The winds have changed...

and the change is good.

Over the past two to three months, I've been noticing the subtle changes as Cryptic has been progressing through adding content to the game.

The Deferi series was the beginning. With missions that featured some very beautiful locations, some interesting gameplay mechanics (like the pressure plate puzzle) and the beautiful sector that Defera resides in. The daily with the Breen ship that allos completion without firing a shot is also a good step towards restoring the "Star Trek" feel to this game.

Then, this Devidian series really stepped up to the plate. First, using Eta Eridani was a good move. Then revisitiing an old "nemesis" in Franklin Drake. The story has been well told and well woven, even as to why the Cardassians were involved in the first place. Then came "What Lies Beneath" and it became clear that new and better things are on the way. Cryptic's devs really hit that one out of the park with the graphics, the flashlights, the spookiness triggered by where you go. Plus add in the new way of conveying info to you via the mini-boxes instead of the often maligned full sized pop-ups.

Then this week showed us they are experimenting with other forms of new missions, based on diplomacy and alternate resolution methods instead of just "shoot to kill".

Finally, these new dailies, which are utilizing a more fluid and realistic approach to comabt, where the hits keep coming, regardless of if you are done fighting the first mob...so incredibly tasty! Even my girlfriend was having a blast with it, and she tends to get flustered in combat at times. But she was excited and loving it.

All these things make it clear to me that a new wind is blowing down there at Cryptic Studios, and the ship is being steered in a new direction. A direction that I find very exciting and very hopeful.

To everyone at Cryptic, I say....Thank You, Job Well Done, and Keep up the fantastic work!

Indeed, I see the game changing - albeit very slowly - into the game it should have been from the start.

Lets hope that Cryptic keep on changing and pushing the game to be something worthy of The Final Frontier.

Nope, not trying to jinx it. Rather, trying to recognize the developers who are contributing to this change, a little pat on the back / props from me. Not that it means much, but I've been critical of this game in the past, and to see these changes are highly encouraging for me.

Oh, and I didn't forget about Gozer and his work on the patrols for the Klingons. that needs to be recognized too.

All in all, the future looks brighter now for STO, than it did a couple months ago. It still has work in front of it, but I feel the work being done right now, is going in the right direction.

I so agree with you. Personally, I'm incredibly happy I decided to come back to STO. The advances and changes made to the game have def been moving it a direction to where I REALLY look forward to playing it every day.

I cannot wait until the next mission, I'm such a geek for time travel.
