I honestly didn't know that they had made ship interiors available until last night. I was on the bridge of my escort spending skill points (didn't want to get sucked into a DSE while doing so) and I ran around just for fun. When I got near the turbolift it opened!
So I spent some time running around the ship. I guess that Star Fleet has a tech trading agreement with Gallifrey because for a defiant class ship the inside was enormous!
It was cool, but I wonder if in the future they'll make various interiors for differnt classes of ships. An escort feels wierd having the same gigantic engine room as a cruiser. (Though its not a deal breaker, there are other things I'd rather see fixed before that)
If you go to a station (ESD, K7 etc) and got to the ship customization npc, you can choose between large med, and small interior layout. By default, I think all ships use the med setting. I changed it to the small layout for my defiant.

This does not change the size of the rooms, only the length of the corridors. So even if you choose the small layout, it may take you 2 seconds to get from the turbolift to the engine room, but the engine room is still going to be the same size as any of the other layouts, which is GINORMOUS.
Well they look great but everyone was screaming before they even got put in the game make them useful. That's is still on a lot of people list. As far as Cryptic got was the trophies and the doors opening before it got put on hold. They hinted it might get overhaul in the upcoming Foundry / UGC system. no details.
