That Caitian Jump bonus is a hidden Over Powered trait (when used properly). In PvP ground maps you can get places non-Caitians can't get and snipe from there...
Yeah, when doing Otha a few months ago on my Klingon Tactical, I ran into one of the Fister Sisters on a Catiain, on top of one of the Borg Buildings, sniping. I had fun though, one good shot with my sniper rifle and knocked her off the roof.
But yes, some more alien features would be nice for the alien creator. I wanted my Federation Alien Tactical Captain to be reptilian (not as much as the Gorn, but have similar traits), but there is no such options for snouts, claws, frills, or even reptilian / saurian tails.

Getting up there had nothing to do with being caitlin. Anyone could do it. Then they nerfed jump/roll. Now no one can do it.
I do love the current Caitians...they are based off of the movies however it would be nice
to make a Animated series style one as well.
That would be easy enuff
If you just add the following to the Unknown alien creation choices
Pounce as a skill
Current caitian tails
That is all that is needed...the rest is already there for a comic/STA style Caitian
Just a thought
Meow
Got to agree with this.
The current Caitians are very convincing and realistic; but you have to spare a thought for why people wanted them in the first place.
Let's be honest here; Caitians are popular mostly because of M'Ress. Not being able to make a character that looks even remotely like her sort of defeats the point IMHO.
Wait, what Star Trek movies had cat people? I was always opposed to them being in game because I thought they were Animated Series only and thus not canon. Can someone tell me which movie (and scene) cat people are in?
I kinda like darth vader
Most of the people I run into that don't like the Lyrans and Kzinti (now lumped into one race called Caitians) prolly never played SFB either, and most have a wierd sense of this thing called cannon that changes everytime someone makes a new movie or a tv show needs some ratings...
I really didn't understand all the resistance to the Catians, IDIC and all that.
Well, there is a certain prejudice against this species which is only strengthened by the occasional Caitian running around in miniskirts and bellyfree tops with the "Cute" stance and names like "P'urr" and such.
It should be noted that there's also a lot of Human or Nearhuman characters strolling through ESD in questionable outfits (and just look at the poll results concerning clothes), but I suppose they don't stand out as much, as people are used to Human bikini babes from the everyday real world. But you rarely get to see a Caitian that actually plays like a Caitian (judging by what we have seen in the movies and common sense) instead of falling into the clich

My personal theory is that many fans are very guarded about Trek and anything that's a window for a larger fandom (or diametrically different) to swoop in.
Hm, good point. I'd also say it depends on how "pushing" the respective fandom is, though - i.e. if they rub it into your face. But of course you have intolerant people and trolls in every sub-group of any community, and it can be easy to fall in line with either side once the conflict breaks out.
Well, on the bright side with orion women in a bikini (basically) I guess the pressure is off
something new to hate....lol
Although bikini Orions are canon - bikini Caitians ... not so much.
It's also an issue of sexuality, of course. I think people across the board will agree that barely clothed Orions are "hawt", hence the majority will allow them great leeway when it comes to showing off skin - and not only because that's just how they roll. So they have it a lot easier. Caitians, on the other hand, are essentially walking cats (their name alone already hints at this), so the response will be far more "contrasted". Especially when some of these characters try to show off their "goods" in a manner similar to the more humanoid species.
Personally, I totally dig Gorn, which are basically lizardmen and thus animalistic as well, but at the end of the day "furry" or "scaly" are simply things that not everyone likes, and some may even feel offended by. With the Gorn it's notably less difficult as they do not try to be "cute" but rather fall into the masculine zone, emanating strength, potency and "coolness" rather than looking as if they'd want to cuddle you any second. Hence my criticism towards using the aforementioned body stance rather than something more neutral or even aggressive:
Sexualizing the Caitians will likely be interpreted as imposing one's own preferences upon others and met with ignorance to hostility if the audience does not share this kink. Which is not that different from the core issue of the NX-debate, when you think about it. We all influence each other's gameplay experience, even if it's just by our appearances.
But I admit, I'm not even sure what kind of clothes Caitians should truly wear. With all the fur I'd think they would be uncomfortable wearing anything at all, so that it might seem fitting having them run around "naked" with just a utility belt and maybe a loincloth. But regardless of whether it's Chewbacca-style or the opposite (standard duty uniform as shown in the movies), the middle way a la "cute girly kittycat in miniskirt" does look kind of weird.
Geez, this has become way longer than intended. But I hope it serves as an explanation as to why a segment of the playerbase seems to be sceptical towards this species. In the end, whether the player of a Caitian character wants to reinforce and play within the negative clich
Me? I think it's Star Trek if you've got random security personnel dying, sexy green people, rocking bridges, scientists in space pajamas, phasers, tribbles, Klingons and starships with saucers and nacelles. And those kind of things trump everything else because they're the Trek that everyone knows and nobody can disagree with without DISLIKING Trek pretty actively.
Totally agree with you here. If it's seen on the screen it's fair game for STO, as long as it doesn't stretch believability too far. While I have things that I don't ever want to see in the game, I'm at least open-minded enough to let some things slide (T0 NX-Class being one of them). Some people just don't want peanut butter in their chocolate....mmmmm, chocolate peanut butter.
And I really hate the "furry" debate. Some of us who actually like cat-people or dog-people or lizard-people or whatever aren't all sexually aroused by it.

