I have come up with a great idea that I would like your thoughts on. Instead of having Romulans as the next spices, I reckon I would be awesome to have section 31 as a new faction. I think that it would be AWESOME if cryptic did that. If they could pull it off, man, that would rock.
Just a thought

section 31, whilst cool, are effectively the feds, they are just a different group within them. id love more section 31 stuff but you cant compare what they are to an entire faction.

romulans will be next because thats who won the poll by a landslide.

meh get the big 3 out the way first. though if we need a second faction using fed ships it has to be the Terran Empire :D

    That's true.
I agree with you that there should be more section 31 stuff, they are very interesting to me and I'm sure a lot of other people.

The Romulans will be next due to their iconic status within the Star Trek universe. Section 31 was a creation of DS9 to give Bashir depth as a character. They can certainly add more S31 related missions though....

I was thinking about Section 31 today as well and when you compare how Franklin drake contacts you. its not all that different from how diplomatic ranks work now.

Instead of a fraction for Sec 31, perhaps cryptic could build a Sec 31 ranking system. complete with their more secretive mission types and tests. The more you do, the higher you go in the organization.

and with any luck they could use some of the framework from the diplomatic ranking to make this an easier task to complete!

    :)

I like this general idea, but it should come at a cost, perhaps by barring other paths the character could take. Another means of "specialization" perhaps?

So that your character doesn't end up being a Time-Travelling Federation Pirate Ambassador-Admiral secretly working for Section 31, the Terran Empire and the Maquis. :D

:) your right. that is a good point. I guess we are slipping into 'career options' at this point. Somthing i think cryptic was trying to avoid for the most part. Though it would be nice.

    maybe season 6!

If we ever get some depth to our career chocies, maybe they can make Section 31 a sort of sub-career. Like how Science officers can specialize in being either a doctor or scientist.

Actually, they were a Romulan under-cover agent the whole time. They just were playing the Pirates, Federation - Section 31, Terran Empire, and the Maquis off of each other to keep the Federation off balance and to gather intelligence on the Federation. Having an enemy government, aka the Federation, collapse in upon itself is much more satisfying than having to topple it yourself.

You are forgetting that Section 31 is supposed to be a clandestine organization. It would not be very clandestine if a third of the player population were members.

Although given that Drake has been telling everyone in the quadrant what Section 31 is, that may be a moot point. I'm pretty sure that even the primitive giants in the Murasaki 312 quasar know what Section 31 is.

an Intelligence quotient, if you will. This type of content could be used as content for each faction. For Federation toons, by completing specific mission for section 31 or for starfleet intelligence to earn experience that takes you higher in the organization. klingon and romulan factions also have intelligence agencies as well, so these missions could be adjusted for them. Sabotage, espinoge, assasinations (starfleet intelligence won't offer these), rescue missions or agent extractions, interfaction cooperation could also be primary features of the system.

i love the evolution of this idea. I hope the Dev's take note and consider it. It would add some more adventure to the game, and if they could make it so you could only belong to so many organzations/branches at one time. It would make everyones alts all the more different

ambassadors and their staff have extraordinary access. They would make the best spies. However, once their cover is blown, their career as an ambassador would also be over. So, maybe limitations could be implemented that would prevent an ambassador from climbing too high through the intelligence ranks, and vice versa, an expert spy could not be an ambassador. but, an envoy with the diplomatic corp could be a master spy.

So, this would be just like being a Fed. Same ships, same area of space, same enemies.

Except that you're smug jerk with godmode on.

In canon, Section 31 only shows up in DS9 and is hinted at in ENT.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, i think, should have done more episodes involving Section 31, they are one of my favourite hilights of Star Trek.

I loved the concept of Section 31, so I would love to see more done with them. That said, having them as a full-blown faction won't happen as they are part of the Federation. I see them as a sub-faction at best, possibly handing out missions and IXP (Intelligence XP) similar to the FDC. The idea put forth about having to choose "sides" would certainly add a lot needed depth to the game and help to differentiate players more.

Cryptic, are you listening? You've got a potential gold mine here.

Good idea but when you reach the final rank you should have an option to eliminate the whole organization(this is what I want to do and this is what all real starfleet captains would do(Sisco,Janeway,Picard etc.)).

edit:I am tired of helping them(without good reason) what they represent has no place in the Federation, just a tumor what I want to excise

edit2:why cant I at least send secret reports to Admiral Quinn about their movements/plans(like the unauthorized time travel in the devidian episode),the current implementation of section 31 in the game is not the best(if I play as a starfleet officer in a game I want to make similar decisions as the famous captains in the series(Sisco said that section 31 is bad mmkay and Sisco is always right)).

Just the current weekly series. And every time that I talk to Drake, I just want to kick him in a certain soft spot. Not because that I hate Section 31 (they have a place in the Federation, no matter what other people might want to tell you), but because he's such a douche.

Section 31 is very different to the Feds. It's like the dark side of them. They do thinks very differently and that's exactly what you would need.

Weren't the Devidian Missions Section 31?

You had to go in Covertly to stop another species from Invading. Don't kill the Locals, (Use Weps on Stun), in the Past so you do not TRIBBLE up the Station Timeline. Go in with a Small Force so as not to raise Too Many Eyebrows.
