One of the only reasons I joined was for the Character Builder. But now that I find I don't have the correct video card to play the game, I can't make my characters. I thought up a solution: An offline version of the character builder. It's exactly the same, only you don't need to have the game (or in my case, the demo). STO can also get moohlah out of this: You still have to use CPs to get races like the Federation Klingon, Pakled, Caitian, Rigelian, Tellarite, and Ferengi. And of course members get their benefits, as they get to save their creations, while non-members will have to take a screenshot then upload it to paint, then.....
Well, you get the idea. What do you think? I need feedback, people!
Bohrok, you could try running the game with the lowest possible settings. It won't look pretty but it might work. You could also ask someone who knows about computers if they could install a good video card for you.
As for the idea of the offline character builder. I'm all for it, but I doubt we would see one since it is probably too much work to put together. Aside from that, if your computer can't run the game then it wouldn't be able to run the builder since it'll use the same graphics.
P.S. I believe the species in his avatar is a custom designed one. I have never seen anything like it. It does look nice.
I don't think the video card thing makes ANY sense. If I can look at Youtube videos of the game, I should be able to run the game!
Nope. A video of a game and the actual game are two different animals.
When you are playing a game like STO the video card needs to generate the images for your character, other characters, the environment, and everything else you see on the screen. It must process a lot of information in order to do that.
When you are watching a video of a game you are simply looking at pictures that move very quickly and when put together are animated. Kind of like a flipbook except digital.
On windows, you can open your start button, type in device manager, and check under the grahpics card option to see what type you have.
Have you updated your graphics card recently by downloading update software from your manufacturer? (... well after you find out what one it is first)
And my avatar is from a species I created using the custom alien option... here is a larger image of that species, this is a tactical officer who isn't as old as my avatar.

I'm a little surprised that any computer in this modern era can't run sto graphics.
I have NO idea. I don't know jack about Video Cards.

Not really, the video card has to generate a 3D enviroment for the game, while a youTube video is just a series of 2D images.
Let's help you find out your system info, are you a PC or Mac? And are you running on a desktop or laptop?

You can have custom "Alien" races.
Also, if your video card can't run STO even on the lowest settings, you need a new computer. Cryptic doesn't need to add anything in this topic.
