I am mostly a solo player.
I don't think I'll ever bother to do the group missions (Infected for example), they'll just rot in my mission log. To me, they sound boring and frustrating. I don't need a game for that.
I do however enjoy PvP and grouping is fine in a casual manner.
What I am really having a hard time with is this 'assist targeting'.
I am fully familiar with the concept, I have had experience with it in games for what a decade.
I have never seen it so poorly implimented as the way it is in STO space combat.
The way it works is ....
I target [Team Member 1]
[Team Member 1] has [Bad Guy 1] targeted.
I fire my weapon while targeting [Team Member 1]My weapon fires at [Bad Guy 1]
Also in reverse for buffing/healing
I have [Bad Guy 1] targeted.
[Bad Guy 1] has [Team Member 1] targeted.
I use a healing ability while targeting [Bad Guy 1]Healing ability heals [Team Member 1]
BUT
That's not the way it works in STO.
In this game I fire my weapons while targeting [Team Member 1] and my target switches to [Bad Guy 1].
Likewise...
If I target [Bad Guy 1] and fire off a healing ability my trarget gets switched to [Team Member 1] and my weapons get turned off.
Huh?
What the heck....is this supposed to be somehow usefull?
It just ends up leading to a massive, confusing, target jumping, oh what the hell, why am I shooting at that guy now, mess in a heated fight.
Auto-Assist should not be switching your main target.
The ability should fire off at the implied target, but your target should remain what you selected.