Sadly, the ones who are aroused by those sort of things tend to be the most vocal, visible, and/or defensive about it. It gives the genuinely good people among their kind very, very pad press, and then you get overly generalized furry hate fires blazing to the sky.
What it really comes down to is, and correct me if I'm wrong, the biggest sources of Trek info agree that TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and all the films are considered canon. TAS and any books, etc otherwise are not.

Roddenberry's assistant nixed TAS. Many of the writers and some actors objected to this; I think Nimoy went so far as to say that canon wasn't worth paying attention to and that quality stories, wherever they were, were what counted.
Writers for later shows started dropping in tons of TAS references as soon as Roddenberry's guy was axed. I believe the statement from Paramount licensing was that parts of TAS counted, including "Yesteryear."
CBS took control in the reorganization and declared TAS canon via their website. Roddenberry's assistant tried to claim that the website didn't count and was just a thirdhand licensee like the comic publishers but was promptly shut down when it turned out that the site is official and not licensed.

I second this.
Gorn head and feet...Caitian facial features, Ferengi as well
However, racial skills...like pounce and prob the Caitian tail, Bajorian earrings and such
should not present a problem.
That said, if you buy a premium race, then any item that is not going to cause a graphics
issue should also be added to your alien creator
on the plus side, that makes buying them more attactive...more money for cryptic, more parts for
us...a win win situation.
almost forgot....meow

Devs, listen to this quote this is the way to go. So if I own that unique race it should have been there in Alien Creator.
Got to agree with this.

Here is one, and Here is the other.
Thanks for that. Hmm, crazy. I want a playable pedobear race at this rate. Cat people will always be a third rate race in my book.
But...thats not canon..
I really didn't understand all the resistance to the Catians, IDIC and all that.
I think it stems from the fact that many different Trekies have thier own idea what Trek is and is not.
Some consider STA Trek...others no
Heck, there are a BUNCH of Trekies that say the new Star Trek movie, is not Trek
When Voyager came out, a bunch said the heck with that
So it is rather normal
Well at least MOST Trekies agree....Darth Vader and Big Bird are not Trek...I hope.

No they are not.... But R2-D2 and the Millenium Falcone are Trek!!!
Every single piece of every alien doesnt fit together, and just getting it to look right would take a ton of modeling time.
I would like to offically throw my support behind this type of alien. Why let Total Recall get all the attention for this feature?

I think she had four but I'm not sure...
They could open up sliders and the parts that DO work. I think that would be a nice longterm goal, especially with the Foundry in mind.
