Don't get me wrong the Doc's awesome and win. But really.... no voice over work. Just text.
And the mission itself? So utterly short. And other than the puzzle and -evasion- part while solid.... there was just no sense of real urgency in this mission. Such a let down compared to last week.
And again... no voice over work... makes me a sad panda.
The reward? meh. I'm not going to have fun with it. The snowball grenade was awesome... and the tubers at least got us a tribble... but this thing?
Can't really use it. Is the reward for this mission just a temporary placeholder?
I thought the varied approach were a great gameplay choice, something that has been definitely lacking in this game.
I also LOVED how your level in diplomacy effected how you could respond in certain situations, that was a really nice touch.
Honestly I would of felt like VO work would of be kinda wrong. Deforrest Kelly is dead and any stand in would have more then likely be really disconcerting. I though the writing was very Bones though without going over the top, I literally heard his voice in my head when I read it.
That may be partly due to growing up on JRPGS though so VO I can do without.
How would you expect them to do Voiceover for McCoy?
The actor is dead, you want them to use the guy from the JJ Abrams movie or what?
Then the TOS interriour would not have fit because it is no iPhone blinky blinky stuff there and no Budweiser brewery either.
For the reward.... uuuh... yeah i currently have 2 front and 2 aft of them on my Excelsior, those things come with TOS Constitution class ....i am pretty sure most of the playerbase has bought that thing from the C-Store anyway.
Whaaaaaaaaaat? I loved it. It didn't need voice-over. If anything, it would have been cool if they freaked out about the uniform i was wearing.... apart from that, it was a good episode.
Were you aware before you started this thread, though? Honestly?
If so, then why do you think that McCoy, in particular, needed voice over. In STO you do team up with other well-known characters in other missions, but they don't have voice acting. And alot of those actors are still alive.
Im pretty sure the reason they didn't use a still living TOS actor was because this way they didn't have to pay a large fee that the still living cast would of probably asked for.
I think the NPC phasers should be toned down, they hit harder then the normal phasers that players use.
And im pretty sure that this was intentional, think of it as a way to encourage you to try and not mess with the timeline by killing a bunch of TOS red shirts.
Although admittedly I left a few corpses in my wake.

One of the best RPG missions in the game: catering to classes and FDC level and people still find it a let down.
Aside from the Devidians, I didn't need to fire a single shot.
I thought it was one of the best missions to date.
As I said in another thread, it was a solid episode, but the intensity and atmosphere of creeping around a derelict station would be hard to top. This one lacked the edge-of-the-seat feel of "What Lies Beneath".
The action junkies -- and I admit to being one at times -- are understandably disappointed.

I completed this mission with only a single fight (the Devidians toward the end). That's it.
An action junkie might be disappointed but the kid who loved playing Fallout & Baldur's Gate was ecstatic at the options.

You told your guys on the start of the mission to put weapons on stun!

HERE! :P
This mission still had challenging fights if you went looking for them as well. I played on advanced and I think it was 3-4 hits with the TOS phaser wielding security teams before I was killed.
I did take two groups of them out with some creative Boff usage and the triolic pattern enhancer. I actually enjoyed it more then the last episode, especially since I can take it a different route with all of my alts.

Split beam polaron on stun...i mean i guess its possible, although its not really the Jem Hedar's style in their weaponry.
I don't see why people think everything has to have voice overs.
Because it's much easier to catch the feel of a character with a voice over than text. Especially as the dialogue was written in a way different than how the bones we know and love would have delivered em.
Voice overs also suck you in much easier, and can add a sense of urgency to the scene.
In bones' case his dialogue was not written properly (Imo obviously). And for the urgency we were supposed to feel compared to last week. It just falls flat.
It's why Mass Effect is so good, and why the text rpg is falling out of favor. The dialogue seals the deal when done properly, and it's infinitely better than any quality of text.
I mean really, would last weeks episode have worked -at all- if "Bonnie-kins" had it appeared as dialogue?
No. It would have clashed with the atmosphere. Severely. I found my non voiced boffs paranoia actually Comical. Especially given the facial animations in this game. (which was the only down side of last week. was the boff reactions)
Sound registers in the brain on a much more intimate level. It plugs straight in. Text always leaves you with a layer of insulation against the environment you are taking part of in a game.
Well you are going to have to accept that voiceovers will be rare and a treat, not a regular occurance.
I for one would not like constant voiceovers. They are usually of uneven quality in ANY game (including Mass Effect 2) and if overused simply ruin things.
Nevermind the cost of using them too much in a game (both a monetary cost for the actor fees and the "client size" budget to keep the download from being bloated)
You're asking for too much, sorry.
And please don't bring up SWTOR. Look up the development costs and the required subscriber base for it to succeed and you'll see why full voice-overs is a fool's errand.

Not on a once a week occurrence it isn't.
I'm not asking for a full voice over in an mmo. (SWTOR is interesting to me but it's not a requirement) What I am asking though is for once a week missions which are supposed to be you know Special, to be handled as if they were, on a more consistent basis.

Thats a moot point, considering Zachery Quinto was cast as an EMH for the tutorial, whats keeping them from enlisting Karl Urban, who did a great job playing Bones in the latest movie?
I for one enjoyed the mission. It was good fun going back in time, and the puzzles were intriguing. My only disappointment lies with the reward, but only since I've had one since launch.

This mission was special in other ways: like the roleplaying options.
Another thing i noticed is in K'mens dialog when you report the missions end, he says the words "play our", in one paragraph but the way that paragraph is written, he should be saying pay off.

Old recycled item... *meh* out of ideas allready?
they could have gotten another star and character from TOS surely?
I'm aware that he's dead.
The episode just seems like wasted potential to me.

They are not dead, they are just stunned.
[Insert "Dead Parrot^WSecurity Officer Sketch" lines here.]

Agreed. I don't know why I had to qualify the statement with "RPG" but it's definitely one of the missions that stands out because of the RPG focus.
