Automated repair facilities..

A recent RP Thread highlighted the need for Ship repair facilities and Medical Personnel in the Eta Eridani Sector block and elsewhere. I propose a more.. Interesting solution than simply putting additional personnel aboard K7 or Starbase 39.

In the ST:ENT Episode "Dead Stop" Enterprise encounters an Automated Repair facility, which, among other things, requires payment in the form of Barter (specifically, it allows payment in the form of 3 Warp Coils, 5 Deuterium Injectors, or 200 Liters of Warp Plasma).

<Spoiler Alert: Highlight To Read>

The actual station (of course) turns out to be too good to be true in the end and is destroyed (though it seems to begin repairing itself afterward).

<End Spoiler Alert>

Couldn't a similar set up be put into place in STO? A series of Automated repair facilities that take payment in commodities (giving them another use beyond missions like Aid the Planet and Temple Offerings?)

The ARF also had recreational areas, which could be interesting as an additional social area option for RP.

Anybody else thing this would be a nice addition to the game?

    You know, every now and then an idea is presented on these forums that doesn't suck. It happens so rarely that when it does I am usually surprised.

    I am now surprised.

    :D

    With new game mechanics it would be great, but the game as is doesn't have a need for this. With open PvP and the possibility of damage severe enough to need repair at a drydock, i would love this idea.

    Well, I imagine the idea would be to have them somewhat more widely placed than starbases. Thus when you've taken ship "injuries" you'd have a convenient location to go for repairs, and you could use a different method of payment. Perhaps even they could even sell repair parts there for commodities.

    As is commodities drop fairly frequently as loot, and we have little in the was of use for them.

    I can see how you would think that, but earlier today I was sitting in Eta Eridani, and I "scanned" (clicked on) a number of Captains coming out of the various war zones there, and time after time I saw people with upwards of 10 ship injuries, most of them critical ones.

    And don't get me started on the ships I see in Battle Group Omega..

    Now, it may be just that they don't have time mid-combat to get away and use the components, or maybe, due to the abject rarity of Critical components, they don't have them, or, even stranger, perhaps they collect injuries as a way of making the game more challenging for themselves, I don't know.

    But an Automated repair facility would be useful, especially in Battle Group Omega, where there isn't even a station for repair and medical personnel, much less vendors for components or regenerators.

    I see. Now if they could only associate hull damage and injuries, that'd be cool.

    Oh, most definitely, every time we get EPS Conduit Damage, a random Boff gets a Radiation Burn.

    I would love that. Or we get a Warp Core failure and every Boff gets Radiation sickness and a random number of them get minor concussions..

    That would be cool as hell. It would also have serious repercussions on missions, imagine it, you're playing on advanced, your ship gets battered by a group of Hirogen, but you survive with a Hull fracture and a Transporter malfunction (both major injuries) but now you have to beam down to a planet, and your regular away team isn't fully up-to-spec.

    Your Engineer has a minor concussion and a radiation burn, your chief medic has cracked ribs, and then, when you do beam down, damn, that transporter malfunction.. Only three of your four boffs make it down with you, and everybody now has radiation burns from the transporter (the fourth member of your away team is still aboard ship).

    That. Would. Be. EPIC.

    I posted for something like this long ago.
    We really need something like this so a thumbs up!
    Maybe a overall ship condition bar with persistant damage appearance and a drydock to fix it.
    Not instant either , depending how bad it is itll take time , we can fly another ship why we wait even or go for shore leave in Risa or Earth etc.
    The Dock could be at mars!
    On this note how about we stock up on photons etc and not have then umlimited etc , BO's on bridge can be used for a lot of it too , give them a convo while on bridge and we talk to them to find out stock levels and condition etc.
    Stress levels for crew , so we must put in for shore leave now and then lol
    The possibliitys are endless :)

    OH!?

    the Eta Eridani ARF could be integrated into the Klingon crafting raids!! The ARF would likely be chock-full of technological and physical crafting components!
