Tier 0. This is the ship you get BEFORE you play....

I'm having a little difficulty understanding you point. What does the NX being T0 have to do with future T6 ships (possibly available when they raise the level cap to 61)?

As a T0 ship the NX will be weaker then the current T1 starter ships. It will be around the level of a runabout.

I agree. Seems to me the Devs have found a happy medium. Get the ship in the game, but make it basically a vanity item because it is 200 years out of date.

Edit: Though I would love to see a 5-on-5 NX PvP battle....

I'm glad they saw it that way.

I personally wish it had been a T1 starter ship. I think the game needs more starter options. After 10 alts I'm quite tired of my Miranda triad or TOS Constitution; and there's no way I could use the T0 in some of those early missions. It'd never withstand the beating from the Undyine dreadnoughts in P'jemm and Lackey.

With our weird internal naming convention tier 0 IS a starting ship. We don't start counting tiers internally until you can get your first class specific ship.

So if you scoop this ship up, you can use it instead of the miranda or constitution and it wont be gimped.

Well, that's very good to know then. Thanks! I'll be spending some points on it for sure now. :)

At least it's not tier 5. Now if only we could get rid of the Tier 5 Excelsior...

The excelsior doesn't really bother me. The Lakota refit nearly held its own against the defiant (the defiant being the hero of the story so it had to win). If I can accept a T5 defiant I can accept a T5 excelsior; though I'm not fond of the excelsior's Lt. Cmdr tactical spot. It makes it too much better then the sovereign, IMO.

Here are a few details about it:

Like the constitution gets an extra engineering console slot, this ship gets an extra tactical console slot.

It has a special innate "grappling hook" power that behaves similarly to tractor beam, but has a cool new effect.

Since we consider this ship to be our tier 0 escort for feds, it also gets to equip cannons.

Cannons? Very cool. It should be a lot of fun to fly. Can't wait to see the grappler too. :)

I can accept it because there is an example in canon of an Excelsior class ship holding its own with a Defiant class ship. In the episode the Defiant was going to win (partly due to it being the "good guys'" ship, partly because of the Klingon commander) but it was close to a draw. But I think making the NX an optional starter ship is something I can live with.

I updated the post so I wouldnt cause confusion. That's an extra tactical console slot, not officer slot.

I've analyzed that battle to death. The fact is the Lakota had it easy. The Defiant didn't take any action besides going in a straight line for about a minute. No evasive actions. No weapons. Nothing. They literally let themselves be rammed over and over by the Lakota's phaser beams.

About a minute into the battle they started the battle. Lakota got a free punch, then about 10 more free punches. Neither ship used their quantum torpedoes and by the end it was quoted in canon as the Lakota being in much worse shape, an attack away from being destroyed and they had a ton more casualties. They would have lost STILL after all those free hits.

    Tier 5? What a joke.

I knew what you meant. I have a cruiser captain and right now I have a science captain. So now I have a reason to create an escort captain.

Very very nice... might start another fed just to fly it. Wish there was something cool like this for the KDF.

All that means nothing. If the show had been about the Lakota rather then the Defiant the Lakota would have won the same way. In a battle where we only see around 10 seconds of actual combat and the rest is all bridge talking it's pretty hard to say how anything goes.

Anyway, this thread's not about the excelsior; and I'm certainly not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine so why waste the energy? :)

You forget the "Character Shield." It protects the main characters of the show from actual harm. It also protects the ship they are in. If the DS9 crew were in the Lakota, the script would have been the opposite.

Considering the KDF are basically Lt 6 before they ever get to their ship it doesn't seem overly beneficail to waste time on a new starter ship for Klinks when they'll be upgrading to the next tier after a couple of hours of play. :)

No, really it's not hard to know what went on. The Defiant literally made no actions for at least a minute (possibly more due to how TV works). They continued on their set course. My documentation is accurate.

Plus if the thing was about the Lakota is irrelevant. You take into consideration what you know and see. You don't take "what if"s as anything at all.

I'm not going to change my mind because I base this all on facts and logic. You won't change yours because you base yours purely on stubbornness and CandyLand (that's right, the board game).

    ;)

A Tier 0 ship? That's awesome! We needed another starter ship. I was getting tired of the Miranda and TOS Connie. That's really smart Cryptic. I'll definitely be getting one.
