Everything Old is New Again reward: Useless for Escorts?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
MY Tac Alt runs a Tactical Escort loaded for bear with Anti-Proton turrets and Polaron Cannons, why oh why did it have to be a standard Beam Array?

Would it have been that hard to make an alternate version that was a Dual Beam Bank? Or a sort of pulsed Phaser Cannon? (looks like and has the thin blue beams with pulses of energy, damage and firing arc like Cannons)?

Oh, mission itself was FREAKING AWESOME, I had myself a little "SQUEE" moment when <SPOILER ALERT> I accidentally-on-purpose ended up fighting the security team and they had tho old-style hand phasers complete with beam appearance, sparks, and sound affect!!

O.O <drool..>

I have an escort that uses a phaser in front and rear and beam overload. Its usefulness really depends on your particular play style.

It's also useless for anyone with the Constitution. :(

Yeah I was scratching my head over this one too, and I use beam weapons.

The various rewards you receive are meant to be rare items that you can't get in the normal requisition stores and sometimes they are just for fun or as part of the storyline. For example in the Deferi mission you were given a crate of snow tubers as your mission reward... but those turned out to be able to breed a new type of Tribble.

So this week's TOS phaser bank is really meant to be a fun reward for having traveled back in time, and for those who enjoy the TOS it is also another way to get more of these so they can outfit their ships. (especially once Episode Replay hits and you can go back and re-run episodes to get more rewards).

    I would've preferred a hand phaser! :D

Not everyone who plays the game purchased the TOS Constitution. The phaser array is a nice addition for them. I also think the special end reward will be a Holo BO, something nice for those who don't have it from the referral system reward. Not every reward has to benefit every player. It's not as though I've gone back for refills on my cryo-grenades or spend much time using my Breen mine torpedo. :)

Uh huh, right. I have a cruiser with 8 blue phasers. How dare someone be allowed to have max of 1 beam array. :)

The benefit from the LTS purchase is the Liberated Borg captain.

Sorry dstahl but every other thing you gave us had its uses for almost any rank captain, I say almost because Lieutenant captains couldn't do the missions, but this one doesn't give us much of anything for Vice Admiral Characters. Now granted I can see the coolness of it, but at least put it on par with the Purple weapons we can get from the vendors with tokens. This one seemed to be almost a quickly thought up last minute reward.

The connie came with my game.
The phasers scale as you progress in game.
I have 6 of them on my Exploration refit and they do somethings that the phasers we have now don't do.
Tru they max out at 162 dps but they still pack a wallop they are mk X 10 1/2
they are called retrofit phaser beam array and they actually auto target split if they are aiming at multiple enemies. But unless you are using phasers its just a cool blue phaser beam.

I think part of the problem is that many of these "infinite" level items appear to be stuck at Rear Admiral Lower Half level.
I've posted about it here: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=187416

Last week's reward of the Triolic defense thing was pretty worthless in the one Devidian fight in today's episode. Both times that I had to do the final fight, due to a bug, the Devidians destroyed the Triolic defense thingy before it could actually do anything. Combined with it's exorbitantly long recharge time and it is ... well, worthless.

I have no idea why you're quoting me. The topic of my post was those who had acquired the Constitution, not those who did not.

Do you, Cosmic_One, find the phasers to be a nice addition for your own use?

    Eh.

I have the TOS connie, and fly a cannon escort.

    I am also not upset.

People who loved TOS and didn't have the connie can now get a kick out of this phaser array. Its a neat little device like many of the weekly rewards. I really don't understand why some people ingame were REALLY upset about this.

Eit: Although I do have to add that I thought that it was a nice touch-up when the TOS phaser sound was added to the connie phasers, although strange that the original TOS sound was not added to the rear version of the arrays. Now I see why ;)

I have never claimed the Connie:

Are you saying the rear phasers don't have the TOS sound the front ones do and that this week's reward will fix that by replacing the rear ones it came with?

Also, does the Connie have the TOS torpedoes?

Sounds like a neat reward, I'll have to claim my Connie now.

Liked the mission. couldn't get past one of the security teams though. The "Legend" surprised me a little. Loved the look of the station very TOS.

Now the reward... I was really excited when I saw what the reward would be as I have a new Fed Eng. that flew the Connie. I thought great I can send the one from each of my other characters to him. Alas, the reward is bound so no chance of that. :( sigh

Bug. On my Klingon the graphics on the door wouldn't open. A shadow of the door went up but the door graphics showed it closed. I could walk through it though.

Anyway as I said loved the mission looking forward to next week.

    Well no.

The way the TOS phasers work is that there are set fore and aft phasers (you cant put a fore phaser on an aft slot and vice versa). Last time i checked the rear TOS phasers did not have the proper sound effect, although they do look just like TOS phasers.

The one you get from the mission reward is a fore phaser so you can only put in on the font of your ship, im really not sure why they are locked like that.

The TOS connie has a standard torpedo launcher so no sorry. :(

Just FYI if you want to outfit your ship in the TOS phasers just strip the Connie that you claim of its phasers, decommission it, then claim another one. That way you can put however many you want on any ship.

I thought that was fairly obvious that it was a reply to your useless comment. I'll try to explain it to you again. Not everything given to us in the weekly episodes is useful to all of us. Not everyone's using the cryo-grenades. Not everyone's using the ally cryo-grenades. Not everyone's using the Breen mines. Not everyone's using the CRM. And not everyone will use the TOS phasers. Everything given in the weeklies is useless to someone. The point is to realize that you, or I, are not the only person playing the game and that what's useless to us might not be to them.

There is no information about the T5 Constitution, other then it is "on hold" at the moment. Beyond that, though, every other T5 cruiser has 8 slots so there's no reason to think the Constitution won't.

    Oh!

    That reminds me,

Use the CRM 200 in Devidian missions, it freezes them solid so you can blast them instead of spending the mission in a floating hold.
