Improving "Pug" PVP

Arena based PVP dailies are all well and good. Unfortunatly the whole experience is being ruined by pre-arranged fleets and groups entering the PVP and communicating via Ventrillo or another communication program. I do not need to tell anyone the effect that this has on some games which usually results in an unbalanced and unfair victory on the side of the people that happen to have 5 members of the same fleet in it.

I suggest that specific PVP is split into two catagories, group/fleet PVP and "Pugg" PVP. This allows for fairness in group allocation and ensures a pleasurable PVP experience for all. So in retrospect, a fleet cannot bring members from a pre-arranged team into a PVP game forcing everyone to be pugs and therefore making the whole experience fairer thus making everyone happy?

Personally I think fed pugs are ruining pvp.

Most fed cruisers can't seem to even contemplate throwing a heal someone else's way. Resulting in the squishier DPS dealer being popped by focus fire. (which is easily mitigated by even just one cruiser healing an escort when it's 4 or 5 non escorts on the other side)

When you aren't even fulfilling the function of your class you aren't doing it right.
I practically jump for joy when I'm pugging and happen upon being on the side of a premade team. Because more than likely I'll actually get healed so I can do my job and murder everything silly enough to be infront of my ship at the wrong time.

I think now that we have a new way to get emblems, that maybe just maybe the guys that are there just to ride around and collect emblems because they hate to pvp (which seems to be half or more of the fed base) might not pvp. Unlikely though. More likely they'll come onto the forums and complain about how vent teams are ruining the game.

With the way the game dynamics work, your solution doesn't work because the Escort guy pretty much doesn't function fed side unless he's on a Team. Because most puggers frankly aren't going to heal them.

Knowing how to work together as a team is hardly "unfair"

God forbid Pug's would have to learn anything.

No, and I'm not saying that but I think that people should be given a choice in what they would prefere. For example, there are a few people who do not like being in fleets and prefere to solo. That is penalising them in PVP

This game does not need more division.
PvP Queus are a mess as it is already.

what it needs is an in game voice chat, that would help the pug's stand up better than just rushing in against voicechat premades.

So, as a cruiser i'm REQUIRED to heal? This is news to me. Remember, there are different ways to play a ship. Perhaps those flying in said cruisers don't have ENG Team? Can't exactly heal at that point :p

Uh no, it wouldn't. You'd just have little kids screaming in the mic or griefers spamming it.

Why divide up PVP when pvp isn't the problem, people playing with out team work and communication is the problem. Couple of points...

In a lot of matches you don't even have to have open communication to know what your teammates are doing or not doing. It isn't like there is a whole bunch of an assortment of maps to chose from. The maps are not hard to learn nor the tactics to be successful in them.

In a pug or a premade one of the most important things to know is your role in combat as well as your own limitations. Some of the problem with pugs is the same old story encountered in any game with PVP. The person who wants to rack up the most kills either pulling a rambo or getting ticked off cause people aren't playing "his" way.

Dividing up PVP will not see a resolution to either of those. There is one undeniable fact, no matter if you play solo or not, the moment you enter the pvp map, you are no longer solo. You are a part of a team. Premade or not. If you don't know your own strengths and limitations as well as work as a team you're boned.

Besides experience the only advantage a premade has over a pug is teamwork and communication. STO pvp require a little more coordination than a lot of other games. So dividing up PVP won't even make a dent in the issues.

I have posted similar in the PvP Forum months ago with the same subject and thats when we had a larger population, where you seperate into Experienced and Inexperienced, but that idea was literally laughed at. And now, the PvP population is at an all-time low and seperating would just create longer queues.

Best just grin and bear it and try your best to improve or take leadership in hopes the inexperienced will listen.
what it needs is an in game voice chat, that would help the pug's stand up better than just rushing in against voicechat premades.

Cryptic said that STO's servers are unable to handle Voice Chat. And would cost a fortune in order to upgrade in order to handle it.

While I personally would love to see PvP split up into 'random' and 'team' matches (just like Guild Wars had), as pointed out already, the current population just wouldn't support such a split. So we just have to suck it up.

A few 'improvements' might be in order though - a high number of feds *are* PvE-centric, and wonder why their face-rolling, pwning-everything PvE build is getting annihilated in PvP matches. Experimentation with builds is kinda discouraged by the respeccing cost (one respec token per tier, then 20,000 merits(?) per respec, then buying a respec with cold, hard cash would make a number of people think twice about tinkering), so why not lower the cost of respeccing (Guild Wars, for instance, made respeccing not only free, but a rather integral part of the game). *Or* give us the ability to have seperate PvE and PvP builds so they can keep their solo, smash-PvE builds and still have a more team-friendly PvP build available.

Unfortunately, all this would do is remove some of the excuses PvE-centric players have for not having useful PvP builds - it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll actually start using team-friendly builds in PvP...
