Improving Space Stuff?

Escorts:
Currently, escorts suck. They die way too easy. The upped DPS isn't exactly worth it.

The changes would be as followed:

Put a new stat in the game. It's called "Evasion". This stat rises and lowers depending on current speed, current turn rate and your vector compared to other ships that want to fire on you. If you're running straight at them you'll be hit more often. If you're moving parallel of them more then you'll be hit less (assuming they're not moving in the same direction).

This will let piloting matter defensively instead of not really mattering much at all aside from shield facings.

Evasion would be affected by certain moves that increase your speed and turn rate. Evasion would be much more useful for Escorts. Science ships would use it somewhat effectively. Bigger, less mobile ships would find less use. A Galaxy might find it hard to avoid ANY attacks as the evasion stat curve does not go in their favor.

Offenses and Defenses:
Right now hit and split tactics are unrealistic. If a Defiant unleashed all it had on a target then turned for another run with it's cannons the darned thing would likely be fully healed by the time it got back aroudn (especially if it's a cruiser).

In my opinion defensive stats should be raised for all ships (less for Escorts). Regeneration moves should be nerfed. Regeneration stats nerfed as well. I don't remember on Star Trek their shields going from 100% to 0% 20 times in a tiny battle. Seriously, my cruiser regenerates shields waaay too much.

As for offenses... Escorts need a buff. Example: Defiant could have the ability to fire off two cannons and two torpedoes at a time. It's canon. It makes sense. It would make it have great burst damage but it wouldn't become insane just from that (it's already a mediocre ship).

Also, cruisers... A Beam Overload for a Galaxy should do MORE damage than any escort's beam overload. With the big buff in evasion for escorts (and to a slighter extent science ships) how about stashing extra ranks of tactical consoles on these things?

The idea here is that the Defiant and other escorts would have a big evasion buff which would give them survivability. Lets just say evasion works best when using a move in conjunction with it like Evasive Maneuvers. Escorts would recieve a smaller defense buff outside of Evasion. Evasion would more than make up for it.

Now with the less regeneration (in combat at least) Escorts and similar ships (BoPs) could do hit and run attacks that actually matter. Or at least maneuver in battle like they would in the show for the Evasion bonus. They're escape tactics would be greater with evasion and they wouldn't die as much. They'd fly around like in the shows instead of just pointing their nose and letting lose and staying still. They'd have much more "Escort"y tactics.

Now there'd be a reason for Beam weilding Escorts. Don't argue here lol. They suck. I've never had ANY trouble with an escort that uses beams instead of cannons. But beam weirld escorts could maneuver all the battle and fire very effectively at enemies still while cannon escorts would be the hit and split guys or have to focus more on pointing that nose.

Evasion would be much more effective vs Torpedoes. Phasers would be much harder to dodge. Most special attacks would have a reduced chance to be evaded. Some couldn't be evaded.

Now back to Cruisers. These cruisers would be tougher but less ability to freakin' heal themselves and others and less regenerating to infinity like they often can.

So basically they'd be nerfed. But what to do to make up for it? Give them higher ranked Bridge Officer Stations. That's right. They'd be "IMBA" in the count of station ranks however Evasion and the greater DPS on Escorts would take care of that.

Lets look at the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit:
Normally it has...
Ensign Engineering
Lieutenant Commander Engineering
Commander Engineering
Lieutenant Science
Lieutenant Tactical

Now add a Commander Tactical, yes a whole new one. It could now pull off big phaser hits that all of us want AND do multiple torpedoes like in the show. :P

Looking over everything so far:

Escorts:
Buff Addition of Evasion stat.
Buff Unique offensive Abilities for Escorts or higher general stats. Examples:
Defiant - Quad Cannons and Double Torpedoes (can fire two of each at the same time!)
Prometheus - Raised defensive stats and Multi-vector Assault Mode.
Fleet Escort - ??? Something else. As simple as stats or an ability.

