Universe altering event

Was brainstorming about different stories that could be told. What about having something big happen that would change the norm in the universe. Perhaps have the Romulans invade and conquer Vulcan. It can be said that the majority of Romulans still ultimately blame the Vulcans for the destruction of Romulus and not taking any actions to help their cousins. This avenue could produce a number of missions for both factions and could be a good lead in to when the Romulans become a playable faction when that time comes. There would be plenty of missions for the Romulan faction from this as well. Missions that look into the planning of the invasion or perhaps it's a splinter group that invaded Vulcan and your missions are to find out the members of the group and how they managed to organize an invasion force and conquer Vulcan right under the Romulan leader's nose. The splinter group could then make attempts to overthrow the current Romulan leadership and take command of the "new Romulan Empire" that will take no TRIBBLE from any outside race. Add your thoughts and or improvements to this idea. Perhaps the devs will like where it goes.

We can barely decide what races should be in the Romulan faction. I don't even think we have a proper timetable for them to come out. I heard that the best case scenario for them to come out would be right around this time next year but you shouldn't quote me on that. Personally, I think we need a huge expansion on content for the Klingons and greater variation on the Federation side before we move on to a new faction.

I do think it will be cool to see a few major universe-changing events, but they would have to be for major updates/patches/etc with lots of new content being added like, as you suggested, Romulans becoming a playable race. I think conquering Vulcan may be going a little too far though, given Vulcan's location, but why not have a major Romulan offensive capturing all the systems up to and including (for future storyline possibilities) Memory Alpha?

Vulcan could inexplicably disappear and a JJ-prise warps in and says "We've changed everything!"

sounds like we are trying to set up time line fill-ins and how the Romulan's story will be set in game.

The big key is going to be how the Romulan faction will be set.
A] they will be a 3rd Faction. this will have the possible effect of diminishing Klingon and Fed players as main toons. so some sectors will have an emptier feeling; furthermore, you now have the issue of pvp queues. R v F, R v K & K v F would just set the feds up against another race that can cloak, choose the alpha attack and the disappear. So you would have another pvp system just like it is with the klingons.....further animosity around who can cloak and who is OP. the other result is K v K pvp seldom happens, so this would be a long drawn out conflict to who is gonna uncloak and be bait first. While the Cap&hold is made to have you uncloak to get points, the arena mish is not a good one to play for this. Perhaps if, there was an assault or defend objective to have to get you to drop cloak....but it doesnt exist yet and has no reference from the devs of being implemented in game.
B] The Romulans will be set to side with either the Fed in enforcing a cease to hostilities or join the Klingons in "gunboat Diplomacy" to flush out the insurgents to our quadrant. this of course would bring cloaking to a side that has no good cloaks and would make a shift in the way the F v K pvp is fought and won. The story line would be there to fill in why and how the Empire is to be sustained, yet, would give rise to Donatra's forces wanting a peace with Starfleet and Sela's forces wanting to gain retribution and territory. this way Fed fleets would keep players that are Romulan without having to worry about yet another fleet formation and using a chat window to ask who is online...you can see them online as they are part of the existing fleet. Same goes for Klingon fleets too.

    Factors:
1] Start off as Commander 1
2] Must be Captain 6 to unlock
3] Must have Romulan, Reman, Hirogen as choosable races
4] Must have iconic and new ships for both Romulan Empire and Voyager Hirogen as well as Retrofit ships
5] Ground weapons, costumes and tribble/targ like buff pets

At least this is how I see it.

Totally agree that it's not time for new faction yet. That was just a possibility I threw in for when the time does come. My main topic was looking at universe altering events.

Suggested the conquering idea since the Romulans have actually had plans to but were foiled in TNG. Perhaps with their new Delta quadrant allies there could be a new outcome.
