Melee Weapons Request Thread.

I was just watching ST:ENT Season 3 Episode 1, The Xindi.

In it, one of the MACOs used a Stun Baton to fend off an attacker with Melee, and some kind of Stun Gun like extension to finally knock her attacker out.

With the dearth of melee weapons in the game, I think this should be one of the ones the Devs should be working on. It could have a basic melee attack for it's primary "fire" a stun for it's secondary, and a knock-back for it's third option (like the left, right, and knock-back of the Bat'Leth).

Right now, it's just the Bat'leth for PCs, and a smattering of Klingon, & Jem'Hadar melee weapons for NPC's.

Any suggestions for other Melee Weapons? And please, let's not make them weapons from Star Trek Video Games, Novels, or Comic Books, let's keep suggestions from the Shows and Movies, after all, those are the properties Cryptic has full rights to. :)

Well there's of course a variety of Klingon daggers, like the one used to kill David in Search for Spock. I believe you can make that appear with an emote, so it's in game already.

    +1
It is what we need on Fed side... I have a Klingon just to equip away teams with bat'lets

(Klingons PvE is something that is needed also... so this alt will not be only for buying bat'lets and play weekly episodes)

Don't the Breen in the game use some kind of stun baton? Maybe I was seeing things.
Anyway, I too would like to see more melee weapons, I get sick of seeing bat'leths everywhere. Why can't we just use a good old fashioned sword, like Sulu did that one time? (or twice if you count the new movie)

Ok, what kind of differences between it's three fire modes? All the long-arms used the third one for what the Marines call a "Vertical Butt Stroke" (Yes, I'm Serious, that's what they call it, my fiance's a Marine) while the sidearms use pistol whips.

What should the D'k tahg do? Obviously the first attack should be a slash or stab, what about the second, or the third?

I've seen Klingons with Mek'leth during an Exploration mission as well. It should function differently than the D'k tahg, don't you think?

Vertical butt stroke, ey? lol That's the sexiest thing ever said in a Star Trek forum, ever lol :D

Well, I would offer a range of attack speeds, going from dagger being the quickest, to batleth being the slowest, with the mekleth in the middle.

Possibly add a move for all of them which does extra damage or a higher chance to crit if you're attacked from behind or flanked.

I'd give each melee weapon 3 attacks, with different damage. Something like:

1 - Chop (which would be an overhead chop and do the most damage, but be the slowest attack)
2 - Slice (which would be a sideways slice, less damage than chop, but a little faster)
3 - Thrust (which would be a forward stabbing motion, less damage again but the fastest.

I mean, in all honestly there's no reason this couldn't be taken all the way as a game mechanic. Maybe stabbing with a particular weapon does more damage than chopping, or slicing might do the most damage with another weapon, depending on the design of the weapon of course. I'm by no means a weaponologist but I know that a lot of thought goes into designing melee weapons for maximum killing power for the least exertion.

And then of course you could get armour that's really effective against stabbing but not so effective against the crushing blows of an overhead chop for example, bringing a whole slew of new armour stats into the game.

    Ferangi Whips are handy.

They can even be inventive with new ideas. Or go back to core earth weapons as well. Fencing blades would be handy. Though I'd like it if with crafting we can applying and energy type to them.... Like plasma.

    Rare Katana [Pla] [Dmg]

On topic: I like swords (Earth katanas for all the Sulu fans out there).

Off Topic: I think melee combat should be more about the clickable skills you can do, rather than a variety of weapons that all do basically the same thing. If there are new weapons, they should 'feel' different when playing with them. I want my Science Officer to be able to punch kick, throw, disarm, rifle butt, stun, or parry an attack at any time by clicking different buttons. I see Jadzia do things without any weapons in her hands that I wish I could do too...

Don't forget that unarmed and Bat'leth also have combos attached to them. This NEEDS to be continued and is one of the most fun parts of melee. All new weapons should have melee combos and unique traits like a Lirpa having a lot of longer range and AoE attacks and the Dual Mek'leth having big flurries or something. Also Scotty's Claymore and Sulus Rapier and and new Sulu's Katana and such.

    Agreed.

There have been a few times where I wished I could throw, or kick an enemy.

I just realised that no Star Trek melee combat would be complete without Kirk's horizontal jump kick. I demand Cryptic add it to the game!

lol I saw him do a wicked (and by wicked I mean so bad it was laugh out loud funny) combo when he was surrounded by a Romulan boarding party. I wish I could remember which episode that was.

I'd like to see a Romulan Honor Blade and a Mirror Universe dagger added to the melee weapons.

    USSSSHHAAAAAAAANNN!!

I think the Romulans ought to have some kind of sword weapon, considering how much they boast about S'harien's swords.

First, let us remember we are not WoW or Star Wars. No flaming sword, or laser blades. But if we are going to spout ideas, lets try and be productive, and give them a certain amount of completeness. Like take the only Melee weapon ingame, and use that as a template. It has two main attacks, and a knockback, along with the combos. (Which are 1-2-1, 1-1-2, and 1-2-2 or 2-1-2, 2-2-1 and 2-1-1, doesn't matter)

So, what I would like to add, is (no surprises here) The Daq'tagh, and Mek'leth. The Daq'tagh is more of a Stabbing weapon, where as the Mek'leth is a slashing one, designed to make the enemy bleed a lot. (On a side not, it would be nice if Cryptic would has the slash and bleed debuffs from Champions) So maybe, something like this:

    Daq'tagh

    1-Slash
    2-Jab
3-Punch with left hand ??? (knockback)

    Combos
    1-2-1=Rapid multiple slashes (Expose)

    1-2-2=STAB (Exploit)

1-1-2=A quick yes decisive slice horizontally blade held outward, presumably for the throat... (exploit)

    Mek'leth

    1-Slice left
    2-slice right
3-Punch with left hand ??? (knockback)

    Combos
    1-2-1=Upward blow (Expose)

    1-2-2=Downward Chop (Exploit)

1-1-2=Three Consecutive strikes. One straight across, one angled down, then back angled back up the same way...