Cruisers:
Nerf Regenerative Powers (at least with sizable deminision returns)
Buff Defensive stats (shield HP and Hull)
Buff +Bridge Officer Stations or Ranks (Cruisers are big things that are built to do everything afte rall)

Science Ships:
Buff Addition of Evasion (not as much as Escorts)
Honestly, I know not much about Science Ships. I play Escorts, BoPs and Cruisers primarily and my highest Science character was Lieutenant Commander.

    Escorts:
Prometheus - Raised defensive stats and Multi-vector Assault Mode.
    • If you look @ it canon the Prometheus was more or less immune to any kind of damage during the time of Multi-Vector assault mode.

    • I'm sure one day we will see it but I guess it's very complex to setup the separation & reintegration animation, also it's a their 5 ship so knowing the game, stating the obvious here, it will be a retrofit for a higher future level skill cap.

    • Well engineering has gotten allot & allot of love & them some, &.... science has got some love, so yeah I hope they haven't forgotten about Tactical & their escorts because whit every release patch & content the escorts have been pushed back.

    • I know Tactical isn't very canon on Starfleet, most it's all about the engineering & science but we are @ war whit lol... everybody apparently, so yeah Starfleet needs to get of it's lazy behind & trow up some more fire power put some more beef on our escorts & defense capability because escorts @ the moment you can survive whit the correct setup & do amazing DPS, but but... against all the other ships you can barely kill them anymore you run out of healing powers before you can even start hitting their hull & by the time you do get to their hull, they are already ready to pop another crazy heal upon themselves. PvP is turning in to the eternal grind.

    • On many occasions I have encountered the problem where a good trained Engineering officer can't kill me because of his lack of DPS but the other way around, I can't kill him because he keeps pulling the amazing healing abilities out his you know what, long live a stalemate but that's just so boring & I end up flying of going to kill some lesser gifted player O well in the ends it's all about teamwork anyway.

    • Maye more fire power isn't the solution escort suppose to be fastest & big on maneuvers ships the Prometheus should be one of the fastest, if not the Fastest ship in all of Starfleet & escorts are hit & run vessels so most of the time you can make a good hit but not a good run, lol unless you trow it all in AUX but that should not be necessary in a escort that is in his own nature already a hit & run vessel in the first place, A fast escape ability should be a generic power that comes whit every escort ship.

    To state it better...

Cruisers should be able to do more. Hence why I recommend more Bridge Officer Stations. They should have more hull and more defenses then they have however much less regenerative abilities. The ships with regenerative abilities in Star Trek Canon (at least for shields) are smaller ones. The Nova-class could get 100% shields if they lowered them for like 45 seconds. While a Galaxy might struggle to regenerate their shields.

In canon Escorts (Defiant being the only canon escort) do very little besides Escort things. They'd have less abilities but of course that crazy firepower. However, in STO they completely lack maneuverability in terms of dodging attacks. The Defiant is if anything defined by it's Pilot (and Captain :P). With a great Pilot at the helm it could dodge most incoming attacks and overcome long odds. In canon it's defeated literally like a dozen ships at a time just because of this ability.
Oh... and Escort-like ships have very unique abilities in Star Trek. This and evasion would make up for the Cruiser extra defenses and Boff slot. (Defiant quad cannons, Prometheus Multi-Vector Assault mode).

As for science ships... Again, I don't play them much. They'd get the evasive buff though not as much as Escorts... and something else.

Another thing we must do is forget about the vocabulary. Escorts, Cruisers and Science ships. We're too caught up in them. Instead just look at the stats. A Defiant would likely represent one extreme. The extreme of DPS and Maneuverability. A Galaxy-class or something else (forgot what that Cryptic designed on was called) would represent another extreme. Everything else fits somewhere else and Science ships would potentially be all strewn about.

P.S. The Prometheus was the fastest WARP ship. It didn't say anything about it's impulse and maneuverability. I'd bet a random baby that it is less maneuverable than a Defiant which is like the most maneuverable Starfleet ship (outside of shuttles and stuff).
