Then why don't you play on normal? You won't even NEED armor for normal difficulty.
And defending weak structures adds another layer of depth to the missions. It becomes more than just pew pew pew I win.
I'm loving the new missions. The combat feels much more lively and engaging than the old style of entering a system and attacking enemies at a static point in the map.
I think the reason I like it is because the old method, had a very offensive feel to it. Like Starfleet was going on the attack and shooting first and not asking questions.
But this new methodolgy of combat is very much what I would expect a Starfleet officer to encounter. A ship in distress or a starbase / deterium station that sends out a distress call, and the enemies come out of no where, guns blazing. It justifies the decision to attack, because you were shot at without provocation.
It's changes like this which are doing wonders for the overall ambience of the game, and giving it the long overdue "Trek" feel it was previously lacking.
Actually, 1) it's not just Galors that do that, I've seen other ships do it as well and 2) it's also that way on Normal.
All of the NPC ships follow a specific power pattern in their AI routines when they move from alert to combat status. The Galors will always punch FBP at the start of battle as long as it is not on cooldown.

This would not be a problem if you did'nt have to get their attention away from the flimsy structures, as it is you have to gank yourself to draw them away.
I was playing on Elite to get the smashed accolade. Now that I have that I think I'll stay on normal.
