It's weird when you run into a social area, see someone with the same uniform and yet they have wildly different colors or subtle differences (like a different shade of yellow for their TOS uniforms).
This would merely be option, possibly as limited as outlining certain colors in the color picker. Or as complicated as having default options for each uniform (like the current default options but one for each uniform).
Purely optional. It would simply help people match (if they choose to).
A default color option would be nice. Although one can make the argument that different shades of colors is canon. Especially in TNG, a lot of times almost every one's uniforms were a few shades darker or lighter.
I have, and honestly those are just the opinions of what should be the canon colors for the uniforms from one individual. Basically useless to me. I already disagree a few shades on a few of them.

Just getting information out there. I still find costume customization to be one of the most robust features of STO but, hey, more options are more options?

Or just maybe those folks want the wild or suble difference. I myself used Black's guide for my ToS and Twok uniforms, but my other ones are my own color sets.
I and several others asked for this in closed beta. Basically it would work like this:
* All special unlock uniforms you have available to you are open.
* You can set uniforms via the tailor shop interface and save them including designating color scheme by division (science, medical, operations, command, etc.,)
* You can then select to use your chosen uniform for all NPCs and players you run across regardless of their garish carnival freak color choices via the Options window.
* Color palette would be seriously limited to avoid the Ronald McDonald/CHampions Online look we see all over.
What we got was a slightly modified palette and a promise to look more into the system above (by mhighison) because he liked the sound of it.

Which is why, as I said, it would be purely OPTIONAL.

And therein lies the problem with this proposal. Even an optional default color system would be difficult to agree upon for many users. What seems to be the "canon default" for some will, surely, be deemed "basically useless" by others. Personally? I'm quite satisfied with the options we have available to us at this time. Canon color is in the eye of the beholder, and that satisfies me.
I really like this idea. It would be great if the canon uniforms could be selected from the basic tab in the Tailor, and have all the right items and colours selected automatically.
If this can't be implemented in the game for some reason, perhaps the devs or the artists could post here what the intended look of these uniforms is supposed to be.
As a religious follower of Blackavaar's guide, I would still say individuality was a good move, or else all my uniforms would be out of date at any rate...
But default *correct* templates is a good idea, so that they can be tweaked afterwards if need be. That would catch some *accidental* re-colouring too. Win-Win.
I wouldn't mind seeing the option of choosing certain templates for uniforms, but overall I think the system they have right now is fine. Worst comes to worst, I'll just check "The Guide".
I'm not opposed to the OP's suggestion in general, but it becomes complicated when one considers that we all use different video cards, monitors, and video settings (and even different televisions). What might match the official color on my monitor may not look the same on yours. The only way for 'official' colors to be accurate would be to have the entire player base using monitors calibrated for the same RGB color palette (or CMYK for ink reproduction).

I think that is cool.
Maybe like a button that lets you pick operations or science and just makes it the proper yellow or blue.
Good idea OP, good idea.

To each his own; remember the IDIC.
