Tier 5:
Oberth Type II (Bigger, somewhat different looking, modern, new class BASED on the old one and not a refit)
(Rank up mark, C-Store or Hundreds of some random mark)
Oberth was the ship that got the least amount of votes in the poll. I imagine it'll be some time before we see it in the game, but I do expect to see it as the starter level "science" ship at some point.
name 1 episode where the oberth actually did somthing... now... name a episode where one hasnt been, blown up, crew dead or missing, stuck in rocks, crew all sexed up

Nah, it'll be out before the Ambassador. As I've said in that past, that ship is the ******* child of Star Trek. At least the Oberth is shown doing something (blowing up usually). I think the Ambassador is shown in 3 or 4 episodes, and only one of them for more than 5 or so seconds.
I like the Oberth. It'd be a nice complement to the Miranda.*
No need for a T5 design, though. From where I'm standing, the Oracle-class is the direct successor to the Oberth.
*: In fact, I'd even support moving the Refit-Constitution to this tier, so that the Excalibur does appear as more advanced and capable. This way, we'd have Connie, Miranda and Oberth as starter ships (a nice combination of vessels from a past era), all depending on the player's chosen career.**
**: Expanding on this, the Centaur could move to Tac-T2, nudging the Saber to T3, which would in turn make it possible to move the Akira into the cruiser category ... okay okay I'll stop here.
Oberth as a starter ship makes sense, but I hope they put it off for a while and work on ships people will actually use for more than 2 days. Look how much time they spent on the NX, and it's more of a frill item than anything.

You do realize there are people out there that are VA and still running around in their Mirandas and Centaurs right? Matter of fact, I believe there's a fleet out there that only uses the TOS Connie.

Yeah, I know. But its not a LOT of people, so 99.99% of players WON'T use it past LtCmdr1 save for a bit of nostalgia every so often. I'd probably be one of them.
My point is... it just seems a bit of a waste to make starter ships when there are SO many other ships needing to be made right now. The NX is okay because its one of the "stars" of Trek. The Oberth... isn't.
I hope eventually they put some effort into making refits so these costumes don't dwell unused in the ship list, along with a lot of the other lower tier ships)
I'm really glad that the NX is going to be a starter ship. I've gotten tired of making alts, and having to play the Miranda all the time. Since the NX is going to be a starter escort, having the Oberth be a starter science ship would be great.
Oberth as the starter science ship would really round out that tier, especially if they keep it out of the C-store and make it an actual choice at the start of the game.
As I mentioned in the thread on the NX-Class ship, I would be fine with seeing an Oberth as a Science starter variant. I was actually kinda shocked that it wasn't in the game already as it was already an established ship class.
And there's nothing wrong with adding more options at lower tiers. You can only grind so many alts on a Miranda or Constitution before you are demanding more to work with.
With the NX-Class, we'll finally have an Escort to go with the Connie Cruiser and basic freebie starter ship. It only makes sense to see a Science variant...this would be the perfect match.

In the same time, in the futur, we can have a Oberth Retrofit Tier 6
As the NX is soon to be offered (via C-store) as a T0 Escort, I suppose that makes Miranda out to be the T0 Cruiser? With Miranda alone I was never quite certain where she fit. If I'm correct Oberth is, IMO, the logical next step for a T0 Science Vessel.
When that happens is anyone's guess. I suspect that will play into whatever becomes of the Tutorial after Season 3 is released.
Anyone who names their ship Saratoga or is in an Oberth, if they come out, should get an automatic 'death at the beginning of a mission to show the moment is tense...' If your Oberth is named Saratoga... it should blow up upon leaving space dock.
I'm still waiting on a star cruiser that isn't hideous myself. Not quite sure what class can fill that role offhand though.
Yeah not a fan of those myself, though Ive seen some decent ones via mix-n-match. I want one with some angular pylons and sections.
The Vesta is a lot like the Star cruisers, but its smaller and supposed to be an advanced science ship.. but it can maybe inspire another Starcruiser skin as well.
I'm just not a fan of the flattened out and stretched ship classes that kind of started with the Intrepid. I think that's where my dislike of the star cruisers stems from.
I'm thinking something more like the Odysseus class or Ulysses class from StarFleet Command...only larger and a more modern version of it.
The Oberth is on the short list of Fed ships we want in the game asap.
Some other Fed ships that we want...
- Ambassador (probably will be a Galaxy Variant)
- Vesta
- Andorian
and then the Fan submitted next Enterprise which will be decided by a contest starting up in the US sometime in December.
I was upset the Ambassador wasn't in the game to begin with, and on top of that, you released the Excelsior before the Ambassador. Logically it should follow a cruiser progression as follows:
Please no. The Ambassador is way too small to be a variant of the Galaxy.
And this. According to size, the Ambassador is smaller (around 100 meters smaller) than the Galaxy. A Galaxy-variant, it is not. If you want variants on the Galaxy, look to the Springfield Class (currently not ingame).

Is there any way you could possibly get this opened up to those outside of America? By my admittedly extremely limited knowledge of US law (there would obviously be more to it than I know) So long as its explicitly stated in no uncertain terms that the submitter forfeits all rights to the design if it is chosen and so long as there is no monetary value to the 'prize' of being chosen it should allow it to be opened up in many other countries. As said my understanding is limited but I believe those are the two biggest things for most US based contests open to people outside the US. Guarantee you'd get a lot of interest.

With the advent of adding the NX-01 as a "Tier 0" ship, you would effectively have all of the Enterprises available on every tier.

You have a problem though, Tier0 is what we know as Tier1, its the starter ships.
Currently:
Tier1: Miranda/TOS Connie
Tier2: Constitution Refit + Excalibur and Vesper
Tier3: Cheyenne/Stargazer and Excelsior
Tier4: Galaxy
Tier5: Sovereign and the Star Cruisers
It probablt doesn't make much sense to move the ships around in tiers, so here is what I suggest:
Ambassador: T4 (with a T5 refit option, maybe sharing Excelsior refit stats)
If they need to round out T2 with another cruiser-type, the Constellation class would work (though I could see flipflopping Excelsior and Constellation, because Excelsior is technically an older design, and that would make the "hull types" line up correctly)

Im still mad about the NX Class....
Wut?
I listed the Oberth as a starter ship.
Also the NX class is a starter ship.

Then, all ships beyond would be "modern".
And I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a "modern" take on the Oberth either, similar to the Excalibur being a take on the Constitution Class.

Unless he means it'll be a tier 4 alternate, in much the same way that the Excelsior is to the Cheyenne-class.
Man what a day. Careful, Mr Stahl, you're going to spoil us after today
As a Galaxy variant, do you mean the captain one, or the retrofit one?
Its closer in size to the Excelsior (but with the profile of a Galaxy, the original design was supposed to be a fusion of the 2)
