Okay, great. So, now we have to fill a spot in our inventory in order to use Fireworks, and now we have to wait 5 seconds before we can use it again. Unlike with the emote bind where you could fire off several bursts for an impressive display, now we just have one weak display every 6 seconds. Woo hoo!
Hope you caught the sarcasm because I was laying it on pretty thick.
Sorry, but this is obviously a quick fix for the emote that was unintensionally useable by everyone. Please fix this to be the unlockable emote that it was scheduled to be. Having yet another device to fill my inventory with does not make me a happy veteran, because it just means that it will end up gathering virtual dust in my bank and I will rarely, if ever use it.
I'm hoping they treat it similar to C-Store emotes, but instead with this one being free. In fact, put it in the C-Store for free and restrict it to Vets only. Problem solved.
Or allow us to buy tabs to our inventory so we can have more space. Having a few million EC is rather pointless at this stage and it would be a way for us to burn our EC.

Something like that would work. Or they could just make the guy you go to reward you with the emote instead of the device.
I don't even know where the bloody firework item is. People have told me fifty different things. I've been told you get it automatically, that you get a new contact, or that directions appear when you log in. What actually happens?
I'd have done more searching in game but as of right now somethings wrong with my video card, it overheats, system crashes, etc. Just wanted to see what it looked like in space.
Besides: who is to say they work exactly like fireworks we have today?
They wouldn't.
You'd have to use an explosive substance, oxygen and perhaps another kind of gas to change the colour of the explosion and put it all together into a casing.
Probably a little more complex than that but I figure that's basically how it could be achieved.

If you are at the 300 day mark for Veteran Rewards, when you log in you get a window with one of your crewmen telling you that you can pick up your "device" in the Shipyard at Earth Space Dock (Qo'Nos for the Klingons). You go there and talk to Golos Vell (Bekk Strenn for the Klingons) and he will have an additional interaction choice "Claim Your Fireworks Device". Click that and you get your Fireworks.
Unfortunately you will have to keep it in your inventory and click on it in your tray every time you want to use it because binds don't work (unless you put it in a mapped tray slot) and there is a friggin cool down timer now. Great, eh? What a reward for being with the game for so long. Pfft.
I particularly don't like that you can't even equip it, so even if i want to use it for a social event or such i have to keep my inventory open to use it, no quickslots makes me sad.
Please for the love of all that is holy, don't make it an emote ever again.
Spammable Fireworks...FTL.
The other day, you couldn't get around ESD without fireworks going off non-stop in your face. The noice was annoying, the effects bog down the graphics and did I mention they were going off NON-STOP!!!!
Seriously, I am all for it being an inventory item, and the cooldown ought to be much higher. Maybe 2-5 minutes.
I recently upgraded my graphics card to a GeForce 8400, am running at medium settings and don't have any problems with the fireworks causing graphics issues.
I don't mind when people set them off, and think it's fun to look at.

I think it's a common courtesy thing.
If people want to meet up in Club 47, or the Observation Lounge and fool around, shoot off fireworks and dance, I have no problems with that at all.
But the rest of Spacedock is meant for conducting your business as a Starfleet officer, and just speaking as a player, it is incredibly annoying to stand at the tailor and work on uniforms, with the non-stop constant sound of fireworks going off.
That isn't fun or social. That is rude and irratating.
People need to consider others when they are doing these incredibly rude things, all in the name of fun.

The emote was not intended to be used in ground maps and there are better ways to fix it than to make it a damn device that I have to keep in my inventory to use. And a higher cool down? [sarcasm] Yeah, lets make it completely useless, why don't we? Let's just take it away all together and pretend it never existed. [/sarcasm]

Aside from the fact the "reward" is strictly cosmetic, having it as a "device" is full of FAIL. Go back to emote, plz.
Hmm, I too think it would've been better to have it remain as an emote than another thing to clutter up our inventory. Now it's just a very lackluster reward.

I think my point was aimed more that I personally experience no graphic lag, nor am I personally bothered by people detonating fireworks while I am at the exchange or any other area at ESD. It's a game, and the toy didn't really bother me when it was available as an emote.
Why create it as an inventory item instead of the emote? Why not just lock it down to just the social areas? By making it an inventory item, you have to burn an inventory space, and keep equipping it to use it, by making it have a higher cool down, those that want to use it in social situations can't use it like they would like to. It makes it less fun.
There are other threads around about people complaining about social players using combat abilities in social settings. Would this not be a good item to replace those abilities?
Why not just lock it down to just the social areas?
I think you are on to something right here.
If the emotes and stuff people like to play with, could be locked to only certain areas of ESD, say The Stateroom, Observation Lounge, Club 47, then I'd have no problem with it being an emote, and people can go as nuts as they want with it.
But I don't think people should have the ability to anooy other players and ruin their immersion or their play experience by going hog wild with these things in areas that are essential to the game, such as The Shipyard, Exchange, Bank Terminals, Requisitions, etc.
But in the social areas of the station, have fun and go nuts. That is what they are there for.

The fireworks emote was designed to be a SPACE emote. That fact that it was working on ground maps was an unintentional bug.
And devs, please turn it back to an emote, like it was advertised. It was working fine as an emote. You just had to restrict it to space and make it work like the Khan emote and then everything would have been fine.

I don't think locking down all emotes would be appropriate either. I seem to recall canon references where actions or emotions displayed in some emotes were used in non-social settings. Other social actions would also take place in non-social areas (getting angry at someone, or laughing).
However, toy items like this, or if they unveil party favors for the social players or something...perhaps.
The fact that the e-mote was useable by everyone was indeed a bug.
However, the fact that it is now a device that has a cool down and is only usable in space is the design intent of the item. I posted as much last week, here.
I will of course pass along your feedback to the dev team, but I'm not sure this is something we'll be changing.

Thanks, Stormy.
I don't see what would be the problem with making it an actual emote, rather than a device. The Khaan and Bloodwine emotes are unlockables and don't require a device to use them. Can't you just copy that functionality? If you guys still feel you have to leave it as a device could you at the very least remove the cooldown?

The only logic I can see to the cooldown is the Khaan emote won't run my video card crazy if everyone is doing it at the same time.
I want you to make fireworks happen IRL. Right now. No, don't go get any fireworks or matches, just make it happen through sheer force of will.
You can't?
Then, it should be a device. You don't need a device to dance like a jester or yell KHAAAN, but people can't just make fireworks happen, you need to actually have fireworks for that.
I had fun with the emote (for the first two minutes). I'm *really* glad it was removed from indoors. And to be honest, seeing it constantly spammed from every other ship flying *anywhere* was a bit of an immersion breaker for me.
ymmv
I'd rather just have a options setting making things like fireworks, grief grenades, and fire extinguishers invisible. Or only allow the use of such things in a specific instance # of ESD/Sol (so all of *those* players can flock there and play together and climb stuff and do their thing vying for the attention of eachother).

Pffft.
People complain about ships they say don't belong and no one bats an eyelash about this?
Looks bloody stupid. Should be ground only!
Because it's canon:

Still looks stupid though. No matter the technobabble.
You call that technobabble?
Okay now i'm scared.
I've seen manuals for a toaster that are more complex than my writeup.;)
