Lost ships, and a race against time.

Over and over again in Star Trek, we've seen instances where ships have been lost, or the crews killed somehow, and two opposing factions have been in competition to recover the ship for their own ends.

Whether that makes you think of the Defiant, the Stargazer, the Pegasus, or the Prometheus, it's an iconic happenstance in Star Trek.

I think we need something similar as a PvP Fleet action (for an open PvP zone it would rock, but until there's open PvP..).

Something similar to this. oh, I know we can't actually use the Columbia, there's legal reasons in the way of that, but perhaps a different, more well known class of ship?

I can just see the rusting, rotting wreck of a Constitution class, askew and partially submerged in a marsh on some forgotten world, the flashes of space combat overhead illuminating the pitched battle taking place on her hull between the KDF and Starfleet salvage teams below.. (this would also sate the demand for a night-time, low-visibility arena I've heard calls for)

Or a space combat map to triangulate, find, and recover the hulk of an old Ambassador class starship, lost, and presumed obliterated, during the brief Klingon-Federation war of 2372-73.

First you have to seed sensor drones around the Nebula, then, you have to defend them while they localize the magnetic signature of the ship, then, you have to find it, board it, and fight room to room, trying to get her underway.

You have to cold-start her reactor, repair her EPS systems, and utilize her transporters to beam the opposing team off of her to win..

You know you want it. ;)

    YES!!!!

    I WANT IT!!!!

Your proposal reminded me of the firefight on Veridian III over the wreck of the USS Enterprise-D, which was portrayed in the Shatnerverse novel, "The Return".

Perhaps a Majestic class starship has gone down near the Neutral Zone. Your job is to protect the Starfleet Corps of Engineers personnel who are conducting salvage operations. If the SCE crew bites the dust, and your team dies, the Klingons will get their hands on the technology. (IE Klingon Win, Starfleet Loss) If you protect the crew and they manage to recover the technology, then Starfleet wins.

I suggest a Majestic Class or other "modern" Starfleet ship, because recovering the technology from any ship pre-Khitomer Accords wouldn't be a priority for the Empire. When we were allies, they likely got plenty of technology and information out of us. But the newer stuff, they wouldn't have intel on.

I thought about that, but then I got to thinking about the size of those ships, and how large a map with it's crashed hulk would have to be, or how large the interior map would be for the fight to get her running again, in either case, even the smallest Starfleet vessels would be almost too large, and when you consider the size we see the Sovereign has in First Contact when they go EVA to fight the Borg and eject part of the Main Deflector..

Well, smaller seemed better, and the older the hulk, the more interesting the terrain could be, at least with a crashed ship. A fight on board a derelict (but still space-born) ship wouldn't necessarily have to be an older design, but a modern ship wouldn't give you the eerie feeling I was hoping for..

I mean, a Nova Class might work, but it would still have to be a Nova Class from like 20-25 years ago to get the decrepit angle I was going for.

I'm looking to recapture the excitement & mood some of the locations in this latest Devidian series have given us, and put an iconic situation into the game.

Actually the Cryptic made Fleet Escorts could work size wise, and even if a larger ship was used, some creative landscaping could be used to make the map smaller, such as partially burying the ship due to impact, and only having part of the hull included in the arena box.

But I can see what you are going for, and really a variety of ships could be used. And the class and era of ship doesn't really matter in the discussion, because the idea is what counts, and it is a fantastic idea.

Actually, come to think of it, a Defiant Class would probably be best, most likely to have the weapons and shield technology Klingons would want, and if you look at her hull, just a few bits of damage or decay would make for an interesting battlefield, no matter whether you're fighting on her dorsal hull or ventral hull..

EDIT: Just a thought, why the hell are we limiting ourselves to Federation ships!?

A land battle on the hull of a Qin Raptor or through the halls of a Negh'Var Cruiser would be almost unbelievably cool!

Why are we limiting ourselves to Fed/Klingon. They could both be racing to recover an Iconian, Breen, Dominion, Romulan, or some other alien starship.

The combat could involve both factions trying to control key locations, like ingineering, the compute core, the bridge, etc...
