Addressing the currently perceived PVP issues

solution dont pvp with klingons no more just fed vs fed.
Read this in another thread, and you know what? Sadly this is the way I'm inclined - I feel 'retrofits' have got a tad out of hand.

When they were first introduced we got a few nice gimmicks, saucer seperation, cloak, hull armour. These could all be game changing used right but didn't out and out change how PVP played. The excelsior has a different officer setup to a typical cruiser but it's 'power'is in it's Transwarp Drive, and the Nebula, well to be honest I've yet to see a Tachyon net used so I'm not sure how powerful that actually is.

The new BoP is awesome, with all the cloak detection strategies out there a decent player should have no problems making this thing turn into the new fireworks emote if they want to do so.

Now, the carriers in themselves never used to be a problem, they were tough as hell and could throw out a decent number of pets but never really dominated anything too badly, however since the big carrier update things have changed.

Carriers can spam a big old pile of pets, now while this pets are potentially destructive, they're relatively soft, so you take them down, CSV, BFAW, TS, whatever it takes, but trouble is time you have, the carriers got a new batch heading out the door, add to that anywhere between 5 and 16 mines at the same time and you've got a hell of a lot of targets to cycle through, if you're hit with scramble sensors heaven forbid you try and lock back on afterwards! lol.

Now with the latest retrofits there's some awesome ideas there, the repair platform in particular I like, however adding up to another 10-15 targettable objects on the Klingon side makes hitting your actual target even more difficult, and I believe the Orion and Gorn ships both have deployables?

So what's the answer? Well the way I see it is this - keep this ships how they are, and adjust hte gameplay slightly. The problem with carriers isn't that they 'work badly' - I'm not their biggest fan, but still. We need something along hte lines of "Target enemy capital ship" to allow us to target cycle to a PC ship rather than that lone photon mine floating in the abyss of space. This could still be messed up by scramble sensors but would allow players to ignore the little buggers they don't want to focus on, after all, in the 25th century surely we can tell the difference between a sparrow and a Boeing 747 on the sensors?

Give it some thought Cryptic - the dominance of FvF over FvK these days is worrying, and something needs to happen to address that.

Just bumping this up to prove a point. Try and pick a target out of that lot. I dare you. ;-)

I've done a bit of Space PvP and I'm convinced that a lot of Federation players do not know how to communicate and focus fire a target. Going 4-3 vs Klinks and then losing the match 4-15 does not make for good play.

Agreed, there are many teams like that, where someone (statistically an escort, occasionally a cruiser) will blast off at full impulse and insist in trying to solo the enemy. But even on the best built teams the issues I mention are valid, I play with a good fleet, we're not pvp obsessed like some but we are good at what we do, we can clean house with a lot of fed teams and communicate well over VoIP, but when a couple or the carriers are throwing huge numbers of pets with the likes of scramble sensors it does become incredibly hard to manage.

I'm not here to complain, I actually like how carriers work at the minute, I think they're a fun gameplay option, but I would like to see something done to make it less of an issue to target, I mean even as a Klingon player - how many kvk games do you see? I suspect not as many as you used to, why? Because the fun is being sucked right out. I'll be honest, if I wasn't a life timer, I'd be seriously consisting whether to make my next monthly payment.

Frankly, I have quit FvK PvP until carrier spam is dealt with. My issue is not with carriers themselves, or even the number of pets. What bothers me is that the pet spam is so bad, it becomes impossible to see or target real player ships. Essentially I end up playing PvE while getting shot by live Klingon players that I can never target.

Carriers are potentially important to the Klingons to provide cover for and a decoy to occupy the Federation players. Theoretically with fighters around, it gives the Klingons more opportunities to take advantage of their cloaks.

Until there is a key or command that ignores mines, pets, and NPCs, along with a matching command to exclusively target the former, I will not be doing FvK anymore. As it is now, the Klingons have a structural advantage that the Federation can not match and have no in game mechanic to overcome.

I have to agree that there are far tooo many Targets out there to select, I have the same problem with Mine and or Photonic Fleet Spam from the Feds...

Also I know some Klingons do take advantage of the confusion the Carrier Pets add so on top of that some of the Carriers will lay tons of Mines to add to the mess of things

With the amount of Targets out there you could hit Tab all day long and still not select your target in time... we need something to help us select Player Ships and something to select the Mines, NPCs and Carrier Craft ect... separately... like hitting Tab alone will Target Player ships only and then you have the Tilde key "~" to select Space Objects like Mines, Carrier Craft, NPCs, space junk what ever else...

The number of Selectable Objects in PvP is far out of hand
