Im sure that a lot of this has already been said, but I fear that the foundry will be too limited at first. Just a cookie cutter way to re-arrange and repackage current missions.
Here are a few of the things I would love to be able to do:
Create missions on a players ship. For instance: you are moving through sector space, when you suddenly drop out of warp. From the bridge, you find a console and contact engineering to see what happened. You get static. So, you go to the turbo lift and go down to Engineering. Once in Engineering, you see npcs running here and there and you approach your Chief Engineer. He tells you that a field coil is damaged and he needs parts from 4 different cargo bays on 2 different decks to replicate a new coil. You find these parts and return with them to engineering. You arrive in engineering only to find half of the staff on the floor suffering from radiation sickness. So, you leave the parts with the mysteriously unaffected Chief Engineer, and you go to sickbay to get hypos to deal with the radiation sickness. When you get back to Engineering, you inoculate the affected crew members. Only after the final sick crew member is cured does your Engineer tell you that Warp drive will be back on line in 5 minutes. You leave engineering; take the turbo lift to the bridge. When you get to the bridge, the mission is over and the ship is ready to warp again.
Create a liberate the base mission where there are ACTUALLY NPCs to liberate. Like, Orion slavers holding 5 groups of colonists hostage. You have to find the 5 groups, eliminate the guards, then set the hostages free. However, unlike current ground missions, when you return to your ship, you still have to defeat the fleet of Orion Slave ships that just warped into the system to pick up the colonists that you just liberated. Personally, I like the idea of combining ground and space combat missions.
Create find the creature mission. In this mission, you are contacted by Starfleet medical and asked to capture a specific create native to a specific planet. You must transport to said planet, check 4 to 6 possible hiding placed for this creature and STUN it. NOT kill it. Once stunned, you place it in stasis and deliver it to a Starbase where it will have venom extracted to cure some disease. Additionally, there should be other creatures on this planet that we have to avoid or stun when they jump out and attack us. There would also be other NPC creatures visible that ignore us completely. The current planets we survey are just too sterile for my taste.
Similar to the find the creature mission, Id like to be able to Create a find the fugitive mission. Like when we were trying to find Drake when we were at the Commander Rank. We would have to travel to 2 or 3 star systems and scan a planet or two and/or moons to look for this fugitives life-signs. When we find him/her, we transport down and have to capture them and return them to a Starbase or Penal colony.
I am cautiously optimistic about Foundry. I hope I can create the aforementioned types of missions. But, I get the feeling that I am going to be disappointed.
