Cryptic - Explain Why C-Store Items Are Given To Everyone Else Free?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Hey,

I realise that people are not getting the Constitution Starship, but they are getting the phasers for free. So You have basically taken my money for the unique phasers which I can level up with, and then said hahaha NaTaKu you won't now mind if we give them to everyone else for free? And let them re-do the missions over and over when we add it to the game to get as many of these phasers as they like and we asked you to pay for.

Hmm, not sure when they changed the Connie, but originally, when I got it [as part of the pre-order program] it wasn't a leveling phaser. It was just a base-level phaser that happened to be blue.

I think it's probably more helpful to consider that the real perk of the item is the TOS Connie frame.

They are getting a single fore phaser for free, not "phasers." There's a huge difference between getting 1 phaser and getting all that the TOS Constitution offers.

You are making an assumption that people will be able to get rewards repeatedly when they are able to repeat missions. I would expect diminished credits and no reward for a repeated mission.

The various rewards you receive are meant to be rare items that you can't get in the normal requisition stores and sometimes they are just for fun or as part of the storyline. For example in the Deferi mission you were given a crate of snow tubers as your mission reward... but those turned out to be able to breed a new type of Tribble.

So this week's TOS phaser bank is really meant to be a fun reward for having traveled back in time, and for those who enjoy the TOS it is also another way to get more of these so they can outfit their ships. (especially once Episode Replay hits and you can go back and re-run episodes to get more rewards).

Helps if you look at it this way:

The fee you paid, gave you the item(s) ahead of everyone else. Youve had them for up to 6 months+ (and thus levelled all your characters with them) when everyone else were forced to buy weapons on the exchange or whatever.

Also, the reward is just the front array, which means they cannot "fully" equip their ships with them

Furthermore, no Klingon player have had anything similar to the Constitution or its weapons.. Now they too, have the ability to get these weapons.

I write this as a girl, who less than 2 weeks ago *bought* the TOS Enterprise on the CS.

I dont complain about it, neither should you.

In any case: You better get used to it bud... This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last time that somthing you thought was only for you, turns out to be for everyone.

Actually, they always leveled with you, but they lacked the 'infinity 8' character on the equipment that we're now used to with the weekly series.

Now that this Phaser array has been offered as the reward for the latest mission, the TOS Connie phasers have changed their appearance to be identical.

Ah, that explains it, just never realized the phasers leveled then, since there was no real indication of it. Cool deal, and thank you.

If you bought the Connie, I would think that you were buying it for the ship and not the phasers. So people get access to 1 of those phaser banks, you don't have to worry because you get access to unlimited retro phasers!

I look at it as you still get a tougher hull, another engineering slot and an aft phaser(since as I recall you only get a forward arc beam from the mission) I got my Connie from buying the original retail at the original retail price(for the collectors edition no less) so if anyone should 'complain' it should be me and those like me, but I am not. Now if only I could get CaptnLogan to fix the customization options on the Connie so that I can keep the deflector dish metallic if I change the pain scheme.....

bought it 4 weeks ago or so and till date I have had absolutely no use for it :P this reward made me apreciate and DISCOVER (yes really) that I had these leveling phasers. When I bought the Connie they were just plain tier 1 useless phasers that were blue, so I was quite ****ed about my purchase :P My first character was Admiral and my alt already captain so I had no use for a tier 1 vessel other than to role play with it (thought it also became available as a tier 5 vessel once you purchased it)

Source on that first bit of information please?

(I know you're referencing dStahl on the repeat the mission trick, but he never said it would *always* be the same reward)

You paid for the ship; the phasers were a free bonus.

remember, they are fore phasers only. hot "aft" phasers. so you can only equip half your ship with them. which means your connie is still half useful since you get both fore and aft phasers with it.

The reason they got a phaser bank as a reward this week as this episode was a MAJOR reference to the original series. Or did anyone else not notice McCoy and the starbase's design?

You'll also notice that the T5 refits can be bought for free with the ship token at VA... but I paid Cryptic Points for the Defiant. So what?

The C-Store item is listed as TOS Enterprise. Not as "TOS Retrofit Forward Phaser Bank" or some such. Did anyone get the TOS Enterprise?

Of course, ideally there should be nothing at all in C-Store that you can't get in-game.

You paid for a Constitution class ship.

They didn't advertise it as TOS phaser array, I fail to see why your so upset.

It hasn't. He's just been speculating and jumping to his own conclusions.
There have been people who told him that they bought the constitution too, myself likewise, and we've all accepted the fact of the matter, this thread is about the fact that he doesn't and he needs to express it in some way.

but hey what do we know? We are all TRIBBLE

I guess Captain Obvious would say those that have the Connie already have this option - effectively.

One thinking on a more deep level however, might surmise they are trying to live up to the seemingly forgotten promise of stuff in the store being available in game - to some degree. Granted the weapon proper is not but hey it is a start. Right? Moreover if one runs the mission at the lowest level the weapon is a pretty damn good thing.

Completing the mission a second time doesn't give you the item a second time.

And the mission rewards are bind-on-pickup.

    Cognitive deficient...
