption that that would be changing history.)
Also, if you throttle down to 3/4 after the first ring you do move slower. But if you go down to 1/2 you are too slow.
Option 4: Take a G-X or Defiant Refit and play cat and mouse by using your cloak. Shoot at the comet. Once Klingons get close, cloak. They'll get bored and fly off. Decloak and fire away again. Rinse and repeat...
I found the rings were not hard using my Xbox 360 controller; it's really a nice way to fly.
Second on the stealthy cloak method. I was getting vaporized in my refit Defiant until I decided to minimize my effect on the timeline by drawing the Klingons off, cloaking, then zipping back to make some comet dust.
Where is the guide on how to make the drink? In case anyone had trouble with that...
I believe it was
-hot
-sour
-stemmed glass
-The middle option on amount of alcohol (I forget how they worded it...basically not too much, not too little)
-honey garnish

Yeah, it wasn't really that hard. Especially when she tells you what you messed up.
With a Fleet Escort At full speed on medium difficulty there's no problems with the rings.
with a Retro Excelsior At full impuls on Hard mode no difficulty too with the rings.
In fact, even at full speed, the rings are really easy to pass.
Medium or Hard mode, the only part a bit hot is the end of the mission where you must destroy the meteor.
Kite options with D7 at comet are also viable but need some thinking... power switching and proper skill usage, strange that someone mentioned cloack, in BoP cloack doesn't stop D7 to follow me, and you know... it has radius, so if they came closer cloack is not working anymore.

You are correct HB, though the middle option is "A little pick-me-up should do the trick" when the bartender asks how strong you want it.
On two occasions when doing this part of Night of the Comet ("Reliving The Past" is buying a drink for that dumb bimbo to whom it never occurred that a Klingon border outpost would be fatal) I had the Pick up Drink option but didn't work. I had to go behind the counter next to the bartender, stand in front of the torch-looking thingy on the corner before I could hit the F key.
Destroying the Comet is best taken one part at a time: Disable B'vat's ship and his D7 escort (they start leaking green plasma at about 21% shields), then take aim at the comet. The main comet shatters into 3 fragments. Disable the two D7s that show up.
Then you need to destroy all 3 fragments, but they shatter into smaller shards. At certain points (mostly after you destroy shards one and two) more D7s show up. Disable them before continuing. It's a lot of button-mashing *sighs*
More tips on completing the scenario:
* Make sure your ship is completely healed before taking on the next comet piece!
* Have a hull heal and shield regen slotted into your BOffs. Make use of them often.
* One of my favorite weapons is the High-yield torpedo (any level) so that comes in handy too.
* Sure your character can attack the comet first, but you'll die a lot of times when you are mobbed by about ten D7s at once. How's that any fun?
Thanks a ton everyone It's easy when you know how.

Accolade achieved!
